Have you watched Farscape recently? does it hold up?
>>220561696I last watched it from beginning to end back in 2013. But I've rewatched a shit ton of favorite episodes like Crackers Don't Matter and Look at the Princess over the years. Absolute kino show
It might be the best televised sci-fi ever.
>>220561728>absolute movie show
>>220561696One of my all-time favorite shows, I put it on before bed and fall asleep to it so I can have Farscape dreams.
My boy Rygel
>>220561911Don't bully the retards, it's not yuge or based.
>>220561696for me it's Sikozu Svala Shanti Sugaysi Shanu
>>220561696I rewatched it about a year ago and its still good. The only bad thing about it is that there's no real HD version of it with it all being upscaled.
>>220562085That’s not a bad thing because I own a CRT and will just watch it the way it was meant to be watched
>>220561696def holds up. i can always throw on some farscape.
>>220562085it's on tubi
Scorpius best character.I'd love to know if they intended on having him be a major part of the show from the get-go, or if he just owned the role to such a degree that they had to keep bringing him back. He's basically the second protagonist by S4.
>>2205616962023. Oh hell yeah. It was even a little better than I remembered. I thought it took the whole first season to get everything in place, but it was actually only about the first ten or so episodes.
>>220562137Can I poob it?
>>220561911Yes shows are in fact a type of moving picture
>>220562085It was shot on film and the reels are "lost", not destroyed. Maybe they'll find them one day in some warehouse.
>>220561696you don't need to have these petty bait threads john, just ask and we'll have pizza and margaritas
>>220561728watch scratch and sniff, john and d'argo get kicked off moya on drug planet, its a banger
>>220562085The Blu-ray version is at least uncompressed and looks noticeabley better than the DVDs which had all kinds of image issues and honestly were a bit shit
I actually felt bad for Harvey when I thought they killed him off.
>>220562141He was intended to replace Crais cause they realized Crais could never actually catch Crichton without killing him. They wanted a villain who would chase him but not murder him on the spot.
>>220562302
>>220561696Don't know how any adult can watch a show with puppets in it and take it seriously.

>>220562342should be my baby
>>220561696>Have you watched Farscape recently? does it hold up?I watched it years back and while it was ok and looked cool, it was clearly a case of the story existing solely as a vehicle for the art.

>>220562411I miss Zhaan her final goodbye to everyone is pure kino, buckets of tears>my children my comrades my friends
The first movie has so much atmosphere and dread while also having that tongue-in-cheek humorous vein, none of the sequels were able to come close. It's essential Y2K horror.2 is fun but really lazy, where the main girl just gets convenient visions whenever the plot needs to move forward, whereas in the first movie you had to WaTcH fOr ThE sIgNs and it was therefore much more suspensful and satisfying. 3 is mediocre but carried hard by Mary Elizabeth Winstead who gives a performance way too good and way better than the movie deserves. It also does have some fun kills.4 is dogshit.5 is a fun return to form, with some great death sequences, although the climax is a bit too silly with him squaring off with evil Tom Cruise, but with a great twist ending.6 is solid all around but there's nothing all that remarkable about it either, aside from the hospital death sequence.

Where's my damn ice cream, /tv/?
Why did they make Zhaan's comeback in S4 some VR game plot, instead of actually doing something of substance? They could totally have had her ascend to a non-corporeal being, and then they could have ditched the makeup that was making the actress ill.
>>220562575We got crackers.
Why is it that everything affiliated in any way with Jim Henson is certified kino? What was it about this soft spoken, frog loving country boy from the Mississippi Delta that has brought humanity so much joy and entertainment ?
>It's been more than 20 years
>>220562585its not like shes a human or a peacemaker whos got something odd about her, she's a fucking plant, a tree w/e you can't have zhaan show up like that, if shes ascened which she was she can't look like a peacemaker thats just dumb, she isn't human if anything they could've had some spirit world sequence where the actress is talking to them and they are seeing some massive beautiful blue tree or something, Yggdrasil style the world tree.
farscape thread?
>>220562668Just put some glowwy digital effect on her.
>>220561696I had to stop after a while because it became too repetitive and tasteless.liked some of it when it first came out, watched it most weeks. saw some of it again in the decades that followed, episodes here and there.left it alone for a long time but a few months ago I found they'd made a sort of - film' add on to wrap up the series.it was pretty lame, but only in keeping with the series itself. usual sort of thing as usual, one character going blind for 30 minutes like seemingly happened in every scifi/action series throughout the 80s and 90s.i think people who like lightweight scifi drama will like it, production quality is good, the look is unique and it manages to keep going with a very small scale universe. acting is alright, the main guy is the weakest one and looks like he's hyper self aware he's on camera.the girls are pretty.
I always heard the blue makeup was causing her to have health issues. You can always go watch The Road Warrior and see her at her absolute peak
>>220562710thats why I'm saying have one of those spirit world thingies happen and they talk to a massive tree with space and shit all around, put some blue glowey magic stuff over it, then the actress talks to them, ascended being and all.
>>220562738retard, got it
>>220562743yea thats why having her show up later as a supernatural being, a tree or a glowey blue light w/e would've been great, everyone understands the paint was fucking her up irl
>>220562761Actually he is correct.Shows back then weren’t really created for binge watching. At most, someone might have a TiVo device and catch up on a week or two at once. But when you binge watch you can tell they reused shit a lot to stretch the budget. Same with Stargate
>>220562368did they ever mention buck rogers being where they ripped off almost the whole idea and main character from?
>>220562697Farscape thread
Someone already named my favourite episode; Scratch 'n' Sniff. I like when Rygel was on earth and got addicted to Halloween candy.
>>220561696>does it hold upIt doesn't. This shit is reddit chungus. Even moreso than Hail Mary.
>>220562638agreed.labyrinth is amazinghave you seen the series "the storyteller" and "greek myths"
Is there any reason they couldn't just switch to a different makeup? Can she just not tolerate having makeup on her skin?

>>220561696It's pretty much reddit meets netflix meets globohomo feminism. Basically it's feminism the show made to hypnotise the viewer into thinking "white men bad" and "POC women good". There isn't really much more to this dreary show than that.
>>220562761quite the opposite. you're the cretin that swallows everything without the slightest thought and flips out if anyone critiques it.guarantee you're 20 years too young to have seen it when it was first out too
>>220561696>first episode it makes a big deal that they can't understand chriton because he is form the other side of the galaxy so they need to inject him with nano bots so they can communicate>next episode they come across a world that never had alien visitors but they can speak with them just fine
The bot posts are a bit pongy today.
>>220562835I wouldn't say its my favorite, Im the one who said Scratch 'n' Sniff its definitely up their, Look at the Princess 3 parter might be my favorite, its perfect. Apart from that SnS, as you say rygel on earth, crackers don't matter obviously, the finale with talin starburst quite a lot actually but John and D'argo being idiot bros is always so damn good. Honorable mention to the loony tunes ep.
>>220562872Avenging Angel. The Crichton on Moya gets knocked into a coma by Dargo under hyper rage. His coma dreams manifest as Chuck Jones styled cartoons while he tries to figure out what to do with Dargo, if he lives.
>>220562315This. It's Muppets for 30 year olds.
>>220562916Good science fiction writers know that the fiction part is more important than the science part.
>>220562855he wasn't saying about reusing props.the storylines and moments are copy/pasted, it's quite formulaic.even when it first came out it was evident, the same shot of criton swagger marching down the corridor right to left while being a blabber mouth blowhard and then an explosion would go off an interrupt him.
>>220562874no I'm much older then you and you just don't get it, we knew sets were being reused when you record things on your vhs to rewatch and see shows over and over especially scifi shows you see it even as a young lad and that doesn't matter, its ok kid you'll understand once you get some hair on your balls.
>>220562943I still like the Muppets.
>>220562958>characters act in characteryep figured you grew up on GoT style shit, serialized shows confuse and upset you, I get it.
Did anyone catch that one bit of set they reused a few times, that totally had the tiles from Rick Deckard's appartment?

no. i started watching LOST though. i was 14 when it first came on so everyone i knew watched it, but i didnt have an interest, so im giving it a shot now
>>220563014They definitely earn their wackier episodes.
>>220563049I get you really want to have a fight kid but I'm not interested I watched the show when it aired I am much older then you. I didn't read beyond the first few words of your post, that is all, lmao.
>>220563054still can't believe that he was pilot
>>220563003It's not the crew of Moya that is the problem, it's the alien planet they land on that can understand them perfectly. John should be able to understand the aliens, but they shouldn't be able to understand him.It was basically a Star Trek first contact episode they adapted without too much thought.
>>220562932I absolutely adored watching Crichton and Aeryn fall in love. It was a real kick in the balls when clone Crichton died and Aeryn was so cold to prime Crichton.
>>220563045it was watched with the whole family and had something for everyone to enjoy.stuff like farscape was made for a similar audience to friends and buffy the vampire slayer - but was of a higher quality than either.i'm not even a big fan of it, but the audience was clear.those people will have then grown older but still enjoy it, and the type that will spend time each day posting on this board are another subsection, and beyond that who'd bother to post on a thread specific to it is another.puppetry was used in all kinds of practical effects in film and TV. you must have been fist fucked by a family member as a child if you have some major aversion to puppets due to your shared empathy with them.

>>220563094damn I forgot about that, other Crichton throwing a fucking sun at the scarren dreadnought is amazing, maybe one of the best scenes ever. A lot of people give shit to season 3 splitting the crew but imo its got some of the best moments in the show.
>>220563135I used to watch almost any scifi crap I could find on late-night tv in the 90s and 2000s, and lexx was unwatchable. it felt like going into a dive bar in a drug addled ghetto where your feet stuck to the tacky floor.i have a feeling anyone who likes it is the type that thinks being a bartender is a career and collects venereal diseases and tattoos.

>>220563196I think S3 is the most interesting one.Only disappointing part is they didn't take the opportunity to have an episode where Tallon is in some big Star Trek style ship battle.
>>220562297The blu-rays used the PAL broadcast tapes which have a slightly higher resolution than the NTSC ones. The blu-rays came out about 15 years ago so they could probably do a better job now with AI upscaling.

>>220563233you are barking up the wrong tree kiddo get your weird urges out somewhere else, no more (you)s ok I think I've been very understanding up to this point.
>>220563089The first time Crichton meets Dargo and Zhan, they can understand him, he just can't understand them. You are seeing it from Johns perspective.Everybody who goes down to the alien planet already has translator microbes by that point. They are in theory translating both outgoing and ingoing for their host. You can keep nitpicking the concept of universal translators if you want, but its a huge waste of time. If you don't allow this hand wave then every episode would need to spend a stupid amount of time just getting characters to be able to communicate at all.
>>220563321
>>220563196The fact they had a kind of standard sci fi episode where the main character gets cloned, and then they didn't kill off the clone at the end of the episode and then ran it through the rest of the season is fucking awesome. That how expectations are subverted the right way
>>220563348this, translators don't matter

>>220563387and its not like other crichton is any less important then prime crichton hell if it had gone the other way and prime one had died instead it would've been no more impactful then the other one, they both were crichton, its a hell of thing to pull off.
>>220563348that's not shown to be the way it works in other episodes. Like when they go to Earth, and the crew has to actually learn English (which is kind of glossed over in my opinion and I can't imagine D'argo and Rigel ever bothering to learn, but I get it)

>>220564727The most skippable episodes are the middle chunk of season 1, but they are still pretty good for building character dynamics and character backstory stuff. I wouldn't really call them skippable. The episodes are enclosed like a TNG ep but the character stuff follows through the whole show. >>2205678981st season is just kind of decent scifi. The end of the 1st season seriously ups the stakes and shit goes increasingly off the rails in batshit entertaining ways. The best thing about it is getting to watch the main character go nuts. By the end he's strapping nukes to his groin and giving speeches about being American to the emperor of a psychotic lizard race. The series real main antagonist is introduced near the end of season 1 and the relationship between him and John is a treat to watch unfold. In my opinion Scorpius is one of the greatest sci fi villains ever. Also every episode has some new weird alien shit going on too. It's not obvious in the first season where the show is going but once you get into season 2 it's a rollercoaster of space crazy. Also Rygel
>>220567501That isn't even remotely the worst episode you fucking tourist
>>220568033Maybe I quit it too soon. Appreciate the input
>>220561696I /just/ finished a rewatch. It made a lot more sense after reading the goal for the series was "Trek but emotions". The gap between the practical stuff which looks top tier and the PS2 visual effects is amazing, similar to Babylon 5, just proving that putting the effort in to smear some latex on people (or even using muppets) stands the test of time so much better than whatever the vfx department is doing. >>220567898>What does this show do well?Like>>220567994Says, it's about FAMILY, but unironically. The crew all being stuck together and alternately loving and hating each other is the bread and butter. There are more "Star Trek-y" episodes, even a few with some big ethical dilemma (one that comes to mind is a time travel episode where they have to resolve a peace they just fucked up). It takes them a while to find the framing of John having some key knowledge Scorpy wants to have, and that then is the background motivation to most of the rest of the seasons. Which is really a tool for drilling into characters and motivations, quite literally thanks to a little injection into John's brain.

>>220561696I've been trying to decide between this, Lexx, nu-Doctor Who, or 00s Battlestar Galactica.
>>220572182Farscape is the best, Battlestar Galactica is great but ends shitty, Doctor Who is pretty good for the first five seasons.
>>220569501When I was a teenager, that show was my nightly routine for about a year. >Get up>Pretend to go to school>Actually hang out at the mall and listen to Howard Stern in my car, or play Third Strike in the arcade>Go home "after class", and take a nap>Get up, and go work my closing shift working the backroom at Target>Go home, and make something to eat>Turn TV on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vo6ebIy4COw>After Lexx, switch over to Toonami >GI Joe was my sign to go to bed>Start the next day, and do it all over again

>>220561696>recentlyIts probably been a few years since the last time, but yes, it holds up for the most part. Its got a few stinkers, and once in a while the creatures really didn't sell. But what made it great then makes it still a great show now.
I miss the days when there were rumors of a Farscape movie... That was about 10 years ago
>>220564918>who the fuck is zeriam?Classic anime with a gratuitous shower scene like all 90's anime. There was an OVA and a movie. A giant unkillable penis headed alien monster is the inciting threat. Genuinely worth checking out if you haven't seen it, I think the ova is MAYBE 6 episodes. Its got a cool nippon-punk space opera kind of aesthetic.
>>220572182may I make a suggestion
>>220572479I was reading through ideas of what they could potentially do for a revival, and one idea that comes up is the fact that John hypothetically has three kids (Aeryn's child, the child he left behind on that other planet where he was king briefly, and Grayza's child whose father was never specified).
>>220572547Oh yeah, I've thought about Babylon 5 too, just because I'm in love with Patricia Tallman thanks to Night of the Living Dead '90, and I know that she's in it.
>>220572571>the child he left behind on that other planet where he was king brieflyIsn't she supposed to be born in 80 years?
>>220561696>does it hold up?it always seemed dated when it first came outnever understood the love for this showalways awful from the startcampy but not even in a fun way
>>220573660yeah, but stuff could happen.
>>220572529What the fuck, anon. Zeiram is a live action movie, in the style of Terminator/Alien/Predator, that got a sequel movie and a 6 episode OVA a few years later.Stop being a f/a/g, and get it right.
As for Grayza being pregnant in PKW, I think the actual reason for that is that the actress was pregnant for real, but it the idea that Grayza intentionally got herself pregnant with John's child for nefarious career advancing reasons, is a interesting plot thread you could pursue.

>>220574356I was talking about Sikozu yelling it like 3 times (or 3 realities).
>>220562315>Don't know how any adult can watch a show with puppets in it and take it seriously.>and take it seriously.>seriously.If anyone takes Farscape "seriously" they missed the entire fucking point.Besides, didn't you know it's all make-believe?? Good luck getting your peepee touched, loser.

Farscape gets too silly for me.The good is there's a really strong cast of characters and episodes that aren't all that well written plot wise can be really well written for the character interplay. That's not a backhanded compliment and I don't think the show should be anything besides episodic adventures of fish out of water man and his motley crew. I genuinely think as Farscape treats its plot as more important than just being a frame story for the crew to bounce off one another, it's a worse show for it.
>>220575459Disagree entirely. The best thing about Farscape is how the larger story arcs almost sneak up on you, along with the whole relationship between John and Scorpius and how that develops over the course of the show. The wacky space adventures stuff almost serves to lull you into a false sense of security, before they dump a metric tonne of kino in your lap.
>>220575662I dunno man between eating a revolver and watching the peacekeeper wars the revolver looks mighty tempting.
>>220575700You gotta cut peacekeeper wars some slack. It was the best they could do under the circumstances. They got cancelled while filming season 4, and they were expecting to get a 5th season to finish the show properly.Peacekeeper Wars was made well after the fact with a sci fi channel budget, and a bunch of the shit they had from the show was lost and they just had to make do.At the very least, the climax of it is pretty fucking great, even if a lot of the make up and shit was significantly worse and the story was a season crammed down into a mini series.
>>220567283Kino
>>220575700the only thing I don't like about Peacekeeper wars is the way they killed Jool, and the fact that the whole plot point of the Scarrans needing a certain flower to stop them reverting to animal level intelligence is just completely ignored. Oh, and Pilot's voice is all weird, and it's distracting.
>>220562743damn, never seen Farscape but that's one of my favorite movies and I know exactly who that is, didn't know she was in this
>>220576135>Oh, and Pilot's voice is all weird, and it's distracting. They literally lost the sound settings and couldn't figure out how to replicate it perfectly

>>220563473I don't understand your hangup on translator microbes.Of course a biological ship that travels FTL and to unknown areas would have a stock of translator microbes. Most worlds have already been infected with them, even worlds like the I, ET world.Which means that the I, ET world has been visited by races that use the translator microbes before, they just don't have proof of it, but strongly suspect that extraterrestrial life does exist. We even know that at least one race, Sikozu's race, the Kalish, can't use translator microbes.Whatever John did back in time in 1985 on Earth wasn't enough to introduce the microbes to Earth. However, when John and Moya's crew visited Earth in 2003, and were freely passing out the microbes to heads of state and others, I'm sure that was sufficient to start their spread on Earth. As soon as Earth gets their shit together enough to be involved with intergalactic politics, they will have the bonus of translator microbes to interact with other races and species.Probably the greatest gift John gave the Earth, the ability to communicate across language barriers.
