Buffy is a stupid show with lazy metaphors
Buffy pantomining staking a vampire.
>>220538914what?
>>220538937She did an homage to her vampire slaying days in the movie Ready or Not 2.
>>220538914
>>220539006I suppose but I didn't make this thread to talk about Ready Or Not 2.
>>220538850They fit perfectly with the bland and stupid nothing character that was buffy herself. Angel was better because the dialogue and thought process didn't to be filtered through a barely literate teenage girl's mind.
>>220539036>Angel was better because the dialogue and thought process didn't to be filtered through a barely literate teenage girl's mind.I think this is a good way to summarise the tone of the show. I also think the SMG is a pretty wooden actress, at least as far as Buffy goes, which makes the show seems a little more ambiguous in tone on top of that.
>episode about drug addiction>antagonists name is Rackcould it be any more on the nose?
>>220539036shit take all around, Buffy was a great character and SMG could act rings around David Boreanaz, whose "muh redemption" storyline was done better on Xena: Warrior Princess. Buffy having to balance teen life and growing up with having to slay evil, and will probably die before she turns 25, it's pure kinoAngel might have had more mature storytelling and character relationships but certainly wasn't any more clever and definitely wasn't as entertaining. Angel Season 5 is a masterpiece and on par with the best seasons of Buffy, but aside from that Buffy mogs hard
>>220539200>Buffy was a great character and SMG could act rings around David BoreanazThat's an exaggeration if I ever heard one. At least Boreanaz has the excuse of playing a frigid vampire, what's SMG's excuse for being so inexpressive?
>>220539288She has plenty of expressions. Calling her wooden is just straight up lying or being retarded. Her acting in episodes like "The Body" and "The Gift" shows she is great and drama and countless episodes show how funny she can be.
>>220539327>Le Buffy faces at you ambiguously
>>220539327cont >>220539353face it, she's carried completely by her supporting cast
>>220539353Is she gonna stab me?
>>220539388hard to tell without any emotion
>>220539353oh wow a promo pic and some greentext I'm convinced
>>220539425>there is an idea of a Sarah Michelle Gellar, some kind of abstraction, but there is no real me, only an entity, something illusory, and though I can hide my cold gaze and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable: I simply am not there. It is hard for me to make sense on any given level. Myself is fabricated, an aberration. I am a noncontingent human being. My personality is sketchy and unformed, my heartlessness goes deep and is persistent. My conscience, my pity, my hopes disappeared a long time ago (probably at Harvard) if they ever did exist. There are no more barriers to cross. All I have in common with the uncontrollable and the insane, the vicious and the evil, all the mayhem I have caused and my utter indifference toward it, I have now surpassed. I still, though, hold on to one single bleak truth: no one is safe, nothing is redeemed. Yet I am blameless. Each model of human behavior must be assumed to have some validity. Is evil something you are? Or is it something you do? My pain is constant and sharp and I do not hope for a better world for anyone. In fact, I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to escape. But even after admitting this—and I have countless times, in just about every act I’ve committed—and coming face-to-face with these truths, there is no catharsis. I gain no deeper knowledge about myself, no new understanding can be extracted from my telling. There has been no reason for me to tell you any of this. This confession has meant nothing….
>>220539503see even Xander has no idea what she's trying to express in this scene
literally nothing going on behind those eyes
so much expression!
>>220539537>>220539628She didn't even want to be on the show at this point.
i checked out early on in the college episodes. was following along with a guide, didn't get too far into Angel either (although i liked the idea).does it get good again? ;_;
>>220539746SMG doesn't even act, she just looks at you like a she's your disappointed parent unless it's one of the random episodes where she's acting flirtatious.
>>220539787The main arc and villain are so much better in season 5, if that's the reason you quit on season 4. But I wouldn't recommend going past season 5 unless you really love itAs for Angel, the final season is a must watch, you don't even need to see the first four seasons to enjoy it, since it's basically a soft reboot of the entire show
>>220539787Picks up again in season 5 and has arguably the second best villain of the entire series. Goes downhill again in season 6 and hits the floor in 7. There's some truly great episodes mixed in but it's mostly not good.Angel ranges from eh to fantastic. Season 5 is pretty consistently good and even the rushed ending completely mogs anything from seasons 4-7 of Buffy.
>>220539787Not unless you're a child or plan to show it to a child. This is the equivalent for a man-child show the likes of Dragon Ball Z except it's directed at women.
>Witchcraft is a metaphor for lesbianism>Now it's a metaphor for drugsWhat did Whedon mean by this?
>>220539200you had me up until the angel season 5 remark. shit season all around, it's not even Angel anymore.
>>220540132you mean what did Marni Nixon think of thisJoss was too busy making Firefly and basically just rubber stamped the last two seasons
>>220540183I like how it has the least amount of Cordelia aka the worst character in the show. Instead we get Spike who is 1000 times more entertainingSeason 5 is definitely the best
>>220540190*Marti Noxon
>>220540231Spike was boring and useless in season 7 of Buffy and he came to be boring and useless on Angel. It's funny how people hate season 4 of Buffy but love season 5 of Angel when they're essentially the same season:-Spike replaces Cordelia as the comic relief. -A Dream episode (Restless, Soul Purpose),-A gimmicky episode that everyone loves (Hush, Smile Time),-An episode where one character unknowingly makes the others act out of character ( Something blue,Life of the Party)-A hated character with a biblical name (Adam, Eve),-A Serious 2 parter in the middle of the season, one of them written-directed by Whedon (Faith Episodes, Fred's death episodes),-A Character that went into a coma the previous season wakes up.- a soft reboot for the show, a change of locations and sets.- A 'one off' vibe to the episodes, very loose overarching arcyet season B4 bad, A5 good, makes no sense.
>>220540365but I love both season 4 of Buffy and Season 5 of Angel, they're both hilarious seasons with a strong focus on comedy. Adam and The Initiative may not be great stories but they didn't detract enough from it for me not to love that season. Pangs, A New Man, Superstar, the Faith bodyswap episode, it's kinoOf course the best seasons of Buffy will always be 2 and 3
>>220540430>the best seasons of Buffy will always be 2 and 3I'd say the second half of season 2 does a lot of the heavy lifting, the first half is basically more of season 1 style.
>>220540430I love B4 too, but i hate A5 because it felt like the show just got swamped with Buffy writers and execs after the show ended, and they basically tried to turn Angel into Buffy which i thought was a mistake. The show didn't need a soft reboot, them going to W&H made no sense and it should never have happened.
>>220540505The season 4 finale episode where they visit the W&H offices and undead Lilah as their guide is actually my favorite episode of Angel
S6 Buffy is so hot. The way she turned into such a slut for Spike fueled many teenage wank sessions.
>>220540539If they had kept Lilah instead of Eve maybe that would have made A5 more tolerable. But literally up until Fred's death episode, you'd think the show had no previous 4 seasons. The characters act like they don't even have history with each other.
>>220540587If I'm not mistaken season 5 had a lower budget and Stephanie Romanov asked for too much money, same reason Alexa Davalos didn't return as Gwen Raiden, she got a better offer from David Twohy and Vin Deisel. They wanted Gwen as a main character for season 5, imagine that plus Lilah as the liason, yes it would have been even more kino. Still love it anyway
>>220540539I don't really get why. Every single character is acting OOC just to move the plot along. Why would they ever agree to Lilah's offer? It would have made more sense if Lilah offered HIM the deal about Connor and he was forced to take W&H because of it. also would have made his insistence to stay there in season 5 more understandable and cause more realistic friction with his team.
Angel was a perfect show when it was about the team solving cases week by week and managing to keep Angel Investigations afloat somehow. It really showed them the best using their own skills to defeat the motw. Once they moved into prophecies and stuff, it lost the plot and was just another generic show. The soul of the show was helping the little ones, not helping the world. That was Buffy's job.
>>220540587They're acting out of character in character. Working at Wolfram & Hart is making them lose themselves. If they got to make another two seasons we'd have looked at A5 as 'that time they were almost all corrupted by WR&H'.
>>220538850only the first 3 seasons are kino
>>220540467That's what makes Season 2 the best season, you have the campy fun monster of the week episodes to set the mood, and then it hits you with this incredibly personal heroine/villain relationship between Buffy and Angel. None of the other seasons were able to match the personal stakes that existed in season 2. Also season 2 is the last season of Buffy that was filmed on 16mm cameras, giving it that dark, gritty look that really adds a lot to the atmosphere. The show became much brighter and sunnier in season 3, which I'm not a fan of personally. Oh, and season 2 is the last season where Buffy wore cute miniskirts and going braless sometimes before she started dressing like a middle aged lady in S3
>>220539463I never liked her as a kid, but now I see that she would have made a great Harley Quinn.I feel like I lost something great.
>>220539463
>>220538937>>220539033The hot webm from hush episode.
>>220539503This demands to be isolated to just buffy!
>>220540883>Oh, and season 2 is the last season where Buffy wore cute miniskirts and going braless sometimes before she started dressing like a middle aged lady in S3Good times, good times. I remember when at season 6, allegedly "the sex season", she was always dressed like a old lady. I was like wtf is going on here.
>>220539036So I recently started watching shows with vampire detectives of which there are MANY. And they all seem to be on TubjJust finished Moonlight which was great. Whoever plays Beth is a cutie. Now I'm starting Blood Ties and eventually Angel and then Forever Knight is also on Tubi. What's the best vampire crime detective show out of the bunch?
