This is still the best prequel.

Okay
>>
>>220999261
I agree, the only one I like
>>
>>220999261
It feels the most passionate because it's the only one where Lucas was expecting people to like it. The last two prequels have this sense of "let's get this over with".
>>
It’s turns to shit like five minutes in when Jar Jar arrives. He really is THAT annoying, but it’s the best looking prequel. It has the most practical effects and it doesn’t completely break the lore because it takes place so far before anything important happens.

You’re not missing anything. 7 is fine for what it is, a soft reboot, but it’s literally all downhill from there. There’s no point in watching it when the next two suck so bad.
>>
>>220999694

V>IV>I>III>VI> *powercliff*>>>>>>>>>>>II
VI is not a bad movie. I like it. But I think sith and menace are better. People cry about Jar Jar but he is both not that bad and not in the movie very much either. VI has so much flop to it that mostly comes from missed potential. Boba Fett "dying" like a punk to a blind Han Solo, killing all hype for the character for absolutely no gain. I get thats the joke of the character, he and his dad both seem imposing and tough but both die like any other goon but it's a lame joke. And for as bad as Jar Jar is the Ewoks are 1000% worse and far more egregious.
>>

Jar Jar crimes:

Ewok crimes:
>Annoying voices

>Used in place of far more believable Wookies or anything more creative than wookies but small
>Genuinely creepy looking
>Add nothing to film, not even thematically, just exist to sell merch
I could go on really

He's a complete dork, but he loves his mom, and he's got game.
Also dealing with being in a cult.

Phantom Menace is the only one that feels like an actual movie. Attack of the Clones is an incoherent mess, and the cgi has aged terribly. Revenge of the Sith has some cool action sequences, but its really just a check list of things that needed to be explained before A New Hope.
>>
>>221000780
none of the prequels had a satisfactory big battle except maybe episode 2 at the last 1/3rd. All the other star wars movies had climatic large scale space or land battles
>>
>>221000780
>Attack of the Clones is an incoherent mess
I see people say this a lot but what's not to understand?
>>
>>221000808
Phantom Menace has four. It has the space dogfight with Anakin, the ground battle with the Gungans, Padme storming the palace, and the Jedi fighting Darth Maul.
>>
>>221000871
>has four
none of those were well done like the death star attacks or hoth. you got 3 short 1 minute cut ins and that was it for those. the coolest one being the padme and jedi ones
>>
The problem with Star Wars is they blew their load with the first movie and the Death Star trench run.
Lucas had pitched a script with about 3 movies worth of material, hoping Fox would greenlight all three, and they initially told him he could do one.
So we got the 1977 Star Wars, which was a remixed version of the original draft and had the climax of that original draft as its own climax.
This is all fine and good, 1977 Wars is a good movie, but when it was a huge success, and Fox wanted more of that sweet Star Wars money, they went back to Lucas' draft and further remixed it. Hence you get a "Death Star II" in RotJ.

It's a situation where I don't think ANY Star Wars movie following that first film will ever have a climax that lives up to that first movie.

>>
>>221000863
I've seen the movie at least 20 times, and I still do not understand the plot. There are two big issues I have. I have no idea who actually put in the order for the clone army. Was it actually Sifo Dyas or was it Palpatine pretending to be Sifo Dyas. If it was Sifo Dyas, that raises more questions than it answers. And if it was Palpatine, what was his plan for revealing the clone army? Obi-Wan stumbled upon it by dumb luck. And nobody questioned it, nobody went down to the jedi temple accounting department to ask where the money came from.

Then I don't understand anything Dooku does. When he captures Obi-Wan, it seems like he is fully invested in the separatists' cause, and he wants Obi-Wan to join him to betray Palpatine. But then this is immediately dropped and never mentioned again after this scene.

>>
>>221001050
>I have no idea who actually put in the order for the clone army. Was it actually Sifo Dyas or was it Palpatine pretending to be Sifo Dyas.
It was Dooku, formerly a Jedi, pretending to be Sifo Dyas. Dooku also deleted Kamino from the Jedi archives, at Palpatine's request, to hide their clone army from the peacekeepers who might put a stop to it.
>And if it was Palpatine, what was his plan for revealing the clone army?
Palpatine was playing both sides, fostering the CIS rebellion against the Republic, and he was pushing the CIS to militarize and threaten the Republic until the common people would cry out for Palpatine to have power.
Which is what happens in the movie:
The clones don't attack Geonosis because Obi-Wan discovered them, they attack Geonosis because Jar Jar proposed the Senate give Palpatine emergency powers to create an army.
And Palpatine (essentially) goes "Oh wow, haha, looks liek we had an army ready to go! Isn't it crazy how we have a war on our hands??"
Obi-Wan really had nothing to do with Palpatine's plans, he was going to create the conflict anyway. Obi-Wan just happens to discover part of what Palps was up to.

> I don't understand anything Dooku does. When he captures Obi-Wan, it seems like he is fully invested in the separatists' cause, and he wants Obi-Wan to join him
Well he *is* fully invested in the Seperatists cause, because he's in on Palpatine's plan to play both sides against each other.
His whole role in the plan is to recruit Republic sympathizers into the CIS (including people like Obi-wan), dividing the Republic as much as possible, so that the war does as much damage as possible, so (he thinks) he and Palpatine can gain power.
There's also something about Sith always looking for the next moment to kill their master and take over, so maybe Dooku had that in mind too.

Empire is better than 1977 Wars on a base level. It's more "thrilling", because of the refined special effects, new music, a more conventional approach to its storytelling and cinematography, and the "epic twist"
But I don't know if I respect the idea that it's the "better film"
It's not the film that made people fall in love with Star Wars and demand a sequel.
And it seems to me like almost all of the problems with the Star Wars franchise, and its current state, is down to people, particularly Gen X, obsessing over Empire, and trying to re-create that magic from their childhood, instead of paying attention to what actually works.

The movie makes perfect sense (to me anyway), but I get the feeling people don't like to think about it because it broaches some scary/uncomfortable topics.
It's scary to think that a person or group of people might organize an entire war just to terrorize and manipulate the public.
Also it deals head on with Anakin's mother being brutalized and probably raped by savages, which *is* something that happens in reality, and that's a reality of life people would probably prefer to bury in their subconscious than choose to face.
So, it seems to me at least, people pretend "the movie doesn't make sense" or say "it's bad", when they probably mean to say "it made me unsettled" ... which is somehow perfectly fine for other more "artsy" movies to do ...

By a large margin
last Star Wars film to be shot on film.
>>
>>220999261
Agreed. Not a prequel fan by any stretch, but Episode 1 is, if nothing else, one of the best looking movies ever made. The mix of practical and digital effects are far more even than the later ones. The set design is outstanding even in otherwise lame places like the Gungan city or just generic open fields. It's also the least one to be shot on film, and it really shows. Outside of that there's a kind of freshness to its world that later entry lack, and Quigon is probably the only character from this era that displays any real character or charisma.
Oh yeah, and the podrace was cool. Good scene, good game.
>>
>>220999535
same. it baffles me that it's not universally beloved. crazy variation in settings and action, awesome conspiracy subplot, best field battle in the franchise by far, jedi fighting dinosaurs, dooku is based and redpilled.

I guess people can't get over the "look" of it, the CGI, the digital photography, etc. etc.
This is somehow despite it being far better looking than the slew of CGI laden marvel films that followed in its wake.
>>
>>221000586

What is blunt force trauma? People shit on the ewoks because it's a cheesy story line, but humility is all the empire needed at that time. It's juxtaposition threefold for an easy to comprehend meta effect: Endor battle: death star 2 battle; and Luke, Vader, and Palpatine battling and tipping the balance of it all. Lucas had a knack for complex technique done dumb.
>>
>>221004834
This is one of the most heavily criticized shots in all of modern cinema. Even when this movie premiered people were complaining about how ugly it was.
>>
>>221004946
Yes, and it's frankly emblematic of marvel movies, and desu, (with the exception of maybe TFA, TLJ, and Rogue One) Disney's own Star Wars output.
They have relaxed into a lazy and ugly usage of CGI.

Wrapping up my review, somewhat on topic as a prequel? Finished watching the rest of Rogue One, it definitely picks up in the second half aka scariff. The rebel pilots hit me with a wave of nostalgia, probably gonna rewatch the OGT sometime. Now I'm kind of split because half the movie is terrible but the last hour sorta makes up for it.

The funniest part is seeing the andor cast and their "lack of experience," the characters lost all their flair. None of the new characters like Jyn and the asian men stand out that much compared to the andor dudes. Sad to see cassian and krennic go.
