It was kind of cool that it took more inspiration from Ten and Eleven aesthetically (parts of the movie looked like straight game assets from those two) Way better than the previous movie. Soft reboot was a smart idea. Letting Cole Young die in disgrace was a smart idea. Bringing back Cage, in his appropriate role as comic relief/exposition man, was what they should have done from the start. Should have been substantially more gruesome, there's really only two memorable kills in the movie when the whole thing is nominally balanced on Extremely Gory Kills. They had the fight choreography down - which is what they really needed - but it didn't have the visceral punch, with blood and guts and dismemberment, that you really expect when you think Mortal Kombat. The plot was fine, and the actors had a couple fun moments among the few cast members who actually can act. Speaking of, I got a kick out of seeing Shogun from Shogun as Scorpion. I'd call this movie a massive step forward compared to their last effort.
