Troy (2004) is the perfect proof that “correct” casting, and proper armor don't make a movie good. The movie is still mid as fuck outside of like four cool battle scenes.
>>
>>220557732
Better than what actually happened where he came home and got killed by his bitch wife lmao
>>
>>220558111
Brad Pitt's performance was considered a disaster when the movie came out. In fact, a lot of the cast was unable to emote properly, especially Orlando Bloom watching his brother die for example.

Don't forget the movie even had an acclaimed director, the dude who directed Das Boot, and it still turned out to be shit.

Troy did Agamemnon dirty, in the Illiad he's a mighty warrior who slays countless Trojans, comes up with brilliant stratagems, and loves his soldiers and his people. Also Diomedes erasure is inexcusable.

Been a while since I read it, but I remember that we get a bad impression of Agamemelord in the early parts of the story. He's an egotist who insists on asserting his authority over Achilles, and in so doing, he alienates his best soldier. A lot of Greeks die because Aga has lost the support of the Myrmidons. Later we get heroic scenes of Aga rampaging across the battlefield, but ultimately we're supposed to sympathise with Achilles and view Aga as an overbearing prick. That's how I see it, anyway.

the strength of ancient greek drama and epics is in the fact that they were willing to show natural character behavior regardless of their morals, something that most ancient cultures and even shakespeare basically didn't do

Just like the Trojan War itself....
>>220558715
This, it was king's right vs best warrior's right to his prize, it was an insult and meant to put Achilles in his place even though he was the only reason they had war victories and trophies at all.
>>
>>220558853
>my god is stronger than your god

But the Greek gods are also the Trojan gods. It's not a clash of religions: the outcome is decided by the whims and caprice of these fickle deities as they act out their Olympian soap opera.
>>
>>220558805
>poor mind controlled woman?
There's the whole Aphrodite thing, but then she also walked around the trojan horse pretending to be the wives of some of the achaean warriors to see if anyone was hiding inside and get them to come out.
>>
>>220558805
Hey, we don't know Nolan's plans yet.

But mythology the women are accountable like men, and Helen eventually comes to realize that the war is entirely due to her selfishness. As a demigod, she has some hubristic flaws that she struggles to overcome since she's used to floating through life thanks to her powerful daddy, similarly to Achilles who's instead obsessed with his legacy. They struggle to relate to the common man up until a point.
>>
>>220557779
not in the homeric version of the story. in homer she is just a whore who took a lover and then helped him kill her husband.

and even in later retellings like the oresteia, which includes the "revenge for iphigenia" angle, she is not really meant to be "in the right" unless you read the story with a modern feminist bias. no matter what he did, it's not a woman's place to dispense justice and kill men; to a greek that was unnatural and gross. nobody's really morally "right" in the story, the whole house of atreus is just cursed because their ancestor tried to feed the gods human flesh.
>>
>>220558971
I watched a could of videos of the woman who did the translation they're using. She's a british hag who throws around words like colonialism and patriarchy. I don't think female accountability in greek tragedies was on her radar.
>>
>>220558953
>>But the Greek gods are also the Trojan gods
There's still division of patronage for city states and that's made more than obvious with which gods are team trojan and which are team mycenae. The greeks wouldn't analyse the story in terms of which god was more virtuous, but instead focus on which one was strongest and picked the best champions, so they wouldn't have a problem with being pro-Hector just because Approdite and Paris brain raped Helen.
>>
>>220558990
>not in the homeric version of the story. in homer she is just a whore who took a lover and then helped him kill her husband.
TFW Aeschylus was a leftist woketard jew revisionist
>>
>>220558990
>to a greek that was unnatural and gross.
If it was so unnatural and gross, audiences of the time would've rejected it and authorities would've censored the story. It's clear that Homeric writers were willing to believe that it is something a woman would do and therefore natural storytelling.

because trad fash also means the gods will immediately put all the women in kitchens and all the men out on epic military parades to complete the trad aesthetic

greek myths are self-contained in their own timeline, never take them at face value all together. For example:
Odysseus planned the Trojan Horse so he was there for the sack of Troy but Achilles died before the sack but somehow Odysseus was surprised to see him in the underworld. But all this comes from 3 different stories with varying canonicity
>>
>>220559040
what the hell are you talking about? In Elektra, Clytemnestra is shown to be in the wrong for both killing Agamemnon and marrying off Elektra to a peasant. Only when Orestes comes back home they enact revenge against their mother and her lover. Afterwards Orestes leaves his home because it was a rightful but abject thing to do.
