I remember this being insanely popular when it came out. Now it's mostly forgotten. What happened?

What happened in 1997?

some fat kid is spamming threads about it so you can enjoy those between now and when he either kills himself or they cut his diabetes-rotted foot off in a couple of years and releases his mom and the rest of us from a heavy (lol) burden

Disaster movies aren't popular now

I remember back in my day the horse and carriage was insanely popular. Now it's all these newfangled auto-mobile cars. What the hell happened?

>Don't tell him to shut up!
>You'd all be dead now if it wasn't for my David!
>None of you did anything to prevent this!
>Aaaggghhh don't gimme unprepared!
>You had the ship crash in the 50s and you had them all locked up in a bunker, right?
>Area 51! Right? Area 51!
>You knew then! And you did nothing...
it was kino of the decade and the peak of summer blockbusters, glad I was 10 years old so i could enjoy it fully.

I remember I went to see when it opened in theaters because I was fooled by the teaser trailer.
The teaser trailer makes it look like a serious artsy alien invasion movie like they had in the 70s and 80s.
If I ever meet Roland Emmerich in the street I will punch his head in.

I saw it in theaters on opening week. I was 7 at the time. Being a kid in the 90s was fucking peak.

It was a pg-13 movie but action blockbusters were for whole families. That's how they made so much money theirs wide appeal. This movie didn't age too great but it's still fun just a lot of corniness too
