These are just some movie licenced games that are better than the movies they are based on. Video games take these cool concepts and put YOU directly into those worlds without any limits. You BECOME the protagonist of the story. That level of interaction and immersion is unmatched. Discuss.
>>220584450The Mad Max game is definitely not better.
King Kong game was absolute kino. Kind of wish it ran smoother on modern PCs
>>220584633I agree although it's a really good and underrated game
sometimes you just want passive entertainment, a moviegames are fun but active entertainment
>>220584723The letterboxd film buff types don't view movies as passive entertainment, they are completely invested in the worst arthouse trash you've never heard of
The only one I've played is Alien Isolation, which is a fantastic game and simultaneously one of the best licensed games I've ever played, and one of the best horror games. But it's not nearly as good as the first Alien movie.
>>220584450That King Kong game was a HUGE deal when it came out, but has since been forgotten. Perhaps I should replay it, loved it back then. I remember an angry letter in a video game magazine I read back then from a guy who was pissed that Peter Jackson had poached Michel Ancel to make the King Kong game which delayed Ancel from making Beyond Good & Evil 2. IIRC he wrote something like "I should've been playing Beyond Good & Evil 2 with a big smile on my face right now, instead he went on to make King Kong and I have to wait another year for the new Beyond Good & Evil!!!". yeah about that, bro...lollmao
>>220584691It's alright but tends to get overrated by people that look for underrated games.
>>220584827A lot of passion went into that King Kong game. It wasn't a throwaway title like most movie tie-in games were. It's cool that Peter Jackson was really invested in the development of it.
>>220584633>>220584691Mad Max game was based on Mad Max: The Wasteland script. George Miller got furious they used his ideas even after the game was abandoned by him. You can see some of the same stuff in Furiosa and his official comic book Mad Max: Fury Road: Max.
>>220584450I depends entirely on what movie.Horror? Sure.Action? Sure.Drama? Almost certainly not.
>>220584450Game is not restricted by 2-3 hours runtime.Indiana Jones game was great but wouldnt work as a movie. Too much going on.
>>220586775OP said there are no limits
>>220584827The King Kong game was genuinely such a fuckin gem. Extremely underrated game. You can tell that a lot of heart was actually put into it, it wasn't just a quick cash grab. Damn now I wanna replay it kek
>>220584691I absolutely loved the Mad Max game. I was really surprised at how good it was, because I remember going into it not expecting much. One of the few games that I 100%Usually, I get bored of games pretty quickly but I just really enjoyed the setting and atmosphere. Plus the gameplay and progression mechanics were perfectly addicting
>>220584450Based. They also can take 20x as long for the story and events, can go as slow or fast as you want, can be way scarier since YOU are evading the monsters and making dumb mistakes. Also, Robocop Rogue City was a good successor to the original movie and Terminator Resistance was the best depiction of the Future War ever made. Far superior to any movie after the first two.
>>220584791It's scarier than all the Alien movies combined. Regardless, it makes a perfect trilogy with the first two. It bridges the gap between the two and helps explain why no one found the derelict on LV-426 since Marlow turned off the beacon. It makes sense that Ripley's daughter would be a spacer and trying to find out what happened to her mother. It expands the lore with other companies for once. Now they're going to shit on that with a sequel though by having Amanda fight the aliens all over the place.
If anybody wants to play the King Kong vidya, it recently had a patch that removed that retarded DRM from ages ago. Just torrent from here and playhttps://archive.org/details/king_20251110

>>220584663>>220584827>>220584968>>220587335>>220587771>>220587790I love the King Kong game because it feels like a companion piece to the film rather than just a tie-in
>>220584450Riddick is the only one in that pic that has a better game than movie and Alien the only one to have good of both. The rest are pure dogshit videogames.
>>220584450KEK no. Most video games based on movies or comic books have been consistently shit. I can agree on video games being a form of art that represent contemporary culture well enough but that by no means mean it´s a superior art form. In fact it is questionable to consider contemporary culture as a step forward at all. One could even argue that it´s been a step backwards disguised as progress. Some games are pretty solid but i´ve yet to see a game that´s par with the best cinematographic or even animated masterpieces. Furthermore video games are no longer in their infancy so they can´t still be judged as such but when the training wheels are taken off 90% of games, specially new games, fall short of the potential games have as an art form. It is somewhat disappointing to see. Almost as if the art form was in open decadence already.
>>220587124No limits for games. I could spend like 100 hours playing GTA San Andreas 20 years ago and still didnt 100% it. Movies are limited by runtime.
>>220588275gay
>>220586401You don't want to see a Glengarry Glen Ross video game?
>>220584450Just compare the opening 2 minutes of Raiders to the 10 minute long recreation in that Indiana Jones game. The movie has actual emotion in it, it's tense and has a humorous uneasy feeling. The video game has nothing, it is just a robotic recreation without any of the fundamentals like immersive sound effects or intelligent use of music.
>>220588842It works both ways. Compare how awful The Last of Us TV show is in terms of direction, cinematography and acting compared to the games.
>>220588842I agree the opening of the game isn't great. The rest is absolutely exceptional though. Wondering around the cobbled streets and chapels of the Vatican, exploring the desert tombs of Egypt, traversing the jungles of Thailand. You feel like you're in the world of the movies and transported back to that age of adventure. Plus, there are many great moments that rival the films. This entire sequence is better than any of the films.https://youtu.be/XuzAqKb2unk?si=KTjrbey6Uy5rTjHP
i liked Spider-Man 2 on the GameCube. even the tutorial level with Bruce Campbell is enjoyable.the Thor DS game looks good? pixel art Golden Axe/Metal Slug type game, probably lost out by being a tie-in rather than its own game (or some modern indie game)
>2D sidescroller with no story and 1-3 characters>more emotion than the big cinematic follow-upjust let me control the character and play the game, please.
>>220584827>I have to wait another year for the new Beyond Good & Evil!!!Kek
>>220584450>assault on dark athena instead of escape from butcher bay
>>220588136>Wolverine movie better than Wolverine gameYou've either never played it or you're completely retarded.
>>220584450Don't look up interviews with the IndiACKa Jones developers.
Terminator was better as a game than all the recent movies
>>220591786both movie and games are DOGSHIT
>>220584450I recently beat Cyberpunk 2077 for the first time and I really liked the story and the characters.
>>220593205the movie is better
>>220590575Isn't 2 dead in the water? The last we heard of it was at e3 2017.
>>220584450All of those are doghsit except Indy, OP
>>220591839The game genuinely isn't woke at all. That was a big worry I had going into it and I ended up being pleasantly surprised.
>>220594064King Kong, Mad Max and Alien Isolation are excellent
I also liked Robocop: Rogue City and Terminator: Resistance. It's a bit jank, but it's a very soulful jank.
>>220591839>4chan got triggered when the devs said you can punch Nazis in this game, something that Indy's been doing since his inceptionYou guys are a riot.
>>220594859Lol no>>220594859>Robocop: Rogue City and Terminator: Resistancethese two are what good games based on movies look like
>>220595139>look, mom. I'm making up shit again!
>>220594859Agreed. Based opinion
