Did Dickie Greenleaf deserve to die?

Were you rooting for Ripley?
>>
I didn't know this was a gay movie when I started watching it.
>>
>>220565352
You don't need to justify yourself, son
>>
I think he would have gotten away with it if he didn't kill his last boyfriend at the very end. They were on a fucking boat and everybody saw them together.
>>
>>220565352
>>220565382
>>220565444
Neither of them are homosexuals.
>>
>>220565205
He refused to visit his sick dying mother in America, instead he preferred to laze around in Italy, living off his father's money.
>>
>>220565205
The entire plot was preposterous.

>old money chad hanging around with a poor loser dork
>dork is clearly gay and lusty the whole time
>everyone immediately clocks the gay loser as an opportunist slimeball
>the gay dork actually thinking he can pull off a switcheroo with noone noticing
>>
>>220565205
sure why not.
rich kid who did nothing with his life
>>
>>220565736
But they do notice

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-kknU6UFX4
>>
Can you still live like this in Italy?
>>
>>220565646
damon was, but its left ambiguous to not turn off regular viewers. if he'd came out and said "i'm gay" it wouldnt have been such a popular movie.
>>
>>220565736
Dickie was known to be infatuated with a novelty and would lovebomb them, mate said so when she is trying to console him about not going to the ski trip.
>>
>>220565865
That’s why the newer adaptation is better
>>
>>220565862
If you have money, you can do that anywhere. Look at all the dorks in japan that pick up girls out of their league.
>>
>>220565862
yes, but that picture would have 500 tourists in it now
>>
>>220565896
does it have gay
>>
>>220565646
Ripley genuinely fell in love with that brit guy he kills at the end
>>
>>220565862
now you have african criminals

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrsT-vikBdg
>>
>>220565935
He didn't. He was a narcissistic sociopath incapable of love. Maybe he realised this and that's why he killed him
>>
>>220565940
@7:00 africans stealing from charity well
@10:00 africans selling drugs to tourists
@12:00 african pick pockets
@20:00 african gets KO'd after trying to scam
>>
>>220565967
You might be on the spectrum, buddy boy. Get yourself tested, now!
>>
>>220565205
What kind of stupid name is Dickie?
>>
>>220566372
richard
>>
>>220565205
I don't think he deserved to die, but I wasn't exactly disappointed when Ripley smashed his dome with the paddle. Dude was a useless, pompous cunt.
>>
If you want to have friends and be social, you are going to have to build a persona that is desired and understanding.
>>
>>220566798
He is also more mean spirited in the book from what little I read. His stream of consciousness is sharp.
>>
>>220565205
In the book Greenleaf is entirely innocent.
Ripley formulates the plan to kill him as they're on the boat back and kills him in cold blood. And then consciously assumes his identity.
The film bends over backwards to paint Greenleaf as a terrible person.
He attacks Ripley on the boat, and Ripley must defend himself accidentally killing him. And is accidentally mistaken for Greenleaf.
>>
>>220565646

Patricia Highsmith (lesbian) wrote the novel. It’s an allegory for sexual repression. And pickling yourself in the closet. Ripley is what happens if you don’t just come out.
>>
>>220568251
He also wants to ascending from His class and be worshipped. I always thought it would be better to be a fake somebody than be a real nobody.

The American Friend is a better Ripley Movie
>>
HEY TOM

how's the peeping????
>>
>>220565797
Phillip Seymour Hoffman was so goddamn versatile.
>>
>>220565865
It was not ambiguous at all
>>
>>220568348
I've heard of you.
>>
>>220569168
>Phillip Seymour Hoffman was so goddamn versatile.
I know right? sometimes he's smug, but other times he's snarky or sarcastic. so versatile.
>>
>>220569257
Nah, he was broken in that theater movie.

As usual, the american remake is crap
>>
>>220565352
Did you think the guy named Dickie was straight?
>>
>>220569972
And it has Alain Delon, the most attractive man that ever lived.
>>
>>220565862
No, because you overdosed on heroin 10 years ago.
>>
>>220568251
Highsmith didn't consider Ripley to be gay. He's a black void that consumes people, he's asexual.
>>
>>220570005
It's just a name.
>>
>>220570030
Every asexual I ever met turned out to be gay.
>>
>>220570086
How many weirdos are you meeting?
>>
>>220570030
Wrong. She was gay and injected homosexuality into many books.
>>
>>220565205
no
no
>>
>>220570536
She said in an interview he was gay but would never do anything about it, he just wants to use people to improve his lot in life.
>>
>>220565205
>Did Dickie Greenleaf deserve to die?
Why would he?
>>
>>220570030
That's just a description of a gay though
>>
>>220570033
nomen est omen
>>
>DICKIE DICKIE DICKIE
>>
>>220570619
He was put of line, never put yourself in a situation where you could be at a disadvantage. Why did he even go out at sea, they were already going to stop hanging out after being disinfected to the sky trip. Hubris did dickie in.
>>
>>220565205
I never understood anything about this movie
>>
>>220570900
What is difficult to get? He is a lowly person trying to finaggle his way into high society.
>>
>>220566837
you need to improve your media literacy if that is your entire take away
