Just got done watching David Lynch’s Dune. Does it suffer from horrible pacing that grossly compresses major story lines that end up completely ruining the themes of the book? Yes. Did I still have a good time watching it? Absolutely. The visuals, the score, and the casting are phenomenal. I think this movie captures the weirdness of the book better than the newer films, The Baron is wickedly incredible to watch on screen, I love the costumes and set design, this is closer to what I pictured when I read the book. It works well as its own thing, it’s a perfectly competent science fiction movie as long as you don’t expect a faithful adaptation. You can’t expect me not to love a movie thats got Toto and Brian Eno on the soundtrack, Patrick Stewart as Gurney Halleck, Sting as Feyd Rautha, and David Lynch directing it.
>>220603445I liked it too but the rock music for the final battle was too much for me. It somehow felt very cheap.
It's such a kick in the teeth that Jodo never got a shot, Lunch got robbed of his cut, and then they give Dishwater multiple movies.
>>220603501You have to embrace the space opera slop to really get it man.
>>220603600>space opera>no operaWhat did he lynch by this
>>220603650>rock opera
>>220603445It's funny that Rabban did more and was more important in the story but everyone only remembers Sting and no one knows that other dude's name
>>220603703>in space
>>220603445Lynch Dune is still relevant after more than 40 years, extremely memorable and iconic. The main theme alone makes it a top tier science fiction movieDUNC is the most soulless piece of shit to ever come out of the Dune setting I honestly don't understand how can people even watch that bland, colorless garbage for almost 3 hours. Every actor is basically sleepwalking through the entire thing because that's how fucking boring and soulless it is. Name one memorable quote or even character from Villeneuve movies, you literally can't. In fact the only lines I can actually remember are Walken's "WHO THIS MU A DIB COULD BE" and the sardaukar chant
>>220603720Sting was in the police forever, the other guy was not a superstar.
>>220603501>mfw some faggot near me says they don't like the toto score
>>220603720Rabban didn't wear leather panties in front of a smoke machine screaming I WILL KILL HIM!
>>220603445WE HAVE JUST FOLDED SPACE FROM IX
>>220603964Many machines on Ix
>>220603759>how fucking boring and soulless it is.This is every Villeneuve film. They're visually very boring.
>>220603759Not gonna lie it feels like Villeneuve made the whole trilogy so /tv/ posters could make le kino collage because that's the only thing I get from it
>>220603988Kino. Denis could never.
I'll give this a try eventually. I watched the first DUNC shortly after reading the book for the first time and it was dogshit, this can't possibly be worse.
>>220603759>Name one memorable quote or even character from Villeneuve movies, you literally can't. In fact the only lines I can actually remember are Walken's "WHO THIS MU A DIB COULD BE" and the sardaukar chantThe whole geidi prime segment in dunc 2 where it turns into a movie I'd rather be watching. It has a lot of individual shots that look nice, the photography isn't the problem of the movie. I just don't think the story, which despite having some heady serious themes, still managed to have a lot of adventure and fun - and the DUNC movie is just a dour 3 hour long perfume ad.
>>220603445Sting is one of my favorite musicians but a piss-poor actor. Bowie was awful as well, but it doesn't really matter because people just think its cool to see a musician in their kino. Doesn't work the other way around. When an actor tries to be a musician its always terrible, especially Billy Bob. It's like musician is just inherently cooler.
>>220604785>Bowie was awful as wellNegative ghost rider.
>>220604377It's more enjoyable going into it before the book and before DUNC. As a third telling ofnthe story, you already know all the story beats, plot points, and character arcs. You'll inherently be biased against it and bored seeing the same old events yet again.
>>220604785>When an actor tries to be a musician its always terribleLeto had 5 songs in the top 100 billboard charts with 30 Seconds To Mars. At least two of them were actually pretty good. To be fair he was probably more famous as a musician back then than as an actor.
>>220603445>that end up completely ruining the themes of the bookthey were ruined by the books themselves.
>>220603445There's a Gundam character that looks like right dude
>>220605691Total edge case, closer to Kris Kristofferson. Leto had feet firmly planted in both disciplines.
>>220605557>It's more enjoyable going into it before the bookDisagree, I feel like if you watch it before the book you will be incredibly confused. Several characters have their introductions either seriously sped past or totally omitted so without context you'll be left confused as to what the relationship between certain characters are and why they behave that way towards each-other.
>>220603922Yeah, fight me about it. It just feels out of place bro.
>>220603445I said this about Battlefield Earth, and I'm considered a monster.
>>220603445The first half is fantastic. It's not til the second half when it goes off the rails.
>>220603445The only interesting parts were the effects for the shielding the sand niggers used, Anno probably aped that for Evangelion, and Paul having a homoerotic knife fight with Sting that made the knife fight from Beat It seeem manly and hetero in comparison.
>>220603445Lynchs dune has good pacing
>>220603445>Does it suffer from horrible pacing that grossly compresses major story lines that end up completely ruining the themes of the book? Yes.You're a fag, stick to the Villenueve version
>>220607624It's objectively true
>>220603445I agree on the fact that it captures the spirit of the book better than the new movies but it's still bad son. You're comparing a turd with a shiny turd
>>220604785It's a shame Lynch never worked with Tom Waitshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6T8ksKASZYw
>>220603445Yes.
>>220603731>Asteroid Opera
>>220607443Battlefield Earth is a very memorable movie
>>220603759>I honestly don't understand how can people even watch that blandjews own the media and the advertisement business. hello!
>>220603445Absolutely based and true analysis >>220603501Bitch
>>220603947I do this every morning before I get into the shower.
>>220604785The Prestige isn’t even the Prestige without Bowie as Tesla.
>>220605714There’s also a comics character based on right dude. Sting is just that iconic.
>>220607754thanks mr waits
>>220603445Dune is the only good movie Lynch did.
>>220607754I said musicians, not hipstercore assclowns. Could be a fine actor for all I know.>>220609590Damn, I forgot about that. Nolan retardation but Bowie did pull his weight, at least that time.
>>220610633>tom waits>hipstercore assclown
>>220610819Yup, I've been fighting off "enlightened listeners" for years telling me this godawful noise is actually genius. It's novelty music at best, belongs on a Dr Demento compilation next to Velvet Underground and Zappa.
>>220610963It's music for alcoholics
>>220610633>Could be a fine actor for all I know.Tom Waits? He's pretty good. I liked him the imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, Ballad of buster scruggs and Coffee and cigarettes. Don't care for his music outside some of the early love songs though
>>220603720I am sorry anon but this time thee "it's funny..." thing does not work, if anything, Sting is remembered better due to being the lead man of the music band Police
>>220607754thanks mr waitshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-c5L_45_gA
>>220610963I feel like you're baiting. Velvet Underground got really out there at times but has a solid catalog of pretty fucking normal music.
>>220611104I always get accused of baiting when sharing my actual dogshit opinions. I will hereby extend Lou Reed the tiniest of olive branches; Perfect Day is a nice song, from a writing standpoint.
>>220603759Dunc is a half notch above slop. If all you know is slop, then I'm sure it's amazing. The thought of rewatching either of them is agonizing to me. Lynch Dune is a visual feast that ages like a fine wine. Fifty years from now it will be discovered by new generations and celebrated. Dunc will be looked back on the way we look at Forrest Gump. Like "how was THAT movie THAT popular?"
>The creepy little girl turned out to be a babe.
>>220603445give lynch a 5h cut and this would be the final kino
>>220612222I genuinely believe that if Lynch bad been allowed to go all out Dune would have become so popular that it would destroy public interest in Star Wars
>>220607443it's great until the whole 1000 year old aircrafts and learning to use them in 2 weeks
>>220603988Just how fucking prohibiting is this technology thing in the Dune universe?
