>>220637794There is one plot point that I think the book did better; it's Grace resigning himself to die by starvation when he decided to go back for Rocky.In the movie it was a pretty easy decision, just send the probes back to Earth and save Rocky. Everyone wins although Grace doesn't get to go home. In the book Grace only has enough food for one trip and Eridian food is toxic to him. Him deciding to save Rocky is a good conclusion to his character arc, from being a coward with no one to die for into a self-sacrificing friend. Of course they solved it by having him eat the Taumoeba, but he was actually malnutritioned for a few years until they figured out how to make meburgers.
