Why does everyone pretend Bloodsport is Van Damme's big movie when he has an actual kino like Hard Target in his filmography?
>>
The detractors say Hard Target is more a gun film than a martial arts film. That makes it an impure entry in the Van Damme catalog.
>>
Bloodsport is still good and the second best Mortal Kombat movie, but Hard Target is peak.
>>
>>220549321
they are both excellent so I don't really get upset over somebody picking one over another
>>
Anyone ever watch the workprint of this?
>>
>>220549656
No, is there some significance to it?
>>
>>220549687
It's about 20 minutes longer and is supposed to be much more violent and closer to Woo's vision
>>
Lance Henriksen has a man on fire scene, awesome movie.

yeah im pretty sure ive seen it. there an extra bit of scene when they're hunting the girls father in the beginning where he grabs a barrel and does some roll throw with it. at the end fight he shoots people a lot more times and lance henriksen talks some shit to beaudreaux for awhile. thats all i remember.
>>220549801
lance henriksen is so super cool
>>
Lionheart with the pool fight is a beast of a scene.
>>
>>220549321
Bloodsport was Van Damme's first decent movie. His big break. Hard Target is a bigger movie in terms of production value, that's all. The fact that it's directed by John Woo helped a lot too since the action scenes are legit classics.
>>
>>220549321
I enjoy TIMECOP. Does that mean I'm retarded?
>>
>>220549321
No one is pretending anything, you silly faggot. Bloodsport is objectively superior to Hard Target. Bloodsport inspired an entire genre of video games.
>>
>>220549542
>and the second best Mortal Kombat movie
What
>>
>>220549938
Some movies are just dumb fun. It doesn't have to be an Orson Welles film every time.
>>
>>220549943
The gas can scene easily clears Bloodsport.
>>
>>220549994
Nah, you are just a chink faggot glazing Hard Target because it was directed by the incredibly overrated John Woo.
>>
>>220549938
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you truly enjoy Timecop, then yes, you are educationally subnormal. Fuck, man, it's probably his worst film. Painfully boring. Not a single good action scene, and it's too bland to be funny. Okay Street Fighter is worse, but Timecop is a close second.

The underrated VD film is Death Warrant. A great little exploitation film, with a novel approach to the old prison rape trope.
>>
>>220550081
What did you think of Universal Soldier?
>>
>>220549321
John Woo movies are insanely overrated. Maybe they were impressive at the time but now they are so cheesy they induce laughter from viewers. The gun battles are schlocky garbage and the imagery such as the doves flying are just so cringe.
>>
>>220550265
Thats why you watch action movies, they're funny.
>>
For me, it's Double Impact
>>
>>220550081
Nothing wrong with Street Fighter.
>>
For me it's Cyborg
>>
>>220550441
>Double Van Dammage
a solid choice
>>
>>220550441
This, Universal Soldier and Hard Target I rate much higher than Bloodsport. I guess it's partly because Universal Soldier had Dolph Lundgren and Hard Target had Lance Henriksen and Arnold Vosloo whose performances just elevated those movies.

>>
>>220549970
Well, tje 1995 Mortal Kombat is still the best one.
>>
>>220549321
Bloodsport is my favorite Van Damme joint and Hard Target is number 2
>>
>>220550895
The first universal soldier has always seemed kinda mediocre to me. I enjoy the 2 DTV sequels way more
>>
>>220549321
Hard Target is gay. The title is just so homoerotic. There is nothing gay about Blood Sport. Nope. Not a thing.
>>
>>220549938
The thing that sucks about Timecop is that most of the movie takes place in a shitty warehouse and then the final fight is in a boring regular house. They don't do enough fun stuff with the time travel stuff.
>>
>>220551330
I don't think Timecop even follows its own rules for time travel. It's a tricky thing to do for even the best movies, but this one is REALLY dodgy when you stop to think about it.

Hard Target is the only good Van Damme movie
Under Siege is the only good Seagal movie

Martial arts are a meme

>>220550210
Universal Soldier is a good film for kids, and I think that's what it was always supposed to be. I don't enjoy it as an adult, but it entertained me in my boyhood.

greatest line and delivery in any movie ever
>>
>>220551330
Yeah timecop needed more time travel shit in it
>>
>>220551370
The first 4 seagal movies are way better than under siege
>>
>>220551373
UniSol is most definitely not a movie for kids. Mostly because of Dolph's character (after he regains his memory). It's a hard R.
>>
>>220551370
I don't like it when people file Van Damme and Seagal in the same drawer. Van Damme is a harmless fool, whereas Seagal is a contemptible fucking arsehole. I hate Seagal.

>>
>>220551393
like it would have been easy, Hollywood always has a surplus of period costumes and sets kicking around. They could have had Van Damme beating up goons in the Old West, Ancient Rome or Greece, 18th Century Europe, WW2, Medieval times, like basically anywhere Bill and Ted went. What did they blow the budget on the scene of him sadly driving around in his depressingly ugly future car?
>>
>>220551533
The movie did 100 mil at the box office, so there's no reason we shouldn't have had a sequel with that stuff in it
>>
>>220551312
>There is nothing gay about Blood Sport.

Is that not the one where he does the splits naked, and we're treated to a lingering shot of his parted buttocks? If so, pretty gay.
>>
>>220551533
i'd pay to see that
>>
>>220549321
What's that one post apocalyptic movie where he's escorting an android or something, and the bad guy is about a thousand times cooler than Van Damme? I liked that one.

For me it's Desert Heat.
It's like the spiritual epitaph of the 90s action movie, on cocaine.
Van Damme's ultimate direct to video ego trip and farewell to the 90s
>>
I recently watched a bunch of his movies.

Hard Target was amazing because the directing made it continuously cheesy and the final action set piece was top notch. Also great villain(s).

Death Warrant was decent but more could've been done with the prison setting.

Legionnaire had everyone act circles around van Damme but he made it work. Still felt like more could've been done with the concept. Maybe better set piece battles. Felt like a pilot for a tv show more than anything else.

Timecop somehow works despite having many underused concepts and van Damme lacks a proper muscle bad guy to fight. The politician villain though is pretty good. It's like he walked onto the set out of some Arnie movie. Excellent piece of shit vibes from him throughout.

Kickboxer was okay for a low budget martial arts movie, but it's a bit thin on the plot. Not enough fighting and too much goofin off
>>
>>220551868
i like that one and the one where hes an escaped convict who has sex with roseanna arquette
>>
>>220551868
This one was pretty good
>>
>>220551964
>Death Warrant was decent but more could've been done with the prison setting.
This one is such a missed opportunity. It was right in the middle of his peak era, but it's kind of a nothing movie
>>
>>220552005
Movie should've started with him already in prison and the backstory that he's undercover revealed a bit later in.
Also that maniac killer dude that shows up at the end should've been there all along so they have low-level brawling the entire time before the final fight.
Maybe both of them were in some same gang together, but the maniac didn't know van Damme is undercover (and doesn't during the movie) until the very end.
The plot about harvesting organs was kinda whatever. Should've been some rival bank robbery gangs drama.
>>
>>220550895
>I guess it's partly because Universal Soldier had Dolph Lundgren and Hard Target had Lance Henriksen and Arnold Vosloo whose performances just elevated those movies.

That's just the thing. Van Damme is a bit goofy with his acting so he plays a good naive everyman that gets caught up in a plot.
What they should've done is just paired him up with a different hammy villain every movie, who then satisfies the scenery chewing requirements.
>>
>>220551965
He basically...
Rolls into town
Fucks the only two hot chicks in town
The local old gossip granny from the general store watches him gangbang them through the motel window while getting smashed on wild turkey
His Indian friend is killed so he murders 3/4 of the towns local hooligans in revenge
Mr Miyagi comically burries the never ending stream of bodies
Then he rides off into the sunset, no one in law enforcement notices three quarters of a town being killed
>>
>>220551370
Exit wounds is a funny and entertaining movie
>>
Wait, wait, hold on no mention of Time Cop in here? It's easily his best movie, and 10x better than Bloodsport and Hard Target combined.
He punches zero snakes.
>>
>>220552270
>a movie about time travel police
>best thing they came up with is some politician embezzling money to get elected
>not even to eliminate political opponents or to reshape the political situation in the country or the world
>nope, he just needs election funds so he can buy more ads
>>
>>220549321
Bloodsport >Kickboxer >Death Warrant > Nowhere to Run >Lionheart > The Quest >Hard Target >Sudden Death >Cyborg >Timecop > Double Impact > Universal Soldier > Double Team

in that order
>>
>>220552487
The opinion of someone so stupid as to post movies in order and then clarify "in that order" (Did you not know that the ">" symbol means "greater than"?) has no merit.
>>

Pretty crazy how Hard Target was the first ever major Hollywood movie directed by an Asian, and it was already the 90s.
>>
>>220553448
why aren't movies like this anymore?
>>
>>220553448
I was thinking about this scene the other day when I was walking home from the supermarket with 4 bags of heavy shopping. I just zoned out and placed myself into this very scene and imagined getting man-handled by Corinna Everson as she searched me. Once she finished groping me, she then asks me to ''search her''. I got a massive hard-on thinking about it. I usually don't find body-building women attractive, but Everson (in this film) gets my blood flowing.

Indeed. Henriksen has a great gimmick and a great death and Vosloo is one of the GOAT henchmen.

Saw this for the first time a few months ago and I had almost forgot how you could just casually say "faggot" in movies back then lmao
