I remember meeting Norm once. It was back in 2003, at a high school reunion of the local high school where my mother attended, College du Bergerac or something but I'm probably misremembering.I remember him coming up to me and he says "you know, your mom used to a real firecracker. A real piece of work, if you don't mind me saying". He looked at me and laughed heartily, like an old uncle you see on Thanksgiving. Then he sat down and said "come sit next to me and let me regale you some of my old memories". Maybe it was just the nostalgia of the moment or because he saw some of his youthful innocence in me but this guy took a shine to me. He then went on a long tangent about his time at college du Bergerac and the wild things him and his gang of fellows would get into back then. About how my mom punched out a boy for looking him all funny like. And how they eventually all drifted apart because of the passage of time sparing no one, you know the kind of stories these old timey folk tend to get into. At some point he stands up and he says to me, he has "I'm sorry kid but I'm going to get some more punch, this gabbing is leaving me mightily thirsty". He didn't look like he was particularly thirsty, so I asked him why he had to go right now and couldn't finish his story. He looks at me and says "look kid, sometime there is just no punch line".
