deep space travel explained
>>
>I once saw Dr. Weir explain a gravity drive with a pencil. With a fucking... pencil.
>>
Where we're going we won't need pencils to draw.
>>
it was a good explanation
>>
>>220984865
Except for the fact that, y'know, space isnt a flat fucking surface that you can just fold
>>
>>220984738
I dunno why autistic retards act like this isn't a good way to explain the concept to laymen.

Yeah put on your r/science branded cape and fedora and go on a 90 minute rant about spacetime spouting buzzword, I'm sure the crew will love it.
>>
>>220985052
Flatness is relative. Folding space is just an engineering problem.
>>
Humanity gets the technology to travel anywhere in the universe faster than light.

But

Every-time the technology is used the entire crew gets murder raped for eternity in another universe (only lasts as long as the trip in real universe time)

Is it worth it?
>>
>>220985052
Professor Science over here
>>
Why is it always Event Horizon that gets called out on this explanation but not Interstellar?
>>
>>220985108
well if you weren’t a dumb zoomer and had independent thought you’d realize it’s a fake scientific (what you’re bitching about) explanation in place of an actual plot.

a good film includes the explanation in the plot itself, maybe through a discovery. having science man make an analogy is some weak writing.

>>220984738
>>220984841
If that technology actually existed there is absolutely no way it would remain a secret. They try to get away with it by calling it a gravity drive but let's be real, they're talking about teleportation
>>
Which Chaos God did Dr.Weir serve in the Warp after the events of this film?
>>
>>220984738
Whoa, whoa, whoa, in English, doc!
>>
>>220985232
he was undivided
>>
>>220985133
What if we invented a shield to keep all the murder-rape energy out of the ship while we're traveling through the murder-rape universe?
>>
>>220985052
It is if there is higher dimension
>>
He should have looked right into the camera and said:
>"*sigh* I gotta science the shit out of this.""

LOCKED 'N' COCKED
>>
AAAAHHHHH!
>>
>>220985265
the technology just wouldn't work. It needs to murder rape an entire crew for unspecified reasons

DO YOU SEE?

>>220985052
it represents a 2d projection of 3d space, the folding representing an additional dimension
>>
>time is a folded over piece of paper with a pen through it

Get a load of these non-scientists
>>
People who are actually smart can make analogies that are good representations of a concept, because they understand the whole thing and can reduce it down to a simpler level for communication.
People who think they're smart pedantically complain about the analogy because they've been told by somebody smarter that it's not a literal representation of something, and they lack the actual knowledge and understanding to extrapolate from what's being represented and understand how it's a valid analogy.
>>
you don't even know what deep space is, fag

The way the gate actually functioned on a scientific level isn't important at all to the movie, and it's pretty clear the explanation is supernatural/religious (or so far beyond our understanding it may as well be) rather than scientific.

Normal people don't give a fuck about muh science sperging, just go talk about Interstellar if you want to discuss what enlightened science men you are with other midwits.
>>
i don't think its ever stated just implied in the movie that the Event Horizon's core design was like how that building in Ghost Busters was designed by a madman as a spiritual gateway.
Its obvious who ever designed had otherworldly inspiration probably from the place it sends people
>>
>>220985265
What if my auntie had enormous bollocks? Would she be my uncle then?
>>
>>220985659
Well apparently they released a comic and thats what happened he was manipulated by a demon to create the Event Horizon
>>
>>220985637
>Its obvious who ever designed had otherworldly inspiration probably from the place it sends people
This is quite clear, he is already described as troubled and his downward spiral is very obvious. He was definitely influenced by whatever entity/entities are on the other side many many years before the events of the movie, and you can see this better in some deleted scenes:

>>220985738
apparently its canon now. His wife mysteriously dying and his nightmares were him being manipulated by a demon to create a portal to hell
>>
>>220985738
>>220985776
Well there you go then, but it was already pretty heavily hinted at anyway, dude has several screws loose from the start.

Makes the whole science angle even less relevant.

How can one have a horizon in space

Check out quantised inertia.
>>
>>220985265

And then the shields fail half the time so super soldiers on board the ships have to fight ofoff demonic enemies trying to get in
>>
>>220985776
>>220985888

Thats dumb

>it was le fate manipulation all along

>guy gets corrupted by the horrors of space
>his final form is turning naked with lots of papercuts or naked wifh a severe sunburn
I hate this trope.

Is it invented by Mr. Gellar and is some sort of field around the ship?
