I used to say that they fucked up with not having Vought portrayed as the same kind of corporate horror as they were in the comics, but they're missing one other major factor too - that the supes would have formed a community. The frustrating thing with the show is that they seemed to consciously avoid the interesting parts just to focus back on lazy parodies, but they still did provide a peek at the interesting parts. At the basic level they didn't want to accidentally humanize the supes too much, they have to be punchlines and that's it.
