Dream/hallucination scenes are the lowest form of storytelling.

I generally agree but Sopranos is an exception

I take it you didn't like this weeks Drama Queen chapter then?

some of them were pretty bad

Idk, time travel sucks dick 90% of the times due to execution. It's more of a plot device that you can side-step as common tv/film bullshit used to move a story. Dream scenes are more of a choice about how to tell a story, they are very intrusive. Both things suck, but they are used differently.
>>
The most successful series in history has a lot of these sequences. Sounds like you are wrong

It Was All A Dream is simultaneously the best AND worst trope of all time. Worst because of how it's often used as an excuse for lazy storytelling and best because it really IS all a dream. It's the most meta trope.

>hick poets playing around with photomontage
You can see why we had to keep such lookout on these rubes. Nearly laughed till i pissed myself, talking about ‘filmmaking’, ha! Like chargin a regiment of tanks with a defective slingshot

What are /tv/'s thoughts on this?
>>
>>220581560
It makes the show become sci fi or whatever. Gay as fuck.
>>
>>220581560
I dont mind a 30 second dream sequence but those hour long dream episodes are a fucking chore on rewatches
>>
>>220581608
The moment a setting introduces time travel/alternate timelines it means it has creatively run out of ideas, unless you're some science fiction writer like GRRM who intentionally and carefully weaves it into your fantasy story.
>>
>>220581608
And even that is still better than multiverse slop

Dreams are real retard

absolutely not

Time travel and dream prediction is real though
>>
>>220581560
Maybe, but the dream/hallucination scenes and episodes were the best part of Sopranos.

>>
>>220583808
Agreed. The pussy = a fish scene is the best dream scene ever put in a story just because it actually isnt some epic revalation showing crazy new information to Tony... he just finally accepts what had been obvious for a while, what his subconcious had been screaming at him for months: that his best friend betrayed him. Its so fucking good.

Anyways, 4 dollars a pound

Clueless linear man. How often can you expect to know someone’s backstory before they have an episode in real life? You’re lucky when you do and learning it later is usually how its done

that's why plebbitors claim tons of films "are all a dream" because to them it makes it comforting and palatable.

Given that so much of the Sopranos’ themes derive from the psychology and mental states of the characters, it makes perfect sense to use dream sequences. Plus, they actually put effort into exploring Tony’s psyche and subconscious, and aren’t just used as another way to provide another mystery box for the audience like most shows that use them .

I will say they went overboard from Season 5’s Test Dream, immediately followed by the coma dream episodes in the beginning of Season 6, but there was a two year gap between them, which at the time was uncommonly long, so it might not have seemed so egregious.
>>
>>220584646
He apologized to his mom dude and maybe even flipped against tony, did you even watch the show?
>>
>>220584667
Its funny that you post Sopranos since its widely considered THE best example of dream scenes

>they actually put effort into exploring Tony’s psyche and subconscious, and aren’t just used as another way to provide another mystery box

Dream sequences are based when used like this.

David Chase has read and loves author William S Burroughs and included the Seven Souls spoken word musical remix with Bill Laswell’s band Material in the opening of season 6 (the voice speaking is Burroughs himself, and the meaning behind it is very fatal and sad). Its Surrealism and Collective consciousness. A force that drives the show. Ask me anything about the show and i will apply this lens as I have found it
>>
>>220584646
One of the themes of the show is lots of characters wanting to change their lives on some level but being too lazy. They don’t know how to put work into anything so they’re all just stuck spinning their wheels and being violent parasites
>>
>>220584902
Plus the people who really want to get out and can, get murdered because we dont abide rats around here! Clean your slate will you? Not in my house!
