In hindsight, Sopranos avoided the exact same issue that plagued shows like The Boys or even Breaking Bad to some extent.

Last season is dreary and depressing but mostly because Chase absolutely hated his fanbase and did everything he could to make Tony as insufferable and evil as possible. Luckily he was retard wrangled from the dumbest decisions but if he were to make Sopranos today or anyone else, Tony would quickly become some sort of Trump stand-in or other political strawman to poke fun at.
