Are Dune's "Ornithopter" possible with our real world physics?
>>220556060>OUR real world physicsspeak for yourself
>>220556060I found the technology in Dune very retarded, is like a mix of literal magic with steampunk with high-end sci-fi, is very nonsensical
>>220556060no material on earth would stand that kind of motion without breaking (while still remaining rigid)
>>220556060Yes, cause they use advanced technology. Don't worry about it.
They run on scallops lol
>>220556060Not with any metallurgy we have access to.
>>220556094Kek
No, it's completely retarded and not an efficient way of flight
>>220556060zoomies are insufferable.
>>220556371you are insufferable.
>>220556060yes. da vinci knew this.
>>220556110It's just in the background. Just think of most of it as being possible from the special materials they have access to.
Why did the harvesters have a foot patrol of niggas? Why didn't the harvesters and/or their convoy have shields? What's even the point of the shields if they quite literally serve no purpose in the film(s)? I don't understand this gay shit.
>>220556432something about the shields attracting worms more or watever prolly
>>220556432Shields send the worms into a frenzy
>>220556439>>220556452The harvesters attract the worms anyway, so what's the difference?
>>220556486You want a hungry worm or a crazy hungry worm? Bear in mind that they can be 500m long.
>>220556060No.
>>220556060Why didn't they just use f-35s?
>>220556499They leave before the worms get there anyway, that's why they have the grasshoppers scouting them lmao.I don't give a fuck if a bear in the woods 2,000km from me is hungry AND has rabies or not.
>>220556531A.
>>220556531I still can't work out which is right.A seems correct, because the cube has no momentum, it's just appearing at the same speed as the orange portal is moving, it's not gaining momentum. But then it appearing means that from the blue portal's perspective, it is actually moving relative to the space around it, and it is moving at the speed of the orange portal, which makes B seem correct.I guess this is why they made the portals immovable in the game?
>>220556286Not canon.
>>220556286That's really neat. Dune book was full of cool little ideas like this. For example, the fremen had hypnotically trained bats that could vocalize like parrots, which they used like carrier pigeons to send messages. The high houses of Dune also bred dogs to be comfy chairs. Not skinned them for fur, but living comfy chairs! Dennos' Dunc was pretty bad overal,, but I liked the one bit where Irulan dictated notes into an analog machine that typed out her speech on paper. I believe the alphabet was an ancient Mormon one, which was also a cool detail.
>>220556060In a low gravity planet with a high density atmosphere.
>>220556191Steel, could, if folded a 1000+ times.
>>220556531A, but only because it's smaller than the portal. If it was a tighter fit it'd be B because the portal would also be pushing air in behind it that couldn't escape without propelling it.
>>220557625Conditionally approved by Frank Herbert, unlike the Brianslop of the last 40 years
>>220558478Can you fold steel 1000 times? No, then the point remains the same, as it is beyond our technology.
>>220558573>Can you fold steel 1000 timesTo get steel with a 1000 layers you only need 10 folds...
>>220558765that's not 1000 folds hon, you can tell because you just said 10 folds
>>220556771>I still can't work out which is right. There is no correct answer based on physics because the portals throw known physics into the trash just by existing. But it's A because it's more intuitive
>>220556531A, it would just transition through the portal quickly with zero momentum, anyone who picks B needs to be castrated so they don't pass on their genes
>>220558804Reading comprehension, my esl friend.I simply stated a fact, I did not refute your claim.
>>220558573You can fold steel as often as you'd like, it just stops having an effect after a while.
