>>220840249>Its my first time living in America, so I'm gonna be going Halloween shopping as soon as possible. August is when it usually gets rolled out right? that's what burgerbros have told me.August is still summer. September is when it starts to set up, being the first real month of Fall/Autumn, but you'd still want to wait towards the end of the month. October is technically the month to be celebrated, but Halloween is the last day of that month. As much as I love the season, I wouldn't start it too early. October 1st-31st and the first week or two of November, to me, are the real meaningful Halloween season.

OK, I watched the 4th and final NotD - "Night of the Demons Reboot" (2009). It was better than NodD III but I still didn't like it. The dumb teens are now degenerates that are approaching 30 or a bit older than that. Linnea Quigley is 51 years old, still wears a ballerina tutu and still bends over to expose her fanny. I almost didn't recognize Edward Furlong who is older and bloated and who befittingly plays a drug dealer. How Maddie glanced at the wall with the sigils and illegible scribbles and then suddenly KNEW the lore of the 7 demons and how to defeat them and then spontaneously went on an exposition dump monologue was just awful. So was the music. Also: Demons know when Halloween is and respect sigils, but can be tricked by someone just pretending to be dead? No, just no.After watching all 4 films my ranking is 2 > 1 = 4 > 3. If you want to watch Night of the Demons for Halloween, go with "Night of the Demons 2" from 1994, it's actually fun.

>>220842961Horror movies only work when they're able to build up tension and atmosphere. They need to be thrilling and they're only thrilling when they're signaling a sense of danger to you. If your mind can instantly pick up that it's just a guy roleplaying while wearing bad makeup, it loses all of that tension. You're effectively watching a play with no sauce. That's what the 80s are, you're not watching a movie, you're watching a play. Which makes them more hilarious than scary and as a result makes them dogcrap as horror films.

>>220843012I kind of agree with bait anon in that horror movies have been steadily more extreme in tension building ever since they came out. To the point where I think it'll have pushback eventually when it feels like you're sitting through repeating sequences of tension -> screamer. That's besides the point though because tension and jumpscares are just one part of horror, and almost the easiest to pull off. If you give someone a flash animation and tell them a screamer is going to come up at some point, a lot of people will be so put off by the idea they won't even do it.
>>22084323180s slashers were never meant to be taken seriously though. Meanwhile modern arthouse horror slop is all pretense, just masked with mildly creative cinematography to fool retards like you into believing it's good.

I'm an older horror fan. Neither a grandpa nor a zoomer. I find that the movies I like best fall into the 1990 - 2010 era roughly. (There are exceptions.) I mostly dislike modern horror because either everybody has to be an asshole or the "horror aspect" relies on something stupid. Films from the 1970s and 1980s aren't necessarily better, but sometimes they offer a comfy watch because they tell the story in 90 minutes, they don't go into everybody's personal traumas and problems, they don't force the characters' gender identity on the viewer, and generally speaking those were simpler times without mobile phones and permanent internet/social media connections.

The true horror was the gang of six obese negresses that just left the table next to me here at IHOPSent their steak back because it wasn't well done enough, I shit you not lmfao

I've already watched the anime (Phing Phong: The Animation). Why did the vietnamese make a live action version?
>>220844889It's a reach but I still lol'd
>>220844619>Horror movie about a monstrous entity that stalks its victims and doesn't harm them just teleports them in an uncomfortable situation (i.e. male victim is undressed and teleported into a kindergarten class full of little girls)Beat this

>>220840580Yeah, they missed some opportunities. Like the blacklight room with just a few glowy cups and shit still bugs me. Probably blew most of the set budget on makeup and effects.all-hallows eve/samhain is a major fricking sabbat when the walls between worlds are thinnest. Of course they know when it is. And the whole point of sigils is they give power over a demon in spells.
>>220845278Don't forget the entity forcing the guy to have a boner, ha haAnd the class being fascinated by it, ha lolAnd they're all like "what's this?" and groups of them are trying to grab it, ha ha what?Scary.
>>220845684>all-hallows eve/samhain is a major fricking sabbatWhere I live Halloween isn't celebrated, but Walpurgis Night (St. Valborga's Night, 30th of April) is. It is one of the four witches' sabbaths, the other being on the night before the 2nd of February and on the night before the 1st of August. As you may note they're all 3 months apart, spread evenly throughout the year.In Germany, wannabe witches gather at the Brocken Mountain in the Harz mountain range on Walpurgis Night. It is said that in the middle ages they would fly to the Brocken Mountain on broomsticks and dance there with the devil. Elsewhere the early church has converted this heathen holiday into a "dance into the month of may" event with dances, raves, partying all throughout Germany. (Hitler made May 1st an official holiday, so we can all sleep in the next day.) In Sweden Walpurgis Night is also a big social event with singing, dancing and bonfires. I'm just wondering why this other witches' sabbath has never inspired a movie, even though it would have the potential.

watched picrel last night. goofy alien-mold-guy-takes-over-radio-station-and-kidnaps-hot-women movie. a definite product of the 90s. the soundtrack is by Blue Oyster Cult, and they intersperse performances by other artists throughout, whenever the alien is kidnapping the women.this song from the last abduction has been stuck in my head https://youtu.be/gjuUO3clEjU?si=VZCXIPr0rJpwXpxa
So ... I've done it, I watched "Night of the Demon" (1957). No connection at all to "Night of the Demons" (1988 - 2009). It was a slow, black and white postwar movie. The constant jump scares got on my nerves in the end. The story could have been told in a 45 minute TV episode. Also what I didn't understand - why make the protagonist an absolutely unlikable super arrogant prick? I found myself siding with the villain Dr. Karswell, a soft-spoken well mannered cult leader.4/10 from me. Maybe better suited for someone into the charm of old British black and white films with received pronounciation etc.
>>220847021picrel.
>>220847028>ew, a black & white movie?>4/10 from meI don't like you or your reviews
>>220847182The black and white isn't the point of critique (which you apparently didn't bother to read). The slow script and the unlikable "hero" are.
>>220847259>slow scriptIt's a mystery film
>>220847021Best part: surprise Dollman cameo
>>220847041>>220847639The ending depends on the nurse getting out and using her nurse stuff, but in Dollman vs Demonic Toys she's the one that's trapped. Woops.
>>220845944And the 4th one is....?(there's technically 8 in total, 4 major, 4 minor)There's a few movies set around Walpurgis, The Devil Rides Out probably being the biggest. For some reason May day and it's flipside stopped being a thing in the US unless you're a socialist outside of a few local traditions, probably because of pagan associations without a strong positive context, unlike all-saints day.
>>220847973>And the 4th one is....?2nd of February30th of April31st of July31st of October.I guess with "minor ones" you mean both equinoxes and both solstices?

>>220848994Do you really think only japanese people watch japanese horror?
>>220849192Mostly yes. There's a huge cultural difference, Japanese horror doesn't translate at all. Of course there's always some pretentious artsyfags who pretend to like Japanes horror, because that makes them "special".
Do you think Stella Grace Fitzgerald has what it takes to become a scream queen?
>>220849231You might be the dumbest motherfucker on this board, and that's saying something.
>>220839713Don’t listen to anon, Iron Lung was kino and so far the best horror movie of 2026. Expected hot ass, and although Mark’s acting fit that criteria, the movie was amazingly shot, had good effects/music, and great concepts that put it in line with event horizon. It’s also insane he did it with a lower than 5mil budget.
>>220849292Iron Lung sucked and Obsession's budget was $750k.
>>220849365Obsession was dogass, switched premises halfway and didn’t do either very well, especially compared to what it draws from. The budget doesn’t really make it any better because there was hardly any impressive production going on anyhow. That and the acting was cringe af, zoomers cant act for shit, at least mark’s shitty acting was only over the top not downright obnoxious.
>>220849292I thought Iron Lung was dumb. There just wasn't enough of a concept to work with and make a movie out of
>>220849532REALLY stupid opinionThe acting was great, and it didn't "switch premises halfway through", no idea what you're talking about. I think you are actually delusional

And what I meant is how it couldn’t decide if they were doing a possession thing or a going insane thing and it ended up doing neither of them well.

The director for "In a Violent Nature", Chris Nash, used to follow Sam Hyde and Nick on instagramI checked back recently and he's not following them anymore. I got the screenshot though. It fits that he's a based chud director, because In a Violent Nature made the lesbian the most annoying character, crying about "ableism" and "cancel culture doesnt exist you bigot"Then she gets vivisected in the most brutal kill of the movie.Chud coded movie made by a good lad. I look forward to Part 2. Disappointing that he is trying to coverup his chud-ness though

>>220849744The horror film Freaks directed by Tod Browning who also directed Dracula with Bela Lugosi used real life circus freaks. It was considered exploitative in 1932 but has since been re-evaluated as actually being sympathetic towards the freaks.
>>220851418Movie was garbage. Bros, I woke up and immediately vacuumed. Is that how most people spend their lives? Wake up and immediately go to work.
>>220851547If by "go to work" you mean tossing my laptop on my lap and working from bed, then yeah, that's what I do
>>220851570I'm probably the biggest PD horror watcher here, so I'll be checking that out when I can pirate it. I assume Englund is playing Geppetto, right?
