It would have been a better ending if Butcher didn't kill Homelander but just beat him up, HL goes to prison and flashes back to his lab days of being locked in a room against his will

In the finale Butcher calls both him and Ryan normal people, and I get that the radiation blast essentially boils away the V inside a supe. My only gripe with this finale is that, at least to me, it’s a huge plot hole, lazy writing, or potentially left in the dark for a sequel.
We know that Ryan was the first natural born supe, he wasn’t injected as an infant to receive the similar powers as Homelander. We know powers are somehow tied to genetics. But wouldn’t Ryan’s cells be biologically altered and therefore unable to lose his powers?
The only cop out I can see is the argument that his body naturally made compound v and the blast cooked it away/disabled whatever it is that produces it in his body.
Of course, we never saw on screen that he couldn’t use his powers, and he never said that he didn’t have them, he just didn’t say anything when Butcher said that.
My theory is that they left this intentionally blank, so that MAYBE in hopes of getting a new show going with the Gen V cast or bringing in old characters via cameos, with MM playing a father-like role in the show? Just a theory, but still I’m curious to Ryan’s powers

It's hinted at, as he was surprised Ryan lives, but you can see all the upset people not liking this season cause it wasn't on the nose. The comic has really no concept of throughput payoff though, people exist just to serve Garth's fantasy at that moment and very rarely if ever contribute to the overall plot, they're just there to be humiliated and occasionally remind you that bad guys are really really bad. It's borderline a fetishistic alt-superhero slice of life comic where you just watch a consistent cast do wacky things but as an overall story it's shit and the characters are used horribly
All that said though now accounting S5 the comic is better overall
S1-2 the show mogs insanely, 3 it gets iffy and 4-5 you can increasingly make the case the show is worse to the point I think it's now undeniable. 5 was absolutely awful.

It's kind of a more episodic plot, that doesn't contribute to the overall story, I guess, but it's the only emotionally moving part of the comics for me and one of the few parts where the humor really got me. Even as medically fucked up and kind of shitty as he is, that his dying act is to actually save someone, and his dying fantasy is to save the world by getting his rocks off is really great. It's a very rare nuanced look at a character from Ennis.
It's kind of weird to think that they have rape scenes in shows like this all the time, but I can't imagine them showing something like a guy fucking a car or a meteor.
