This was a brilliant movie for me because I didnt know it was based on a real soldier or directed by Clint so the ending hit hard. Like Gran Torino and Unforgiven it looks at the real result of killing and this approach is perhaps Clint atoning for the life-is-cheap type message he was a part of.

If you read the actual book written (partly) by the real-life Chris Kyle, you realize just how massively the film adaptation mischaracterizes him. For one thing, the real life Chris Kyle vehemently denied ever having PTSD and in fact joked about how guys who claimed to have it were pussies. He also constantly talks about how much he enjoyed killing, even foreign children / American protestors, and never once describes having any regret about it. The movie makes Chris Kyle out to be someone filled with regret despite doing what he did for a greater good which would probably really piss the real life guy off if he was still alive at the time of its release. The book is much more interesting for that reason imo.

Interesting. If anything its a good real life example of the way of the gun. It'd be very hard to not shoot that many people and not get shot yourself.

>the movie omits how deeply chris kyle was in denial

wow

It's also largely embellished if not outright made up at times. The real guy was a complete psycho.

What?

>The real guy was a complete psycho.
and he was portrayed as complete psychos appear to others, not as they see themselves.

Now I want a dark comedy movie about the real deal, like a Full Metal Jacket knockoff

It'd be a lot more dark / interesting overall if they went that route

The weirdest scene in the book is when he claims he and another guy were deployed to New Orleans during Katrina and sniped a bunch of US civilians they deemed “looters” now most people think this is a bullshit made up tough guy fantasy but it always struck me as odd. Why make that up?

during the credits when it's revealed that his funeral was at the fucking dallas cowboy's stadium i cracked up pretty hard

Can you prove it didn’t happen? No? Then shut the fuck up civilian.

>watch the 9/11 scene
>And what appears to be a controlled demolition but can't possibly be....
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
>guy who killed him is a schizo
>gee I wonder how long his nose is
>>
>>220564556
It probably did happen. I wouldn't put it past our government for a second. What's actually weird is that they let that part of the book be published.

TBQH I think more in his book is real than most people realize, DEVGRU has 100% killed Americans in the US before, I wonder if that’s why (((they))) had him killed?
>>
>>220561478
Also didn’t include a scene where Jesse Ventura bad mouthed the military and Chris had to kick his ass to set him straight
>>

Boasting about acts that he thinks are cool. Just because you were an elite operator does not mean you can fall to human pride. Look at the clownshoes army sniper that goes by reaper, total idiot saying idiot things. He was trained for his skills but no way that guy should be making decisions.

David goggins and his bullshit motivation are harming others, same as Gary vaynerchuck.
