surprised that hasn't been a thing yet. with technology, it seems food places have slowly been having people do more and more stuff that workers used to do for you.
I suspect one day there will be a restaurant where you pay a subscription and this allows you to go into their kitchen and make your own meal with whatever ingredients are back there and access to all the equipment.

Customers are haunted by the vastness of the menu. And so we ask ourselves: will our dollars echo across the final bill? Will strangers see our plates long after we are gone, and wonder who we were, how bravely we ate, how fiercely we chewed?

Genuinely?
Marco Pierre White.
Sure there were shitheads in kitchens long before him, as any other profession - however they were tempered by the virtue of success not being illogically tied to being an overbearing cunt.
MPW won awards and acclaim from a fucking tyre company and their sycophants desperate for drama inextricably linked his personal capabilities with his abrasive attitude and demeanor.

I am a pastry chef, I have worked in restaurants, hotels and cruise ships for over 15 years. I have never met a single chef that did not think they new more about baking than I did. All of them insist they know more about cutting meat than any butcher. Every single one of the hundreds I have known cope with their shitty hours and work tempo with drugs and alcohol and most cannot live without one or both before they finish their apprenticeships and their entire personalities revolve around the meme of being a 'vet'.

I have known a few cunty pastry chefs, by and large though, working with the same people at odd hours and having to cooperate necessitates a certain level of decorum that is just absent in chef run kitchens. Most of them have no fucking idea WHERE their bullshit even comes from and just assume acting like a cunt is mandated by the industry.

This is aside of all the cooks and hands that are ex felons and dead beats.
