Nah brah brah. I can't. Its my first time living in America, so I'm gonna be going Halloween shopping as soon as possible. August is still summer. September is when it starts to set up, being the first real month of Fall/Autumn, but you'd still want to wait towards the end of the month. October is technically the month to be celebrated, but Halloween is the last day of that month. As much as I love the season, I wouldn't start it too early. October 1st-31st and the first week or two of November, to me, are the real meaningful Halloween season.

OK, I watched the 4th and final NotD - "Night of the Demons Reboot" (2009). It was better than NodD III but I still didn't like it. The dumb teens are now degenerates that are approaching 30 or a bit older than that. Linnea Quigley is 51 years old, still wears a ballerina tutu and still bends over to expose her fanny. I almost didn't recognize Edward Furlong who is older and bloated and who befittingly plays a drug dealer. How Maddie glanced at the wall with the sigils and illegible scribbles and then suddenly KNEW the lore of the 7 demons and how to defeat them and then spontaneously went on an exposition dump monologue was just awful. So was the music. Also: Demons know when Halloween is and respect sigils, but can be tricked by someone just pretending to be dead? No, just no.

After watching all 4 films my ranking is 2 > 1 = 4 > 3. If you want to watch Night of the Demons for Halloween, go with "Night of the Demons 2" from 1994, it's actually fun.

Horror movies only work when they're able to build up tension and atmosphere. They need to be thrilling and they're only thrilling when they're signaling a sense of danger to you.

If your mind can instantly pick up that it's just a guy roleplaying while wearing bad makeup, it loses all of that tension.

You're effectively watching a play with no sauce. That's what the 80s are, you're not watching a movie, you're watching a play. Which makes them more hilarious than scary and as a result makes them dogcrap as horror films.

I kind of agree with bait anon in that horror movies have been steadily more extreme in tension building ever since they came out. To the point where I think it'll have pushback eventually when it feels like you're sitting through repeating sequences of tension -> screamer.
That's besides the point though because tension and jumpscares are just one part of horror, and almost the easiest to pull off. If you give someone a flash animation and tell them a screamer is going to come up at some point, a lot of people will be so put off by the idea they won't even do it.

I'm an older horror fan. Neither a grandpa nor a zoomer. I find that the movies I like best fall into the 1990 - 2010 era roughly. (There are exceptions.) I mostly dislike modern horror because either everybody has to be an asshole or the "horror aspect" relies on something stupid. Films from the 1970s and 1980s aren't necessarily better, but sometimes they offer a comfy watch because they tell the story in 90 minutes, they don't go into everybody's personal traumas and problems, they don't force the characters' gender identity on the viewer, and generally speaking those were simpler times without mobile phones and permanent internet/social media connections.

And despite all that, I am still incredibly disappointed and bored. Not a single scene that could be even mistaken for tense or scary and

>all-hallows eve/samhain is a major fricking sabbat
Where I live Halloween isn't celebrated, but Walpurgis Night (St. Valborga's Night, 30th of April) is. It is one of the four witches' sabbaths, the other being on the night before the 2nd of February and on the night before the 1st of August. As you may note they're all 3 months apart, spread evenly throughout the year.
In Germany, wannabe witches gather at the Brocken Mountain in the Harz mountain range on Walpurgis Night. It is said that in the middle ages they would fly to the Brocken Mountain on broomsticks and dance there with the devil. Elsewhere the early church has converted this heathen holiday into a "dance into the month of may" event with dances, raves, partying all throughout Germany. (Hitler made May 1st an official holiday, so we can all sleep in the next day.) In Sweden Walpurgis Night is also a big social event with singing, dancing and bonfires. I'm just wondering why this other witches' sabbath has never inspired a movie, even though it would have the potential.

So ... I've done it, I watched "Night of the Demon" (1957). No connection at all to "Night of the Demons" (1988 - 2009). It was a slow, black and white postwar movie. The constant jump scares got on my nerves in the end. The story could have been told in a 45 minute TV episode. Also what I didn't understand - why make the protagonist an absolutely unlikable super arrogant prick? I found myself siding with the villain Dr. Karswell, a soft-spoken well mannered cult leader.

4/10 from me. Maybe better suited for someone into the charm of old British black and white films with received pronounciation etc.

I checked back recently and he's not following them anymore. I got the screenshot though.

It fits that he's a based chud director, because In a Violent Nature made the lesbian the most annoying character, crying about "ableism" and "cancel culture doesnt exist you bigot"
