Why do I still see some mentions of Frasier these days but nothing of Becker?
>>
>>220531966
It was extremely mediocre.
>>
>>220531966
/tv/ hasn't discovered Becker yet.
>>220532056
Your life is extremely mediocre.
>>
>>220532074
>Your life is extremely mediocre.
Yes, which is why Becker isn't interesting to most people.
>>
>>220531966
never heard of it
>>
Gee, what 2000s show about a genius cantankerous doctor that is a jerk to everyone around him including his black and women co-workers might've come along and did the exact same formula better?
>>
>>220531966
because there's some pansy on here that is obsessed with Frasier and brings it up in every thread
>>
>>220531966
Becker wasn't remotely as big. With Becker it was like "Ted Danson had a new sitcom, pretty good," and that floated it for as long as it went.
Frasier fucking exploded and threatened to eclipse Cheers, which it sorta has.
>>
>>220531966
It just wasn't that interesting and didn't really standout among the many sitcoms that were on at the time. People already had Frasier, Seinfeld, Friends, The Drew Carey Show etc and Becker just wasn't interesting enough to capture those audiences.
>>
>>220532135
Becker isn't a genius and always does the right thing in the end.
>>
>>220532137
I think Becker was always intended to be a low-key project for people who enjoy a dryer type of humor. Becker is a show you just watch randomly every once in a while in life, like you catch it on flipping the channels (yes, people still do this) and watch one episode while at your grandma's house or whatever.
>>
>>220531966
Frasier is incredibly likeable and has a sense of innocence about him
>>
>>220532308
Pretty good summary actually, it's one of those shows which is good enough to stop channel surfing for but not good enough to actually seek out on purpose.
>>
>>220532308
Becker was the place to park the big star who already had his tv gold plus a film career. Almost like The New Adventures of Old Christine. Not designed to launch anybody.

Frasier was handing the keys off to the character actor who had carved a small niche in the public's mind because you think there's something there. More like Laverne and Shirley.
>>
>>220532308
Frasier used to be described as this. 20 years ago you only had the die hards who watched every episode. In UK it was the show you watched after Friends and didnt pay attention to
>>
>>220532421
Not quite how I remember it, but maybe it varies by country being that you mentioned the UK. I remember enjoying Seinfeld and Frasier but having no interest in Friends, that was the "show after the shows you cared about" show to me but everyone else seemed to love it. Frasier was still massively popular for its time though, whereas I don't think Becker was even a blip on the radar for most people. Seinfeld is probably the only show were people kept interest in the final seasons though, Frasier seemed to be waning after Niles and Daphne got married and The Drew Carey Show vanished from conversation around the 4th or 5th season.
>>
>>220531966
I almost bought a complete Becker DVD box set this week.
>>
>>220532460
yeah Friends was much more popular in UK but Frasier still had a following. Its got alot more popular since.
>>
>>220532421
Frasier was one of the most popular and critically acclaimed shows ever. Fucking idiot.
>>
>>220531966
any fan is gonna prefer Cheers over Becker and really Cheers over Frasier
>>
>>220532509
I like Frasier and still watch it. Calm down. Just telling you the case of 20 years ago in my shithole country. tv award shows really do not matter over here

>Frasier used to be described as this
Kek no it wasn't, it even managed to eclipse Cheers in popularity. It was even constantly parodied and referenced in various other shows because of how popular it was, even the character of fucking Sideshow Bob is just a giant Frasier reference.
>>
>>220531966
Why does no body mention this either?
>>
>>220532471
How much?
>>
>>220532587
Probably too typical of the time. The only reason people remember it is because David Spade got pretty big later on.
>>
>>220531966
boring.
>>
>>220532421
>20 years ago you only had the die hards who watched every episode.
Not true at all. Frasier did big ratings.
>>
>>220532587
It has threads here and there on /tv/, mostly because of Maya.
But it's actually pretty good. As comfy as Frasier in its own way.
>>
>>220531966
The show was hard carried by Ted Danson, every other person did such an amateur job it dragged the whole thing down.

I forget who this guy even is but I've been annoyed by him in everything I've ever seen him in, and this show was no different. The black guy also had no presence, though I'd say that applies to basically the entire cast except for Danson (himself seeming disinterested in the show).
>>
Shawnee Smith was peak in this.
>>
I wrote a Frasier/Becker cross-over episode which is a parody of Rashomon.
>>
>>220532587
laura san giacomo milkers
>>
>>220531966
It is simply not that great a series. It has its moments, but it's overall quite mediocre and its "people are stupid and everything sucks i am very smart" tone is sometimes a bit heavy-handed
>>
>>220531966
This was just boring as hell and one of those shows that just seemd to play at midday. It's the quintessential "you're in a waiting room with nothing else to look at" show (or it was before smartphones took over).
>>
>>220534714
it has a strong "sunday evening and not looking forward to work tomorrow" energy
>>
>>220534730
I hate that feeling so goddamn much it's unreal. Some days I wake up and for just a few seconds I'm happy and content since I haven't yet remembered I have to go to work or even what my life situation is.
>>
>>220532137
Frasier has absolutely eclipsed Cheers for anyone under 50, and even in its time managed to court a different audience altogether.
>>
>>220531966
Too many black guys
>>
Anyone got that screencapped story about the anon that accidentally turned his cousin into Frasier?
>>
>>220531966
For me, it's when Butters bitched about it on an episode of South Park.
>>
>>220534958
Seems like the kind of show a person like Butters would watch lel
>>
>>220534766
and blind guys
>>
>>220532137
People still remember Cheers here?
>>
>>220535628
Cheers is usually mentioned when Frasier is, but it's rarely mentioned on its own.
>>
Can anyone even remember a single scene from Becker?
>>
>>220535856
I honestly couldn't quote a single line of dialogue.
>>
>>220532908
that's mocha joe
>>
>>220532908
Bob was funny because he was an over-the-top caricature of a greaseball, and bounced off well of the rest of the cast
I actually found the white assistant girl annoying, she was somehow constantly doing shit like stealing from the clinic's cash register or using information from patient files for her advantage, but instead of giving her shit for it Becker and the black lady would just roll their eyes in mild annoyance
>>
>>220535980
the black lady couldn't tell a joke well - they rarely landed. same with both ladies who ran the diner
>>
>>220531966
At least Becker won't ever suffer from a brief continuation.
>>
>>220535856
Linda almost /ss/ing that ten year-old.
>>
>>220535856
Several - it's on the TV every evening here

>>
>>220531966
having seen quite a bit of becker: very bitter and grey show, as if the characters are stuck in a bland and barely shaped purgatory.
Also, every second of love-interest plot feels totally hollow. The show impresses again and again how much of a sour raincloud John can be, to the point where any romance plot feels, and is, completely artificial.
Ted carries the show.
>>
>>220532587
ew, why do they look like that?
