By black and white, I mean opinions held on something are either "it's good" or "it's the worst fucking thing ever made" and nothing in-between.The recent season of The Boys is mediocre and everyone knows it, but it's disingenuous to say it's truly godawful or a disaster since there are things that it still does well and there are interesting ideas there. But this, along with other similar movies or shows, are never given this treatment since fans just choose immediate certainty instead. "It has problems so it is therefore a disgrace to film and is the biggest flop of the year".Am I the only one noticing this? Why can't people just call things mediocre anymore?
Thinking this is a "nowadays" problem means you're either really fucking stupid or, actually no it just means that.
What are the good things you see in this season that everyone else missed?

i think about things in terms of ratios. how much entertainment did i get, versus how much boredom did i feel, during an episode. for example, if the entire 60 min episode had just 2 good scenes, totaling 15 minutes, and the rest was boring BS that I had to skip over, then the ratio is not good. 45 mins of boredom vs 15 mins of entertainment. a good show should be so engaging that each ep delivers at least 30-45 mins of entertainment, and just a few boring moments. if most of the ep or all of the ep's runtime was boring, then obviously i'd be better off doing something else, or doing nothing at all.same applies for a 2 hour movie. many just suck because you're sitting there wondering "when does this get good?" or "why do i care about this character at all?" obviously all entertainment is a waste of time, but it shouldn't FEEL like a waste. that's why the complaints about s5 are valid, it was mostly filler. snooping around vought studios? pointless. boglight finding her long-lost dad, pointless, or should've done that earlier. seeking out v1? pointless. the virus? pointless. could've just gone the route of blasting him with radiation. HL willingly walks into a radiation room TWICE.

I think very few things are actually mediocre. Almost everything is at least kinda good or kinda bad. But I agree that too many people only think of things in terms of "it's great" or "it's trash".
