My problem with the core of Westworld the place (aside from the fact that the actual narrative of the show was that some old guy hated people so much he invented murderbots that would be trained on the violence done to them to kill all humans) is that it's not really clear what it actually IS. Is it a theme park? Some people seem to treat it like that as it seems to be marketed at least in some way as a relatively normal vacation spot for corporate retreats, bachelor parties, etc. Not family-friendly per se, but still a "Hey you guys wanna go to Westworld for spring break?" kind of thing. Or is it a LARP activity? People there seem to like the concept of stepping into a fictionalized historical setting where they can drink and gamble and whore and kill savage Indians and be big cowboy heroes and shit. But there's also scenes that show that very few people really play into the kayfabe and a lot just treat it as a novelty to blow off steam or just get drunk and be in a place that makes them feel tough because they can kill and fight and not be hurt back. But then...is it a game? Is there a "goal"? One of the early plots in the show was about how they go through these cycles of "story" where I guess you as a visitor can "play through" this pre-defined narrative where you get to be a hero and save the day. But like, how many people can do that? Do you have to schedule an appointment? The park doesn't have 10 of the same event going on in at the same time, and they have to clean up and reset the NPCs at the end of the day, so it seems weird that for such a huge park, only one person can do any given thing at a time.
