Are these actually bad?
>>
>>220570713
It could be argued that they're bad. The first one is still the best video game movie though.
>>

They are the definition of campy

MK 1995 > MK 2 >>>> Annihilation > MK 2021 > the tv show > Defenders of the Realm

I only moved Annihilation so far ahead because of the techno soundtrack that's missing from the new ones.
>>
The first film has many fans on /tv/, but that's only because our anons are nostalgists who love things that remind them of their childhood. They'll tell you Event Horizon is a classic, too.
>>
>>220570713
Not in any way that matters.
>>
>>220570780
Event Horizon is not a classic, but kino. Paul's filmography went downhill ever since.
>>
>>220570713
First one is ok in a bubble, second one is trash.
>>
Did everyone really hate 2021 so much? I thought it was a cool watch even though the MC was a wet towel.
>>
>>220570807
2021 had too much Cole, and he was absolute dogshit. If they at least made him the new Scorpion, instead he was some OC Donut Steel shit.
>>
>>220570770
>>220570780
Annihilation is terrible, even as a kid I knew that. I was just splooging all over from Noticing the characters.
>>
>>220570807
The opening was great, then what followed was aggressively mid. Just make a Scorpion and Sub-Zero centered movie, the fans would be fine with that.
>>
>>220570780
Nah things were just made with more sincerity back then and less ironic cynicism. I can watch movies that I never did as a kid from back then or older and find value in them.
>>
>>220570807
It was mid as fuck. That's all i remember. And Raiden sounds retarded.
>>
>>220570713

No one cared about Cole and they wasted cool characters like Mileena and Kabal. It's not bad though and it gave us MKII which is the second best one.
>>
>>220570807
I only saw the sub zero fight and loved it. Killer instinct and the one with Mia needs an adaptation. I just want a busty asian in ma's costume. Never even got far in the game, would lose 5 dollars in coins every Saturday and never got far. Still loads of fun.

Not bait. You don't have to like it, but it's about everything you could've asked from a Mortal Kombat movie releasing in 2026.
>>
>>220570713
First one? No.
Second one? Yes.
>>
>>220570873
It's the highest rated MK movie of all of them right now. I also don't think it's better than the first one but it's a clear second best.
It's actually odd they've never made a perfect Mortal Kombat since it's not hard. Take Mortal Kombat 1 through 3, get rid of some of the filler and there you go.

Had no idea rammstein was in the movie or is it just the soundtrack? Scooter was one of the first jump core artist I listened to when I got internet. Pitschiftwr was awesome in twisted metal. Microwave!

They were exactly the movies they needed to be at the time if you were a kid playing the MK games.

>things were just made with more sincerity back then and less ironic cynicism.

I'm an '84 kid, and I remember the films of the 90s quite well. The constant sequence of formulaic blockbusters seemed cynical to me, and even as a boy I felt they were insulting our intelligence. Films like Cliffhanger, Twister, Volcano, Independence Day, Armageddon, Timecop, Jingle All The Way, Look Who's Talking Now, and Schumacher's two execrable Batman films. Things are still pretty shit today, but let's not pretend we didn't swallow a load of total fucking shit back in the day.
>>
>>220570713
The first one is good but Paul W.S. Anderson other movies like Event Horizon and Soldier are significantly better.

Smoke's in it too. In retrospect I've come to realize Sektor is the most based over the years but yeah, the cyborg ninjas are underutilized.
>>
>>220571081
Silent Hill is a good movie but a bad adaptation of the game.
>>
>>220571110
This. It's alright but the actual game is much more kino. Mortal Kombat on the other hand always had a very loose story and you could adapt it in a variety of ways, so the quality drop off wasn't significant. I still wish the movie had fatalities but w/e.
>>
>>220571085
>Cliffhanger, Twister, Volcano, Independence Day, Armageddon, Timecop, Jingle All The Way, Look Who's Talking Now, and Schumacher's two execrable Batman films
these were all great movies

i agree but also the silent hill games are melodramatic slop
>>
>>220570713

>>
>>220571097
Smoke is one if the subzero ninjas alternative swaps. Not the cyborg. Unless im mistaken.
>>
Annihilation legit belongs on Worst Movies of All Time lists

People will tell you MK1 is a legit good movie but who the fuck cares? I want Mortal Kombat dammit, and Annihilation gives me that

Cyber Smoke was a thing in the games. In the new timeline, Sub-Zero became a cyborh in MK9 instead.

>>
>>220571549
The Manga trailer had kmgdm, right? The vhs of ghost in the shell.
>>
>>220571539
It's because of being on a disc. On the N64, the load times are instant. The disadvantage of the Nintendo is that it couldn't have full motion video like the PS1, which is very evident in MK Mythologies: Sub Zero
>>
>>220570713
yeah, both wasted
MK itself is a shameless ripoff of enter the dragon, and besides goro in the first one the only difference to a regular martial arts tournament movie is the costumes
>>
>>220570807
The shitty cgi goro ruined it for me
>>
>>220571593
It's a ripoff of a variety of stuff, not just enter the dragon. But the more accurate word is homage, because the lore eventually became very much its own thing.
>>
>>220571085
Jingle All the Way was kino. I agree on Shumacher's Batman, was never my thing and the Burton ones were better.
>>

that 30 more years of lore happened is the mistake

>It's because of being on a disc.

Possibly. But the Tekken trilogy had shorter load times than MKT. Come to think of it, the R-Type port to Playstation also had unacceptable load times. So did Blood Omen. The console struggled with 2D games. Not sure why, but it did.
>>
>>220571850
I think it's due to it loading music and sound tracks, but I could be wrong. Maybe the port itself just wasn't great.
The Blood Omen thing is also true.

>Are these actually bad?

The second one is.

The first one is quality 90s pulp. It has a great theme song, game accurate costumes that don't look stupid, solid martial arts stunt work and fights. Christopher Lambert and a practical special effects version of Goro that's pure kino.
>>
>>220571746
She was hotter in this than I expected but it's something that you pick up on in motion.
I'm sure the actress is a retard but she did a good job with this all things considered.
>>
>>220571936
She seems ok, not pretentios or giving off diva vibes.
I think she likes Shao Kahn more than Liu Kang though
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFzKNdXWfVo
>>
>>220571934
>Christopher Lambert
He played that part so well, it's still never been topped in either the games or movies
>>
>>220571975
It depends on what you need Raiden for. In MK9 he's got a bit of a holier than thou attitude because of visions he seems from the future, and is so deadset on being right that it becomes funny at one point when everything goes tits up. Lambert's Raiden would be too witty to use in that kind of storyline.
>>
Mortal Kombat (1995) is excellent.
Mortal Kombat Annihilation (1997) was made with no involvement from Paul W.S. Anderson and is a rancid cash grab that fails on basically every level besides some okay fight scenes.

The argument isn't that there was no heavily corporatized commercialism back then, of course there was but things have been on such a downward trajectory that all the humanity has been sucked dry even from big studio productions.
Your pic for instance, there is no new talent for this generation with the comedic chops of Jim Carrey.
Also Independence Day was a masterpiece of miniatures and practical effects. It's a lost art that we will likely never see again

>>

Paul W. S. Anderson is definitely not the best director, but I've yet to see a movie of his that doesn't have SOUL.
>>
I tried watching the first one a few times and I just end up falling asleep. It could be 9pm and next thing I know I'm waking up 4 hours later wondering what happened.
>>
>>220572062
>Its a shame he went blind and stopped acting
Anon, he was always bordeline blind. His vision has always been such shit that without his glasses he cannot see for shit. So all the swordfights he did in movies, all the climbing he had to do in Greystoke, he did all of that effectively blind.
