Probably the only one who watched it here, I'd say it's pretty good.
Historically it's pretty accurate, tho it has a couple of eyerolling moments like Mussolini saying "We have to make Italy great again".
Which IS something he said in a minor speech, but clearly here is used as a reference to Trump.
Overall still a pretty good series with good pacing and acting from the main character.

"The Fascist dictator had announced he would receive the press. Everybody came. We all crowded into the room. Mussolini sat at his desk reading a book. His face was contorted into the famous frown. He was registering Dictator. Being an ex-newspaperman himself he knew how many readers would be reached by the accounts the men in the room would write of the interview he was about to give. And he remained absorbed in his book. Mentally he was already reading the lines of the two thousand papers served by the two hundred correspondents. "As we entered the room the Black Shirt Dictator did not look up from the book he was reading, so intense was his concentration, etc.”
I tiptoed over behind him to see what the book was he was reading with such avid interest. It was a French-English dictionary — held upside down."

nonsense, fascism was not a flash in the pan, it wasn't 10 years like nazism, it was 20.
Giovanni Gentile gave it a philosophical framework and Niccolò Giani gave it a spiritual framework.
It was action before theory, not action without theory

Nay, speak not such folly! Fascism was no mere spark that flickers and is gone — 'twas not a fleeting ten years as Nazism, but a score of years did it endure. Giovanni Gentile didst bestow upon it the mantle of philosophy, and Niccolò Giani didst clothe it in spiritual raiment. Mark thee well — 'twas action that came before theory, yet never action bereft of it.

people need to educate themselves and learn that fascism and nazis are two completely and absolutely different things and ideas.
calling somebody a fascist isnt really an insult, why would it be?
>>
>>220646849
Neither is calling them a nazi tbf, although both were started by the soviets who urged their "useful idiots" in the west to label their opponents something they disagree with
>>
>>220646849
because fascism is no longer Mussolini's.
Fascism has been its own messy thing ever since the 40s.
Francoism, Pinochet, the Greek junta, and a slew of autocratic idiots alongside moronic domestic terrorists turned it into generic pointless thuggery, vaguely aping Hitler with a contempt for rational thought.
"Fascist" didn't become an insult overnight, it was a fall 80 years in the making.

I never understood this. Communism is supposed to be about uplifting the working class, right? How the fuck does that work when you're not allowed to own anything and there's a totalitarian government in charge?

No, I'm not gonna read Marx's manifesto.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>220647280
Marx was a retard who thought he was building on the work of Hegel, except Hegel would despise the idea that only economics matters.

The idea was a capitalist owns the means of creating wealth, so the people would take control of it and share it and the government was simply a means of using force to achieve this, however they wouldn't call it a government it would just be a small commitee of people (aka a totalitarian government).

Ironically Marx was funded by Engels, a private landlord

>>
I dropped it halfway in. Was recommended by people who usually have good taste, but I dunno. I found it underwhelming.
>>
>>220647280
in communist states you had "personal property" and "collective property", instead of "private property".
>what's the difference?
Personal is anything a person uses for life (food, a phone, a bike) - this property is allowed.
Collective property is mandatory for everything that is not personal: every factory, every field, every mine - this property is to be administered by the workers within the structure.
The Socialist state targets any threat to these kinds of property, and ensures they are administered following the rules and regulations of a socialist society, much like the Capitalist state targets any threat to private property and ensures they are administered following the rules and regulations of the market.
The capitalist state punishes things like theft, insider trading, fraud. The socialist state punishes the usage of goods that doesn't benefit the whole ("Wrecking") and other such things.
>>
>>220647468
>to be administered by the workers within the structure
In theory, however Marx did note there would need to be a special committee dedicated to this, which becomes a few facto state

His ideology falls apart very quickly when you start asking how things work
>>
>>220647468
You would have to be still in highschool to think having the right to own your own iPhone is a good trade off against owning land, your own house and business
>>
Chuds would love communism. All communist states transformed into dictatorships that were socially conservative and nationalistic. They also all complained about western degeneracy.
>>
>>220647536
Marx can't seriously provide a blueprint for a non-capitalist society, he knew nothing of administration and law - socialist countries had to wing it and everyone made up their own weird soup.

This doesn't mean the Soviet Union or China or Viet Nam never worked well, it means they essentially had to solve every practical issue from scratch
>>
>>220647280
In the case with the Soviet Union the idea was they had to be authoritarian because they were surrounded by fascist and capitalist nations that did not want to see communism become a thing. Stalin was also a humongous dick.
The one thing commies love more than fighting facists are fighting other communists for either being too communists or not communist enough.

goober alert. Fascism isn't just "autocracy" goofball, if it was you could come up with a lot more than these three examples.

It does portray Mussolini as a politician over an idealist, but that's not an incorrect portrayal, Mussolini definitely threw many truer fascists under the bus to get ahead.

It's *extremely* well acted and absolutely worth watching. The guy portraying Mussolini, in particular, is great.

I enjoyed it, though I'm a sucker for period pieces, especially 1920s-30s.

Though for what it's worth, Duce himself wasn't really all that likeable or inspiring. It/he is presented as such from the outset, but he or the actor just isn't able to sell it. And I don't mean from the perspective of his politics, but simply the man himself isn't charming or charismatic enough to win your favor (if not your allegiance) even though he's a right bastard. And given the subject material, you kind of need that I think.
