Why did Kevin Smith's later movies never capture the charm of Clerks?
>>
Clerks 2 was fucking kino, it would have ended the series on a high note if he stopped there. Too bad MCU slop and tons of weed ruined Smith's way of thinking and creted abysmal dogshit like Clerks 3.

>Clerks 2 was fucking kino
Nah the biggest mistake was filming it with standard high quality Hollywood equipment
It should've been shitty black and white like the first movie
It just turned it into forgettable schlock
>>
Because Clerks was just him trying to make a movie on his own. Mallrats still has some of it but it feels more like a studio film

Clerks 2 didn't recapture a single aspect of the original. It's a completely different film shot in a completely different style with different writing, pacing, comedy style, pretty much everything. Clerks was the ultimate Gen X slacker comedy while Clerks 2 was a tryhard attempt at competing with cringe Seth Rogan movies.

Because when you shoot a movie with actual budget all the amateur stuff in it is much more jarring.

People who smoke weed can never make fun of stoners as well as those who do. Once he started token his work too a nosedive to tainttown

Copout is where it all went down hill

Apparently Bruce really really hurt Kevin Smith's feefees when they were making this. Bruce does seem like he'd be a complete asshole in real life, he has that energy
>>

It was actually Zac and Miri that broke him. He expected even just a moderate success because of Seth Rogen starring in it but it did poorly and he gave up. That's when he started smoking weed and only appealing to people who listen to all his podcasts.

Staying hungry is essential and if there's one thing Kevin Smith no longer was after 'Clerks', it's hungry.

Zac and Miri got middling reviews. 65% from critics, 66% from fans
Copout got 18% from critics and 39% from fans
He went from a C student to an F student

I've never even heard of that

>>220604104
I've been thinking about this in regards to life. The one thing we are constantly doing is seeking comfort and improvement in our conditions, but that seems to only make us worse, our worth seems closely related to how difficult we have life
>>

bruce was probably an asshole and cop out came at a career slump, he probably really didn't want to be there, nor did he see a young guy like smith as equal.
>>220604061
jersey girl broke him, which is a shame because it's not that bad. melodramatic and schmaltzy, but i'm not sure why he's as embarrassed about it as he is
>>
>>220606993
he just kind of realized at a certain point that he has no talent, and it robbed him of his will to live
>>
>>220601863
he became a stoner while making zack and miri, got permanent brain damage and never recovered
>>
>>220601863
i wish he would just write and produce, and let someone else direct
he's even said he's not a good director
