Is this what passes for good horror nowadays?
>>
>>221014660
you don’t understand, it’s left open for your own interpretation
>>
There's enough subtext to get an idea what was going on. When horror films try to explain the mystery too much it just becomes boring anyways
>>
>>221014742
Disagree. The movie provides no real answers to anything.
You can even just say it was all a dream and he was hearing voices.
>>
i watched it yesterday
One of the stupidest movies I've ever seen
It sets up an otherworldly baseline, and then the reveals are fucking normie tier
>Stars are dying and there's an ocean made of blood. Go!
>I--IS THAT A FISH SKELLETON?, SAVE ME MILITARY WOMEN
>Is that a mild visual or auditory hallucination???!
So stupid holy shit

>your own interpretation
What makes you think I need the author's permission to do this?
>>
This is a movie based on a game that people primarily consumed by watching a professional grifter play it. Modern audiences love these products which sound exciting (blood ocean, bruh) because it makes for a better campfire story as told by their parasocially simulated friend on the screen, and they don't have to have real substance as much as they need for the observer to be able to say
>ackshually, according to the fan wiki, the deep lore says the anglerfish is the skeleton mup do didda dub ho
because this is as much being sold as a social experience as it is a pure entertainment product

The type of people who enjoys this is conditioned to think that you're not a member of their tribe if you don't play along, too. It's like an extension of the Neil Breen type phenomenon, but with the irony in a slightly different place and a more mainstream crowd
>>
>>221015277
What a cynical take.
Are you ok?
>>
>>221015277
Yeah it kinda feels like an inside joke type of movie
But consider the circus amazing shit made their last episode a theater release, the future is grim and it absolutely looks like it's moving in that direction
Movies will not be made for a general audience but for turnoniches that you are absolutely not encouraged to get, nor be welcomed to get it, nor even invite it to learn it, because it's a "reward" movie not really an "entertain" movie
>>
>>221014660

Iron Lung? Non of it?
It's 90% open movie, 10% open ended
I don't think a single thing in the movie is ever explained
Only that the blood is human, and not really explained per se, more like "this is what we think it is!"
Nothing was explained during the movie and nothing indicates that whatever happens after the end will provide evidence either.

it's on the same branch as gaming vtubers personal whores and game rage speedrunners, they all kinda do the same thing with little variations
Friend simulator talk to you broadly while playing games
Vtubers talk to chat and interact directly with chat often while playing
Rage runners don't give a fuck about you broadly or the chat directly, and mostly curse at themselves or the game

Yup. The movie is just a list of statements.

-Planet with blood ocean
-Criminal/terrorist/murderer is sentenced to go on a mission
-Mission is hard
-!!There are Aliens in the blood!!
-Voices!!!! MORE VOICES!!!!
-Allucinations
-I dont wanna die!!!

The absolute contempt this business model and its performers have for the audience shouldn't be surprising, but it is. I think that's because it's so in your face. It almost seems like the audience has to be fully irony poisoned to subject themselves to it.
>>
>>221014780
It's laid out pretty clear. The blood ocean is made up from the people who disappeared in the quiet rapture and the giant fish is some evil entity that tries to stop him by messing with his mind. It will mess with your head over time but like with the SM8 the assistant drank the blood which made them go insane faster. The goal of the creature is to absorb all of them, including using the light like an anglerfish to lure them in

People who complain about shit like this, particularly when it comes to horror movies, are retards with low IQ, no attention span and no imagination. Iron Lung managed to filter a lot of them because it actually forces you to pay attention to character dialogue and visual cues to follow what's going on. Then those same people will complain about movies that use exposition to stop and explain something important so retards like them can keep up.

Wdym? Most of the stuff is explained.
> blood ocean is alive and eldritch monster
> the want to study it to make food out of it
> if you come into contact with it, it slowly takes over your body
> MC hears eldritch voices because the blood is taking over his body

The only thing they dont straight up explain is the light and time skip.
Something something eldritch horror, hive mind, eternal life, the light is one of the stars. Take your pick.

If anything the movie needed to be shorter.
Every creative mind needs a good regisseur to cut the unneccessary edges. Which clearly didnt happen here, since it was a one man show.

Horror movies have always been this way and it's why I hate them as a genre.
Slap "horror" on your movie and suddenly you don't have to abide by any rules of story structure. Nothing has to make sense and you don't have to explain anything.
It just has to make people feel bad.

Because it makes them to goo zombies that join the blood ocean hive slime, you bot.

Them trying to eat the ocean is one of the main plot points. That zombie he sees multiple times is the consciousnessof the guy on the other ship he finds. He ate the blood because he was afraid theyd starve and got absored.

>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YOU DIDN'T SHOW ME THE MONSTER I CAN'T VISUALIZE IMAGES IN MY HEAD
>>
>>221018032
i went pretty deep into this movie and theres a bunch more to learn. the scientists of the other sub are the monster (you can see its head is actually two skulls fused together). additionally, the time skip is because he is taken out of reality by an eldritch being that is observing them (its mentioned in the movie that the destruction of the universe could simply be a side effect of that, like the observer effect). also, the main character becomes a tree at the end, which explains why at one point we see his oxygen go up at the end
>>
>>221014660
Now that's what I call kino. Too many films try to be conclusive and/or provide a detailed narrative.

You're making shit up. I'm replaying the end now, and he never becomes a tree.

>>
>>221018741
The movie has a conclusion. But it his so badly made that you can't know it unless you replay parts of it AFTER the movie has ended, to make some sense out of it.
There are issues with the sound, where many voices overlap and you cant hear when you're supposed to.
The main character slurs his speech, Markiplier sounds like he was drunk on the set.
The CGI being so bad, you can't see the monster, you can't tell what is happening at the end.
>>
>>221018741
Too many films reveal shit when they're creatively bankrupt. If you can't design a compelling creature meant to deeply captivate or disturb the audience, do not bother revealing it.

Everybody feared the monster in backrooms, until it revealed itself to be a jacked up version of the guy in the pirate suit. Not to mention it somehow slowed down dramatically and stopped being stealthy once the therapist woman showed up.

They had to "injure" her with a couch for it to catch up to her. Awful fucking overhyped dogshit.
>>
>>221018825
>The movie has a conclusion. But it his so badly made that you can't know it unless you replay parts of it AFTER the movie has ended, to make some sense out of it.
This is a movie with a cthulu-scale entity, you aren't supposed to "make sense of it". This isn't marvel slop, there is no sequel.
>There are issues with the sound, where many voices overlap and you cant hear when you're supposed to.
You're correct, but it doesn't detract much from the film, and you can watch it with CC.
>The main character slurs his speech, Markiplier sounds like he was drunk on the set.
The main character is badly injured, constantly banging into every part of the ship, being corrupted by a profound entity, and if you were paying attention should be on low oxygen which lack thereof can induce hallucinations until you fucking die.
>The CGI being so bad, you can't see the monster, you can't tell what is happening at the end.
99% of the film are hand built practical effects, you aren't supposed to see the monster, and it is very clear what is happening at the end.

This is a 3 million dollar indie film, not a multimillion dollar production. It also isn't meant to create a cinematic universe. You fucking zoomers are so braindead you can't watch anything without plot being handed to you.

The longer this movie ran the thinner the originality goes.

So here’s your rundown that usually requires a few watches:

Pay attention to the opening shot. There’s a giant eye inside the black hole, different from Ellie’s. That is the ignorant God who caused the quiet rapture. It peaked into our universe and, because a gods all knowing, turned our existence into something it better understood. This caused the removal of all planets and stars that could support life. Only space stations and shuttles, man made objects, were spared.

All that remained of humanity is a giant ocean of blood. There’s your missing people. We’re all one inside a blood ocean. It is also worth noting a few things. Namely that the blood ocean isn’t coagulated, and that it is hot in the blood. This means the blood is still alive and pumping. The blood ocean is sentient. It affects any structure that goes down into it. You can see the growths slowing forcing their way into the SM13 during the course of the movie. This is also why Simon still has oxygen long after he should have ran out. The blood ocean is creating co2. His oxygen level actually goes back up from 1 square to 2 because of this.

Ellie is the giant eel that pursues Simon throughout the movie. She is made up of the crew of the SM8. One of the crew members went nuts, drank the blood and starting seeing/hearing things. She transformed not just herself, but her fellow crew mates. If you look at the eels model online, it’s a mass of clumped together people. It’s following Simon throughout the whole film. You can look up all the photos Simon takes with the SM13 throughout the movie online and you’ll be able to spot her hidden in so many of them.

The skeleton is just a skeleton, not related to Ellie at all. Nor is it alive. Ellie dragged it from one location to the other to lure Simon.

The light is the crack where the god peered in from. It’s in the shape of a crucified man. Ellie covets the light but is unable to commune with god. It sears her flesh when she approaches.
>>

The funny thing about this movie is that with Obsession/Backrooms getting hyped and making alot of money they're rolling this 'movie' into the Youtuber Hollywood invasion. This movie is only a success because of autistic fans forcing it to make sure their guy is seen as a success. This is closer to Shitty Shelby Oaks and a singular man's ego trip to make a movie cause they have more money than they know what to do with. Backrooms has an autistic fanbase, but it's an organic one grown over years of obsession on a subject culminating in a single movie. Obsession is just good ole fashion word of mouth by example of it making more and more money every weekend it stayed in theaters. Fuck this shitty streamerslop game movie adaptation, fuck markiplier, fuck chris stuckman. Their movies suck.

God sees Simon. And Simon sees god. They come to an agreement. This is what terrifies Ellie and she starts attacking Simon and trying to bury all knowledge of the light. It chose Simon and through fear and jealousy, Ellie wants him dead. This is why it is all “WHAT DID IT SEE IN YOU?”

There are two warring factions, the CoI and Eden. Eden had the last tree in existence but it has wilted and died, this led to them being a bit of a doomer cult and engaging in terrorist activity like the destruction of filament station. Simon was present but chickened out. He was betrayed by his Eden brothers and captured by the CoI. They offered him execution or expedition in the SM13. The CoI are desperately looking for a future for humanity, and they know the blood ocean is a resource. They know their previous ship, the SM8 found something that could be the key to saving humanity. So they send war prisoners into the blood ocean on these expeditions to different coordinates in the secret hope someone will find the SM8. They are aware the whole time there’s something in there, which is why they only send prisoners.

The shadow man you see throughout the movie is Simon after the blood ocean has finally infected him. He will become just like Ellie, and the ocean is showing him this future. That’s why in his main two appearances, him and Simon are in each other’s places. The first time, Simon is in the chair looking towards the console. The next time is the exact same shot but Simon is now at the console looking at the Shadow man by the controls.

At the end of the movie, Sinon’s mantra thought to him by Eden, about his flesh becoming soil, nourishment for the last remaining tree comes true. The pendant he takes from the previous Eden prisoner in the ship, containing a sapling from the last tree, springs to life by consuming Simon, the remaining oxygen and the nutrients from the blood ocean to grow massively. This rapid growth destroys Ellie.

Way too much dialogue was shouted in muffled and distorted voices making it really hard to actually understand what was being said, especially towards the end. When you're dealing with vague "figure it out yourself" backstory you at least should be able to hear the snippets of lore and see what's going on. The film actively pissed me off. No film should rely on you looking up what happened because you sumply couldn't understand the dialogue or see the murky visuals.

I think i get the story but please explain it to me anyways

The flick is nothing but a scary fishy movie. The opening is an irrelevant infodump of random events that have no bearing on the rest of it.

the guy who made it didn't know what he was doing with the sound mixing. it's not a bad movie desu and he's a surprisingly decent actor. but he tried to do everything himself. needed a better editor and a better sound mixer.

>There's an ocean of blood
>There's some creatures on the blood
Fact, established by the opening setting, or later confirmed by the viewer.
>Everything else you said
Unconfirmed schizo ramblings or "source:An hallucinations", no wonder this movie attracts this type of retards, is this a markiplier thing? Like his fans are autistic morons?
This is the kind of guy that says "Aliens are real", and they they'll cite every bit of unreliable disconnected information.
Like a picture of an alien is good, but the testimony of Miss Spuddler+ a wire fence bent in a weird way+online source of two cow disappearing is just as good.
>>
One thing that was a bit of a missed opportunity was that he didn't stumble on one or two structures like you do in the game, I remember finding that neat.

Things that are factual

>there's speculation that the space stations were sent to another dimension instead of the planets and stars but it doesn't explain why they'd see light of stars that no longer exist
>MC was part of an uprising on the destroyed eden space station, where the last (dying) tree was. It is unclear how much he was responsible (he was likely in denial) but he was blamed.
>MC travels through the light to meet a godlike being. It's not clear if he caused the rapture or if it trying to save mankind.
>there are non-human structures and there are structures made out of humans
>The Eel is made up of human body parts, it's strongly implied to be the people in the sub but never confirmed
>Research sub confirmed blood is human and that it mutates people
>There was another person on the sub before him that had a seed from the tree from eden
>eel kills the head researcher woman
>MC fuses with the tree seed, becomes a giant tree that kills the eel and becomes hope for new life or making the blood ocean less deadly
>>
Apparently the frog shows up in one of the photos, anyone know which one?
>>
I liked that Mark's character wasn't a big misunderstood hero who saves the universe.
It was cool that he was a fuck-up who fucks up throughout the whole movie until he eventually dies and does one potentially good (but quite possibly bad who knows) thing by letting the blood touch the seed and make it mutate and grow.
>>
>>221028489
>there's speculation that the space stations were sent to another dimension i
schizo rambling

True

Schizo rambling
>MC travels through the light to meet a godlike being. It's not clear if he caused the rapture or if it trying to save mankind.
schizo rambling hallucination
>there are non-human structures and there are structures made out of humans
schizo rambling unconfirmed if it's made by humans or not
>The Eel is made up of human body parts, it's strongly implied to be the people in the sub but never confirmed
schizo rambling that you never see

Allegedly

schizo rambling

Schizo rambling

True
You do this thing where you state something true to the audience at the start of the sentence and then add schizo rambling made up shit at the end
>>
>>221028628
Did you not pay any attention to any of the flashback dialogue? It has speculation on if they got it wrong and they were the ones raptured. You also fucking see the tree and hear the rebellion leader later say that it's dead .

Because it's deep in a cavern through a network of tunnels at crushing depth and it's built into the rockwork?

A crashing space station doesn't need to go like, brrrr brrr and navigate tunnels to lodge it'self into rockwork
That's the "crash" part of it
>>
>>221029180
>crashed space station
If a space station crashed, everyone would know about it and it would be brought up in the story because space stations are all that's left of humanity.

"rundown that usually requires a few watches"

This is my main complaint. If you watch it once, you don't get nearly enough to know or understand the movie.
It really requires multiple watchings or replays of scenes to understand what they meant to do or say.
That's bad writing and bad editing imo
>>
>>221014660

I was shocked they got rid of the jumpscare where the main character takes a picture and it's of a giant eye because something is literally right outside looking at the sub. It's one of the few things that actually happens in the game, so it's pretty memorable.
>>
>>221030014
The eye you see before the porthole is closed is the lizard. There is a bit of a scare in that you first see the eel in a partially oscured photo behind the main characters back. The film doesn't really spend enough time on the mundane mapping part for it to work

I didn't see shit on the 1.5 second frames the million pics of this movie are displayed
To you it's an easter egg because you probably played the game and spent 10 hours looking at grainy pics.
That's cool.
To me, I didn't find "hills" or "skeletons" at first and I had to take the actor's word for it because I didn't see shit
