I'm a big fan of the original but I couldn't get myself through the first episode of this and I hate the new setting. Does it get better?

The problem is City Primeval is an original Elmore Leonard novel written in 1980, it doesn't have the character of US Marshal Raylan Givens or any of his supporting characters.

I had no idea but it feels really obvious now that I know. I'm surprised the producers didn't understand the appeal of the original with its hillbilly setting and family blood feuds. Raylan feels really detached without these.
