Do the throne room scenes redeem the movie from its weaker elements?
>>
would whip cream redeem a pile a shit?

>He calls him young Skywalker because Vader is old Skywalker
K I N O
I'm SORRY George

What was his tax policy

Ian's performance as Palpatine is excellent, but the writing in these scenes is retarded. The entire conceit of the sequence is Palpatine trying to tempt Luke to the dark side, but he has nothing to tempt Luke with, so there's no real tension about Luke turning.

Theyre just as bad
>Now you will be my apprentice Luke, you will join me...or I will kill your friends!
>You would do that anyway Palpatine, I'm not joining you
>Oh yes you will...you will be my new apprentice from now on
>Vader: I'm right here

The tension comes from the fact that we know he was able to turn Luke's father/that Luke is trying to turn his father back. The prequels kneecapped this by revealing that Anakin was always a psychopath and turned because he had bad dreams. If only Sheev remembered, he could have given Luke bad dreams too.

I never really got this arguement, why does it matter if he doesn't really tempt him with anything? If he doesn't join him he's just going to kill him he doesn't really care about turning him that much. In empire strikes back he just wants vader to take him out right away until vader has a father moment and tries to argue he can be turned. He just wants to torment this little twerp for a little bit and toy with him

Reminder that The Chosen One wasn’t ‘sent’ by the Force and the Force doesn’t ‘need’ balancing. The Force IS Balance. It was Sheev who pulled The Chosen One out of the Force. And Balance was what everyone got. I’m just glad he’s back safe in heaven, dead, where he belongs

Palpie gets everything

Analin wasnt a psychopath, he always retaliated in equal balanced force, even if he came to violence due to the extremity of a larger situation, and all his actions again the Jedi as Vader were expressions of self-harm, destroying the man he once was and occasionally is
>>
One of George's worst changes is making Vader be like "nooooooooo" when Sheev is zapping Luke
>>
>>220579496
Like the Jedi were too late to find Anakin for the start of his Jedi curriculum, Sheev was too late to find Luke, but both had to try anyway

this is an OT thread saar you can take your slop and fanfiction elsewhere

>If he doesn't join him he's just going to kill him
That doesn't create any real narrative tension because we know Luke isn't going to die. It's not that kind of a movie.

star wars is a kids film, no kids films have real tension

Yes, I’ve seen the Plinkett reviews too.

He’s offering Luke a chance to end his life and save his friends…but he has to fight through one of the most powerful Dark Jedi to ever live to get to him, and he’s going to have to tap into his Dark Side to do it. Turning Luke has been their goal since Empire. Palpatine knows that he’s not getting any younger, so he’s willing to lay down his own life for the sake of creating a new Sith.

The entire Death Star 2 thing was a trap to lure the Rebels in so that Luke would have the temptation to turn to the Dark Side in desperation to save them, and Luke told him to get fucked, because he has enough faith in his friends to get it done without him.

Are you worried that Spider-Man is actually going to die in any of his movies?

>Palpatine knows that he’s not getting any younger, so he’s willing to lay down his own life for the sake of creating a new Sith
What?

There's not tension about Luke turning because we know Luke isn't going to turn. It's not that kind of a movie.

>The final battle between Luke and Sheev is one of philosophy where they argue over the soul of Anakin akin to Faust

It's the best part of the entire trilogy

Arguably the only "weak element" in jedi is Han and Leia standing in front of the door for 30 minutes while all the other story lines are peaking in action and drama. If they had some actual business to do, or those scenes just got cut, it would have tightened everything else up.
But you can't do that after the fact because story wise you need them to open the door at the last minute so the shields can come down.
Everything else in the movie is solid and iconic. The opening act rescuing han from Jabba's palace, and the sail barge is top tier cinematic fantasy action adventure, and its basically a distilled movie in itself.
The briefing with the rebels, and the infiltration of endor are all great. The speeder chase through endor is a solid set piece with some cool effects and a different setting to what we'd previously seen in the series.
All the stuff with luke, vader, and the emperor is classic cinema.
The space battle over endor was one of the most complicate effects shots ever attempted for YEARS.
Even the ground war on endor isn't that bad (yeah I said it).
