Dream/hallucination scenes are the lowest form of storytelling.
>>220581560Was he gay, OP?
>>220581560better than time travelling, that's for sure
>>220581560I generally agree but Sopranos is an exception
>>220581560I take it you didn't like this weeks Drama Queen chapter then?
some of them were pretty bad>oh my God... that dog in my dream... it was TONY
>>220581608Idk, time travel sucks dick 90% of the times due to execution. It's more of a plot device that you can side-step as common tv/film bullshit used to move a story. Dream scenes are more of a choice about how to tell a story, they are very intrusive. Both things suck, but they are used differently.
The most successful series in history has a lot of these sequences. Sounds like you are wrong
>>220581560wrong.
>>220581560But dreams are real manifestions of your desires and emotions?
>>220581560Reddit show
>>220581560It Was All A Dream is simultaneously the best AND worst trope of all time. Worst because of how it's often used as an excuse for lazy storytelling and best because it really IS all a dream. It's the most meta trope.
>>220581560>hick poets playing around with photomontage You can see why we had to keep such lookout on these rubes. Nearly laughed till i pissed myself, talking about ‘filmmaking’, ha! Like chargin a regiment of tanks with a defective slingshot
>>220582128This.
>>220581560Voiceover journaling scenes are worse
>>220581560Untruehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyNtMpPYF8k
Disagree, they are the most kino way of storytelling
kino
Seven Souls opening to s6 is the best l, the actual book its from is terrifying with a sense of very pathetic humor
>>220582128That's some ugly fucking carpet. What's with the shitsmear job?
What are /tv/'s thoughts on this?
>>220581560It makes the show become sci fi or whatever. Gay as fuck.
>>220581560I dont mind a 30 second dream sequence but those hour long dream episodes are a fucking chore on rewatches
>>220581608The moment a setting introduces time travel/alternate timelines it means it has creatively run out of ideas, unless you're some science fiction writer like GRRM who intentionally and carefully weaves it into your fantasy story.
>>220581608And even that is still better than multiverse slop
>>220583197Dreams are real retard
>>220581608absolutely not
Time travel and dream prediction is real though
>>220581560Maybe, but the dream/hallucination scenes and episodes were the best part of Sopranos.
>>220581560normal words but a mob guy
>>220583808Agreed. The pussy = a fish scene is the best dream scene ever put in a story just because it actually isnt some epic revalation showing crazy new information to Tony... he just finally accepts what had been obvious for a while, what his subconcious had been screaming at him for months: that his best friend betrayed him. Its so fucking good.Anyways, 4 dollars a pound
>>220581560>Dream/hallucination scenes are the lowest form of storytelling. Why?
>>220583351retard moron simpleton airhead loser
>>220581560>dream is in third personWhat are we seeing?
>>220581560...and flashbacks which plague so many tv shows and movies.
>>220584048Tony watching the film of his own life in his subconscious
>>220584062Clueless linear man. How often can you expect to know someone’s backstory before they have an episode in real life? You’re lucky when you do and learning it later is usually how its done
>>220583335maybe zoomers lost the ability to dream due to being hooked up on antidepressants and hrt
>>220584276Its happened to me at times. Its important to stay in touch with your own thoughts and collective conscience but drinking before bed doesnt help either lol
>>220581588that's my image why are you using it
>>220581560that's why plebbitors claim tons of films "are all a dream" because to them it makes it comforting and palatable.
>>220581560Making shitty threads is the lowest form of storytelling
>>220583301DBZ did it best.
No way
>>220582651>Have a vision of the Virgin Mary.>Be a highly superstitious person.>Change nothing about your life.
>>220581560Given that so much of the Sopranos’ themes derive from the psychology and mental states of the characters, it makes perfect sense to use dream sequences. Plus, they actually put effort into exploring Tony’s psyche and subconscious, and aren’t just used as another way to provide another mystery box for the audience like most shows that use them . I will say they went overboard from Season 5’s Test Dream, immediately followed by the coma dream episodes in the beginning of Season 6, but there was a two year gap between them, which at the time was uncommonly long, so it might not have seemed so egregious.
>>220584646He apologized to his mom dude and maybe even flipped against tony, did you even watch the show?
>>220584667Its funny that you post Sopranos since its widely considered THE best example of dream scenes>they actually put effort into exploring Tony’s psyche and subconscious, and aren’t just used as another way to provide another mystery boxDream sequences are based when used like this.
>>220584667David Chase has read and loves author William S Burroughs and included the Seven Souls spoken word musical remix with Bill Laswell’s band Material in the opening of season 6 (the voice speaking is Burroughs himself, and the meaning behind it is very fatal and sad). Its Surrealism and Collective consciousness. A force that drives the show. Ask me anything about the show and i will apply this lens as I have found it
>>220584646One of the themes of the show is lots of characters wanting to change their lives on some level but being too lazy. They don’t know how to put work into anything so they’re all just stuck spinning their wheels and being violent parasites
>>220584902Plus the people who really want to get out and can, get murdered because we dont abide rats around here! Clean your slate will you? Not in my house!
>>220583976Tell don't show.
>>220581608this unless it's Terminator or Slaughterhouse Five
>>220585070There are plenty others we just live in a world drenched in palatable pop
>>220584945>bark bark barkGo wash your ass.
>>220584932This. There is a certain amount of crabs in the bucket going on.
>>220581560I liked most of the dream sequences.
