Is it me or does their average views seem to be improving lately?

It's impressive they're maintained their audience as much as they have, most of channels from their era have cratered or died

He destroyed Star Wars and his childhood hero Captain Kirk called him an imbecile

>>
>>220573908
Star Wars destroyed itself. Those movies are awful and trying to bank on nostalgia faggots brought that shit on.
>>
Maybe they could review fucking movies instead of crying about Star Trek for months at a time.
>>
>>220573854
Its kinda refreshing to see them do whatever the fuck they want for their videos, keeps them stagnation. Most youtubers after a decade have already formed a very small cult of followers and just do whatever their audience demands, RLM doesnt seem to give a shit on what their audience wants and thats ironically what its audience seems to enjoy the most. Not reviewing batman was the best thing they could have done.
>>

I didn't watch rlm at all last year but since the beginning of this month I'm warming up to them again. I'm rewatching some old botw while having dinner.

>>
>>220573953
It is, actually. If you make presumptions from their Superman review and others, it's just Mike and Jay asking Rich if they did shit like that in the comics, he says "kinda", and then they don't really say much. I'd rather them review black spines.

>>220573719

>>
>>220573953
They've been pretty smart to slowly evolve their content over time to keep it just fresh enough. The movie landscape has changed a ton since they started so stuff like Half in the Bag doesn't make as much sense anymore so it only rarely makes appearances. Watching them and their reaction to things is like watching the evolution of Hollywood the last 15 years and that meta aspect keeps people tuning in the most I think.
>>
>>220573663
Turns out like 1/4 of their audience was using adblockers and don't get counted anymore. Patreon numbers didn't go down
>>
>>220573821
They had a really dire stretch after the algorithm changes

I think BotW is way too long now

if Jay and Rich keep ranking directors' filmographies, I will be there every time.
it's a good format, not only for going through all a director's movies, but giving an idea of which ones are the good ones, and showing how two different movie fans rank them differently

lol
>>
>>220574551
It being the 2 of them making lists makes it work. 1 guy make a ranking is always just bait. 2 people discussing their separate rankings makes it an actual thing. Unfortunately, there's only so many of these they can do since they have a pretty specific time period and director type that works for this format. It's hard to explain but it's like if they wouldn't review the movie on Half in the Bag if they were doing that show back then, then it's not the type of director they'd do a ranking list for.
>>
>>220574661

According to Graphtreon they were steadily climbing, peaked during covid at over 11000 paid members, and it's dropped since then to like 9500. I hope they've invested their e-begging money well because in another 10 years these guys are toast.

everyone loved the prequels, aside from jar jar, and it wasn't until their reviews that people's opinions went sour

then the sequels happened and prequel memes took off

Prequel memes, games, and the Clone Wars saved the prequels but everything RLM said in their original was the popular consensus at the time. It didn't brainwash people- you have the cart before the horse there.

AI prequel memes are the best use of AI. That stupidity level is exactly what the prequels and AI deserve.

>Reviewing The Batman has been some kind of weird hill that Mike has chosen to die on, when you can tell Jay couldn't care less.
Jay was the one who said he refuses to watch it because the people suggesting it seem like douchebags like the people who told him he should watch Boondock Saints which is a pretty personal insult to a large section of their audience.

You couldn't just say the movie looks like shit or something. You had to call people douchebags for enjoying a decent crimeflick.

Picrel is worse. He was getting $5k a month from patreon and all he had to do was occasionally shit out a review. His lazy, emo ass couldn't even manage that.
>>
I got bored of RLM and stopped watching them a few years ago and just the other day started checking out their videos again. It's cool to see them still thriving with most videos getting around a million views. It looks like they've started finally doing reviews of iconic shit people have been asking them for years like the raimi spiderman movies and galaxy quest. They just put out a video on the crank movies a few weeks ago and i remember emailing mike like 15 years ago asking if they would do videos on the crank movies.

i don't even know what the fuck "prequel memes" are, when people use it like it's a term. i remember "DO NOT WANT" and so on.

liked the films. saw them all at the cinema. had a great time, rewatch the prequel trilogy once a year. simple as.
>>
>>220573854
It really is. While plinkett is a funny character and gimmick, the rest of their content are just really surface level discussions of movies. The most insight they have is Jay name dropping movie people he knows 99% won’t have ever heard of. I think their greatest asset is not caring about whatever the internet is currently shitting it’s pants over, which ironically probably makes them look like a breath of fresh air.

>>
>>220582758
Sure anon, but "when it was new" is a super specific context that only a people of a generational window can even remember.
In modern terms babyfigs could simply not comprehend the absolute HYPE TRAIN the phantom menace had. Not just with paid marketing, but the cultural juggernaut that the trilogy and the media universe build around it was at the time.
I was born the same year jedi came out. And really a lot of people were in shell shock or full cope mode over the flaws in the phantom menace (jar jar and baby anakin being easy targets to vent on). There was still a lot of hope in upward trajectory, but then attack of the clones is just kind of boring dour confused wheel spinning until the space battle at the end that can set up the last movie.
Sith at least paid off on action and adventure, even if its also kind of dumb and confused wheel spinning until it can place all the characters exactly where they will be until we see them almost 20 years later in ANH.
Also it spawned a generation of obnoxious light saber kiddies who just wanted to see mindless action with glow-stick weapons of EVERY variety.
Lightsaber nunchucks? They exist.
Lightsaber tonfa? Yup.
Light saber Spears? loads of em mate
Light sabers with light sabers built in them? Sure, why the fuck not!
Once you open the door there's no turning back and soon you have bleach in space with a rave aesthetic.
>>
>>220575982
>which made them look good by comparison
Nah, they're pretty terrible in their own ways, but the force awakens was at least passable.
>>
>>220583062
Making a bad version of a new hope is considered passable
lol
>>
>>220583096
It is, because it had the potential to make the series at least entertaining. The problem is they had no plan for a trilogy as a whole, they started throwing shit at the wall to see what stuck, and we ended up with the other two clownshows. At least the Prequels were a well orchestrated carnival of diarrhea.

>Making a bad version of a new hope is considered passable
No, but if you're trying to reset your franchise its not an awful way to start. And just like star trek 09 a lot of its flaws could be passable as long as the next installment manages to solidify the franchise and do its own thing.
In trek we got Into Darkness as a follow up, and for star wars we got the last jedi. Both of which were deeply unsatisfying to fans or members of a new audience because they're dumb bad messy movies that think they're going to get the same benefit of the doubt that the reboot had when really that is the movie that MUST stick the landing.
>>
