>I'll try spinning. That's a good trick!"
this would liquefy everyone on the ship, i thought the expanse was big on realistic spaceship physics?
it does look cool though
>>
Why would it liquify them?
>>
>>220604536
because that spin is high double digits G force and the crash couches aren't even made for acceleration in those directions
>>
>>220604536
They would be subject to around 8.7G.
This is still within the realm of human ability

Gravity in space?
>>
>>220604718
its 180 degree flip and back in 2 seconds
if they're 10m from the axis of the flip thats 40g
>>
>>220604731
G's are a measure of acceleration, not gravity
it just happens to be the unit of acceleration on the surface of the earth
>>
>>220604491
wouldnt this send them into an uncontrolled spin
theres nothing i can see which is actually countering the initial impulse
>>
>>220604757
isn't it a=(((10*pi*2)/2/3)^2)/10
It's been a few years since I last did rotation physics.
>>
>>220604838
*2 seconds instead of 3
a=(((10*pi*2)/2/2)^2)/10
>>
>>220604827
Pretend there are reaction control thrusters on the side of the hull.
>>
>>220604491
No, they pump a liquid into their veins so they can resist G-forces better
>>
>>220604775
why would god make the measurement for acceleration and for gravity the same?
>>
>>220605228
that works only up to ~15G + the chairs are built for acceleration in those directions
this is several times higher than that and sideways
>>
>>220604862
>>220604838
180 degree flip in 1 second @ 10m from axis of rotation is
G = 4*pi^2 x 10 / (9.81 * 1^2) ~= 40g
if they're in the cockpit it's even worse because it's at the front of the ship
>>
>>220605307
You do understand that gravity is an acceleration towards a significant concentration of mass right? And it's God, you heathen.
>>
>>220605655
God is a supermassive black hole at the center of every galaxy?
What is dark energy then, space satan?
>>
>>220604491
Sidonia did this at 1/4 of that speed. Half the passengers got splattered to the ship walls

>let the annoying bitch live and also waste a third of a season on her
>waste another third of the season on annoying zesty pirate man
god damn that last season was shit
>>
>>220605639
Small correction: your formula assumes a full 360° rotation every 1 s, not a single 180° flip in 1 s. A 180° flip in 1 s gives angular speed ω≈π rad/s, so at 10 m from the axis:
a=ω2r≈π2⋅10≈99m/s2≈10g
Still extremely dangerous, especially near the nose of the ship, but closer to ~10 g than 40 g.

dark energy and dark matter are fake, they were invented because the equations physicists trusted didn’t match what the universe was actually doing. Instead of admitting the models might be incomplete, they added invisible placeholders that supposedly make up most of reality.

>>220606227
They invented 95% invisible universe instead of questioning whether vacuum is actually empty. Galaxies aren’t moving through empty space but through a rotating informational medium that behaves more like a fluid than a vacuum. “Dark matter” is just large-scale vortices in spacetime caused by synchronized galactic rotation. The extra gravity isn’t invisible mass but drag from the medium itself. “Dark energy” appears because the medium thins out as structure forms, which changes the rate clocks and distances decohere across the universe.

Wouldn't the strongest force to worry about not be rotational but momentum or inertia. Traveling in space probably very high speeds and they come to a stop.

Einstein field equations, Friedmann equations, and the ΛCDM model’s mass-energy budget calculations. Galaxy rotation curves don’t fit predicted gravitational distributions, so “dark matter” gets added. Universal expansion measurements don’t fit expected deceleration, so “dark energy” gets added through Λ.

Fred dies in the book too, but he has the death that Alex took in the show. Fred dies to a stroke during a high G burn. It was dumb to have him shot in the back
>>
But they'd only experience high Gs only for a second or two. And not all in one direction, as they spin the inertia would be acting across 360 degrees as they decelerated. I think it would work
>>
>>220606168
>they added invisible placeholders
That is literally admitting the model is incomplete. They admit it isn't matching the observed results and some unknown factor is at play. Putting in that unknown factor they haven't observed yet completes the model.

Humans can tolerate hundreds of negative G force, its positive G force that makes people black out.
>>
>>220606721
A negative G force is just acceleration in the opposite direction, which is also positive G force.

dark matter is to make newtonian physics compatible with how galaxies spin. read: faster on the edges, progressively slower towards the center. dark energy is to explain why the expansion of the universe started increasing instead of decreasing over time.

both are explained by time dilation being a much more powerful and farther reaching phenomenon than originally proposed.
>>
>>220607180
highest i read about was ~40-50Gs and the pilot was pretty beaten up afterwards
>>
>>220607352
>it seems our current model of physics doesn't explain this phenomenon which is, after all, operating on a much grander and more universal scale than the world which inspired our existing knowledge. Should we revisit the fundamentals of our understanding of the world?
>............no. Nobody can do that kind of intuitive inspired math any more. Make up some bullshit to make it fit.
>>
I like to think that if dark matter is real, it is the clustering of other matter, bodies, stars etc from parallel universes, all layered on top of eachother. Bleed-through gravity to other dimensions. I think I remember reading that we make up 10% or something and dark matter is the rest. Maybe there are 10 or so layers on top of eachother. Could explain the different races of interdimensional beings
>>
>>220605892
Holy shit it's Cutty. I might watch this after all.
>>
>>220607491
Its more that no one wants to. time dilation is well known to be an exponential function, and if its increasing/accelerating, end of the universe soon.
>>
>>220606014
It's really bad because the operations and flight deck are at the top of the ship. That means they're all experiencing 10gs towards their heads. I guess that's why they have their magic drugs to keep them alive in high-g maneuvers.
>Resistance to "negative" or "downward" g, which drives blood to the head, is much lower. This limit is typically in the −2 to −3 g0 (−20 to −29 m/s2) range.
>>220605766
Sidonia was a huge fucking colony ship. Centripetal acceleration depends on radius. Sidonia also wasn't a pure rotation, so the forces weren't directed straight up or down. And being a colony ship full of civilians trying to go about their lives, most of them weren't strapped into crash couches. The ones who went flying into walls were the ones who didn't manage to strap themselves to an emergency wall harness.

nta, but tacking onto this with what I believe is the “fluid” - the quantum foam itself. I believe that Einstein didn’t bring us all the way home with General Relativity because it still treats space as if it’s some bizarre inert entity that is acted upon with reacting.

Everyone who’s had a physics class is familiar with pic-related. Our current model treats gravity as some infinite elastic sheet. If that’s truly how it acts, then imagine the two objects in my pic separated by trillions of light years. Under that model, they’d both still feel an attractive force. In my conception, space is less an elastic “sheet” and more of an air mattress or a water bed. When you create a local depression (a gravity well) on such a surface, it’s accompanied by a generalized “rise” in the overall surface. I think that rise is fostered by the displacement of the quantum foam, essentially the quantum potential of the vacuum to manifest the properties of matter and energy. In other words, concentrations of mass and energy crowd out the potential of what can be with what *is*. In such a model, dark matter and dark energy are just different manifestations of the same thing - the fabric of space having gravity wells deeper than our Relativistic model can account for in terms of mass/energy alone and space becoming unexpectedly concave outside of local concentrations.
>>
>>220607990
... anon current relativity does assert that space is only somewhat elastic.
>>
>>220607689
>they're all experiencing 10gs towards their heads
the seats spin to maintain semi-uniform g-forces to prevent passing out from both too little or too much blood pooled in the head.

Why couldn't ghost miller see the black hole / eye of an angry god thing?
>>
>>220609589
I think because he was protomolecule powered and its function was to shut down protomolecule stuff. Miller needed the organic people to be able to see it so he could utilize it

on paper miller was reddit as fuck but in practice he was great, probably because the main cast sucked ass
>>

It would be more like turning a boat, a big wide arc of a turn, this gif is what a car might do in a stunt turn-around, its completely unrealistic.
>>
>>220605892
Agreed
Fred was a great character done dirty in the tv version
>>
>>
>>220604491
Don't they get shit injected into their spine before they go fast in a spaceship to protect them from the force?
>>
>>220609838
... anon boats need long arc turns because their direction can only be changed via thrust and deflection of water. expanse ships have control thrusters placed to maximize leverage to quickly adjust the ship to any direction. Its what those little white line flashes are.
>>
>>
>>
>>220610032
they take some bloodthinner mixture but it doesn't let you do more than ~10-15g and its still made to take it in one direction
>>
>>220610218
No, it lets them withstand prolonged high acceleration. And the military like Martians will go even further using liquid crash couches that fill your lungs with oxygenated fluid.
