I want a faithful adaptation god dammit, not watered down Spielberg kidslop.
I was so disappointed when I saw the movie and the dinosaurs weren't singing and dancing like in the book.
>>220586444Spielberg adaptation is kino and the current Zeitgeist makes it impossible for any possible faithful adaptation of this novel being made
>>220586444If HBO or someone else made a 1 season series faithful to the book it would be pure KINO
>>220586444okay anon, lets say we make the kino for you. are you ackchully gonna pay the money to see it in theaters?
>>220586518>the current Zeitgeist makes it impossiblewhy
>>220586553cowardice. just like why anything else is "impossible".
>>220586553The main plotline is about a dinosaur minstrel show starring the genetically engineered Niggosaurus Rex.
>>220586530HBO hasn't produced anything good in over a decade anon
>>220586444>CrichtonslopFuck that
>>220586444you're retarded lmao, imagine trying to monkey paw this
>>2205864441st movie was fine. Swapping the kids' age and roles was weird, but everything else was pretty faithful. 2nd movie is abysmal though, I want a faithful adaptation for that book.
>>220586444The book gets stupid towards the end, hunting the dinosaurs with rocket launchers is straight out of a bad 80s Cannon film.
>Dr. Grant, do you, uh...do you know what they call a gay dinosaur?>No, Malcom. But I'm sure you're going to tell me.>They call it Mega SORE ass!How did Chrichton get away with this?
Even the part where they blow up a raptor with a rocket launcher?
>>220586444You realize, that the book was written after the screenplay?Like the screenplay is the original version, the book is an adaptation of the screenplay. Fucking Secondaries.
>>220586845Your half right, that was the case for The Lost World not the first book
>>220586444>I want le GRITTY and ADULT dinosaur movie! Are you 12?
>>220586845https://michaelcrichton.com/works/jurassic-park/It was always Crichton's work and the first movie came after the novel. >>220586882Also what this anon said.
>>220586845>You realize, that the book was written after the screenplay?Based, starting with "you realize," is the *chef's kiss*
>>220586675It's really not though, most firearms would not be terribly effective against large dinosaurs.
>>220586845That's not true. At all. You're the secondary.
>>220586882>Your half right, that was the case for The Lost World not the first bookand it added a lot more cooler shit than the movie, i want chameleon carnotaurus
>>220586932>only kids can like dinosaursGood thing niggers like you are too dumb to be academics or we'd never know anything about them.
>>220586530>9 episodes of Grant digging up bones, Hammond buying up amber, Nedry typing on a computer.>They finally go to Jurassic Park(tm) at the end of the 10th episode.>Come back for Season 2 of Jurassic Park(tm) in 2032!>Series cancelled two weeks later.
>>220586444JP 93 is not that good of a movie desu. great effects yes, but it feels like it sudedly ends.
>>220586444As soon as Musk gets his solar powered orbital AI data centers up and running, and we’ll be able to prompt feature length films or TV series, I’m already planning on a book-faithful 8-episode HBO-style miniseries as directed by James Cameron circa 1992. Also on the agenda:>Freddy vs Jason vs Ash based on the comic, directed by Sam Raimi, and with Robert Englund Freddy, Kane Hodder Jason, and 90s Bruce Campbell as Ash. It’s tragic how fucking close we came to that being a reality, but it fell through because New Line didn’t want Ash to kill Freddy and Jason, even though he would clearly be the good guy in that scenario, and they would be able to shrug it off as a one-off afterward anyway.>The Silmarillion as an anthology series in the style of Jim Henson’s Storyteller, narrated by Ian McKellen Gandalf>A panel-for-panel faithful adaptation of Berserk with animation on the level of Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, so it’s really fluid, but still has that 90s cel animation grit.>The Dark Tower as a proper series. Again as a HBO style series with Viggo Mortensen as Roland, Steve from Stranger Things as Eddie, Zoe Saldana as Susannah, Rip Torn as the Crimson King, James Cromwell as Pere Callahan, and Tim Curry as Randall Flagg
>>220586845There was a bidding war for the movie rights, which Cameron narrowly missed out on in favor of Spielberg. I think the novel came out in 89.
Starship Troopers is another book that needs a faithful adaptation. And I actually liked the movie, but Verhoeven was just doing his own thing which is fine. As a fan of the book as well I would like to see a proper adaptation. .
>>220587024People used to hunt elephants with 7mm Mauser, 5.56 would make quick work of the small ones and few dudes with .308s and shotguns would kill a T-Rex no problem considering it has big, fat, hard to miss lungs that it needs to breathe. A couple of .458 Win Mag bolt actions wouldn't be a bad idea either.
>>220587062One shows up as a boss in the arcade game. It was pretty badass.
>>220586641This. The film does a great deal to elevate the book, which is a miserable little airport novel. The main changes to a book accurate depiction would be to replace the sense of wonder with a dreary atmosphere, crank up the gore and the suffering involved in each death to exploitation genre flick levels, and make each character as unlikeable as possible. Like every character Crichton ever wrote.
>>220587396Uh-huh. You’re selling me on it even more.
>>220587196You realize we all have access to the internet here?
>>220586444What are the major difference? They made the girl older and less annoying. They cut the teradactly cage and put it on pt 3. They cut the boat chase and put it JW 5 .
i dropped the book and the movie at the same time. When that cringe math guy was introduced
>>220587674They ignored how the velociraptor were extremely viscous and had the intelligence of pack animals but had no real hierarchy because they were just brought into the world and had nobody to discipline them and teach them. We see that when they tear apart a baby velociraptor and when Grant kills one with an egg.
>>220587735We really need a tv show with every death from the book
>>220587162my dark tower casting has tom jane as roland and walton goggins as flagg
>>220586444>Not posting the better novel>And movie, despite not being anything like the novel
>>220586518>the current Zeitgeist makes it impossible for any possible faithful adaptationtbf even back then Spielberg turned the girl into the computer whiz instead of the boy
>>220587396What empty headed little redditor babble you're spewing.
>>220587674The book was darker and more graphically violent. Cameron said that if he had made the movie it would have been similar to Aliens. The John Hammond character was completely different and had different motivations, he wasn't a kindly well-meaning old man in the book, he was a stereotypical evil businessman looking to make as much money as possible at any cost. There were a lot more dinosaurs. A lot of stuff was just left out due to budgetary concerns and the limits of CGI at the time.
>>220586553In the books, Elli Sattler is like 17-years-old, and Alan, her teacher, bangs her.
I agree with OP. Hollywood seems set on squeezing everything they can out of this franchise, they should at least make things interesting and do a reboot that properly adapts the novel.
>>220588007Why is Ian Malcolm alive despite very clearly dying in the first book?
>>220588405His eyes were just resting okay
>>220588405This question isn't why, but how. The answer is retcons.
>>220587024Dinosaurs are just animals.Poachers from 3rd Word shithole are very good at killing large elephants.Do you really think that they could sustain several rocket launchers direct hits like in Dino Crisis 2 ?
>>220588405They just replaced him with another jew, Levine. Who was a totally based character delaying returning to the camp until he completely overlooked the Raptors sensing his candy and the actual "High Hide" being only 15ft high.
>>220588558Didn't Eddie also die from the raptors in the book?
Imagine if they showed the absolute horror that is what happens to Ed Regis
>>220586444I just want to see humans gun down the dinos. None of this tranquilizer bs, or Hammond hearing Grant fire his shotgun over the phone. It took until Rebirth to finally get what I want when Scarlett Johansson gunned down one of the dinos with a Glock and they actually showed it with blood and everything.
>>220588405The likely answer is that the book deviates from the movie: Spielberg opted for different leads. In the book, the lawyer was the bad ass main character, iirc. Malcolm was a nerd and died. Movie came out and it reframed the characters for Crichton and he opted to use Malcolm as the main guy in TLW. He could retcon it to ''I was technically dead for 10 minutes'' or some shit. It was fine as a solution; not really something that had to have much detail. In the movie he survived so bringing him back for a sequel movie was not going to be an issue, storywise.
>>220588673Well in JP3 they do bring a bunch of guys with guns and they all just instantly die
>>220588608Yeah, they pulled him from the high hide.
anyone has that /tv/ post where crichton behaves like a stereotypical jock and bully spielbierg into making jurassic park movie?
>>220588405Life finds a way
>>220586444No. We don't need Book Lex. NOBODY needs Book Lex.
>>220586845bullshitkill yourself,you walking turd loser
>>220586882No the screenplay was written before the book. The book was released before the movie. But the screenplay came first.
>>220588007The movie is 75% great, San Diego was just retarded and silly. Should have ended on the island.
>>220586530Well the dinos are already trannies but now they'll also be black
>>220586444lex in the book is annoying as fuckwhenever she says "play some pickle" i cringe
>>220589376Julianne Moore and Vince Vaughn were horrible casting choices. Also ignoring the black gymnast daughter. The only good parts in the 2nd movie were the 2 Trex pushing the RV scene. The Dino capture chase and the San Diego rampage. Any part with the main cast just sucked.
>>220587724He’s so much worse in the book. He gets to talk directly at the reader for entire pages on end, acting as the direct mouthpiece for the author, bizarre out of place Japanophilia and all. It’s difficult to slog through.
>>220586444The most interesting part about the book, in my opinion, was where they talked about biochem start-ups setting up shop in impoverished countries because they can buy out governments. In the US, that's basically West Virginia.
>>220586618I liked the leftovers and that comes in at right about a decade
>>220588203I think the movie really improves the kids. Book Timmy is like this super genius who solves everything, and Lex is basically just an annoying screaming baby the entire time. Although one of my favorite parts of the books is the fake out of Lex getting eaten during the T-Rex attack. that shit was stomach-curling the first time I read it.
>>220589625I liked Crichton's mouthpiece though
>>220590370>the fake out of Lex getting eaten during the T-Rex attackI don't remember this at all. I do remember the waterfall scene though.
>>220586951>It was always Crichton's work and the first movie came after the novel.Spielberg actually heard about the book at a party, and bought the film rights off Chrichton before he was done writing the script (which is a big reason why the endings diverge so much). I think the book and the movie are both great, and over the sequels they've tried to repurpose a lot of unused stuff from the first book. Unfortunately my favorite part of the book, Muldoon and Genaro broing it up as they drive around the park trying to wrangle dinosaurs back into their paddock and look for survivors.
>>220588544well in real life...an RPG-7 does 6d6 damage (AOE) (Reflex save for half)a Tyrannosaurus Rex has 18d8+99 hit points.so yes it would most likely take multiple rockets to take down a t rex.
>>220590450It's from Grant's perspective in the other car. Lex is screaming in the middle of the road, T-Rex bends down to bite at something, the screaming stops, and the T-Rex is chewing on something, but because of the rain Grant can't see exactly what it is. Heavily implied that it's Lex, but still ambiguous enough. Then the chapter ends and we switch over to the visitor center. We find out like a chapter later that she's ok.
>>220588641its so satisfying in the book
>>220586444The book is fucking lame.
>>220590370Lex was so annoying Little brat in need of correction Uohhhh
>>220588673>I just want to see humans gun down the dinos. None of this tranquilizer bsThat's a plot point in the book. Muldoon demanded that they have some heavier weapons, he was told to fuck off because each one of those dinosaurs was worth tens of millions of dollars. The compromise was they gave him that bartoli shotgun, and a missile launcher that could shoot tranquilizer rockets.
>>220590520Guess I'll need to re-read. Would have been based if Lex died. She was overly annoying in the book.
>>220590494It's been a long time since I read it, but don't they actually get the park back online and everything wrapped up fairly efficiently after Nedry's sabotage? But then realize everything is running on backup power about 10 minutes before it goes out a day or so later and all hell breaks loose.
>>220589376You can nevwr say that when fucking Ian and Sarah exist and just get away with killing dozens of men.
>>220590767lol yes, it's great. If I remember correctly, it actually makes things worse than Nedry's sabotage because more systems go down.
>>220590767Yeah, they didn't realize they needed to reboot the power system because they never had to do it before.
>>220586444The Lost world was the better book and the 2nd movie follows it closer except for that bastardized ending.
>>220590526He did nothing wrong though
>>220586482Kek
>>220586843ESPECIALLY that part.
>>220590834>and the 2nd movie follows it closerKek
>>220590767Some workmen find what's left of Nedry when they're out fixing the fences too. It's a little bit of a plot point because he stole the Jeep with the rocket launcher stashed in it and they can't bring down the T. rex without it.
>>220589580This. 70 percent of the movie was annoying people shouting over each other in the woods. One thing I always liked about Spielberg was how the delivery of dialogue feels natural and like it's being spoken by real people, but he just really whiffed it with that one. Everyone is obnoxious as hell in that movie, and Jeff Goldblum is basically a bobble headed Pez dispenser who would occasionally tilt his head back, and a trailer line would come out of his neck hole. >"Mommy is very angry."Shut the fuck up. Picture a scenario where you're trapped in your car, and there is a grizzly bear trying to get in. Are you going to be saying some corny shit like that? Fuck no, you'd probably either be screaming in horror or frozen stiff with terror not knowing what to do.

>>220590767They throught they fixed it but didn't realize the park was on emergency power after the reset and things go wrong again they had to to the shed that was near the raptors for some reason

>>220586444the story of the book is a shitty action flickthe movie is billions of times better

>>220586444Such a white franchise. We'll have to change that.
>>220595509The cartoon has you covered, sister.
There are probably more deaths in the book than in the movie but it never felt as threatening to me. Maybe because all the InGen staff is still on the island and they restore order like halfway through the book.

one of the most overrated movies of all time
>>220586444Most of the changes were improvements. The way Hammond dies is stupid and the entire ending is shit. As is the whole tracking system shenanigans.

I'd prefer .308 like a FAL, but you just need to penetrate bone and flesh mass to hit internals and people hunt elephants with AKs even if it is sloppy.
>>220599382the book is great I love how alien the dinosaurs are they are terrifying
>>220599429Man the Carnosaur scene from JP2 book was great. I wish he leaned even more into the horror aspects
>chapters and chapters of Regis being toyed with by a baby T-Rex Fucking horrifying
>>220586444The only problem is Lex will be annoying as fuck
The only thing the book did better was show how the dinosaurs had started escaping before Alan and co. ever set a foot on the island, as they were already showing up in Puerto Rico. But in the movie it does work way better that you only show the dinosaurs at the park
>>220597027>The way Hammond dies is stupid and the entire ending is shit.
