Am I fucking brainlet?

What am I supposed to understand after watching neon genesis evangelion?

I liked the movie ending more than the series but what am I supposed to be thinking right now ?

You are a brainlet. Anno literally spells out the message on several occasions. You need to accept pain as a part of the process to find happiness. Eventually, you need to realize that the process itself is part of the happiness you’re seeking.
>>
>>220545966
You're a fucking moron on both counts.

Go outside and talk to girls, that is literally, unironically, the message of the movie. But fans spent 30 years refusing to hear it

Surface level psychology and some random religious symbolisms that means nothing, and it was used only because it looks exotic to the Japanese
I am sure if I was 12 I would find it deep

nothing there is no message the plot was literally made up on the spot and like many animes the plot only exists as an excuse for the guy to draw weird shit

The takeaway is Shinji is the villain

He prevented humanity from living forever in a blissful single super-consciousness
>>
>>220545966
Do you mean about the actual plot or the themes? The literal plot is absurdly and confusingly underexplained in terms of how what's going on with the angels and instrumentality and stuff, although it is explained enough to understand its essential meaning to the story, but the thematic and psychological stuff is fully accessible. If you had to guess, what do you feel are the themes of evangelion? What do you think it is trying to say? Its definitely trying to say things, this isn't a trick question, and even if what you say doesn't match with what was intended it can still be meaningful that you had a different view.

The message is clear. Asuka>Rei. Idk how some people don’t get this.

If people don't understand NGE after watching it all, rebuild included, I often recommend watching gurren lagann. Its the counter to NGE. Once you finish it, you will understand NGE better imo.

Also Asuka is best girl.
>>
>>220547093
>Surface level psychology
go on then, midwit, which psychologist's work is the basis for NGE.
>>
It's supposed to be depressing. That's why when Anno wasn't depressed he tried to make it a hopeful action mecha with a good ending where he self inserts his wife as Shinji's savior

I love how you can feel his seething that he needed to further explain it in EoE and bash people over the head with "if you don't live your life you end up alone with a lifeless waifu and surrounded by humanity you have no way to interact with"
>>
>>220549438
Pedantically I don't think she is his savior at all. What she really is is not-Rei and not-Asuka, time to move on.

What he tried to do in that installment is quite remarkable really, and I don't care if it disappointed some people. Nobody has tried to destroy "the legend" that hard since John Lennon. Of course it doesn't work, but it was noble to try.

The larger message behind evangelion is centered around the Hedgehog's dilemma. Namely, to love is to be vulnerable and the closer you become to someone, the more you hurt them. This is reflected in the ego such that your own wants and desires come at conflict with other people's.
Shinji's major problem in the series is that he's so afraid of getting hurt that he struggles to build meaningful relationships
This is in shown more literally through the Angels, who are able to manifest their egos as physical barriers.
The Human Instrumentality Project is the ultimate conclusion of this, in which involves the cabal Seele using the Evas to collectively destroy everyone's egos to destroy everyone's concepts of self to such a degree that their bodies physically collapse on themselves to form a hive mind. Shinji, as the pilot of Eva01, gets turned into the headpiece of this all.
Ideally, Shinji as a person is so afraid of being hurt would almost embrace a world like that, but effectively realizes that without the suffering that comes with love, love isn't special and that pain is a natural part of growth and ultimately rejects human Instrumentality. He ends up being the first of many people would would eventually arise back out of the liquid.

So basically, your biggest take away should be that love and growth are both worth suffering for, for man is both the sculptor and the marble.

>The first type is the ruling type. These people are characterized early on by a tendency to be generally aggressive and dominant over others, possessing an intense energy that overwhelms anything or anybody who gets in their way. These people are not always bullies or sadists, however; some turn the energy inward and harm themselves, such as is the case with alcoholics, drug addicts, and those who commit suicide.

>The second type is the leaning type. Individuals of this type are sensitive, and while they may put a shell up around themselves to protect themselves, they end up relying on others to carry them through life’s challenges. They lack energy, in essence, and depend on the energy of others. They are also prone to phobias, anxieties, obsessions and compulsions, general anxiety, dissociation, etc.

>The third type is the avoiding type. People of this type have such low energy they recoil within themselves to conserve it, avoiding life as a whole, and other people in particular. In extreme cases, these people develop psychosis—the end result of entirely retreating into one’s self.

>Adler also believed in a fourth type: the socially useful type. People of this type are basically healthy individuals, possessed of adequate, but not overbearing, social interest and energy. They are able to give to others effectively as they are not so consumed by a sense of inferiority that they cannot look properly outside of themselves.

Kind of obvious really. I like that Shinji is so avoidant, as Misato says, he can't even run away properly. Anno himself received Adlerian psychotherapy which is more popular in Japan than the west (see also pic related which is basically the last two episodes for normies).
>>
Evangelion is dog shit. It ain't deep. It's mecha anime for emos. Just put on mcr or LinkedIn park. Normies always hyperinflate shit media but fuck me do anime cucks do it worse sometimes yet sit there pondering like they just had a discussion with plato.
>>
>>220545966
My only problem is that Anno assumes there's only one way to enjoy life (by being a normalfag). What if someone is okay with living a minimal life, being alone and just consuming escapist media all they want? What if they know it's not necessarily "good" for them but they're still happy enough anyway? Or for that matter, balancing a normal life while still enjoying tons of escapist waifushit media at the same time, because that's just what you're into? He never exactly factored any of this shit into the equation, did he?

It's a creative interpretation of the last global cataclysm which reset the planet and changed us from an advanced society that built pyramids to hunter gatherers. This cataclysm was facilitated by the impact of multiple gigantic organisms which fell from space (this event is the basis of most myths, religions and esoteric teachings throughout the world). This is why it is held in such high regard because it speaks to a severe trauma which persists in the collective unconscious.
>>
>>220545966
Eva is basically a metaphor for World War II from a Japanese perspective; in other words, you (shinji) are immature, and the adults are also flawed and untrustworthy.
You cannot stop something greater than yourself. You cannot fully understand something greater than yourself. You actually feel the world is ending. It's basically just a vibe anyway.
It may be immature overall, but the sense that the world is truly coming to an end has been the biggest source of artistic inspiration for the Japanese, and since that feeling itself is authentic, that is their strength.

I love how you can feel his chinky greediness that he needed to make the rebuilds to increase merchandise sellings
