How confined are we talking here? My Dinner With Andre tier (a single restaurant table) or À Bout de Souffle tier (the city of Paris)?
>You know why they call it the cockpit?
Yes. Everyone who knows what a cock (animal) and a pit is can come to the very obvious answer without much effort. Now, calling the pilot's chamber that is a bit of a stretch, but who am I to judge?
>What form of transportation makes the best /film/s?

Whose was this again?
Anyway, anyone who has Citizen Kane in his top 10, let alone starts the list with it, is being outright dishonest, larping as a film school prof, or is too autistic to see filmmaking as anything other than a purely technical craft. Either way, such a person should not be taken seriously.

He wasn't. 90% of that monologue was ghostwritten for him. Just like "his" books.
Maybe, just maybe, he picked the film himself. The spontaneous end statement (which misses the point of the extremely simple film, but could be seen as humourous) is also clearly his.
Overall, the essey he reads is strangle written in an unusually sympathetical fashion towards Kane. I assume that whoever wrote it knew that he was supposed to write it in a way that would make it appear like something Trump would say and feel about the film. But it still is too much in line with the standard literary analysis vernicalar to be credible as Trump's own words, even back then.

Hating Kane is a tired cliché and the worst sort of low grade, low IQ, contrarian slopulism. The opinion of the type of people who hold their breath when you tell them they need air to live. It is simply and objectively a top tier film.

>>
>>221186321

>>
>>221186279
>Hating Kane is a tired cliché
True. But loving it is a sign of a deep seated insecurity, herd mentality and the inability to make up your own mind about things.
I low-key believe that part of the reason why the typical film-school demands that students watch it over and over again and hear from their professors how great it is, is actually to encourage them to doubt authority figures and oppose academical consense-opinions. In other words, the curriculum subverts itself to make the student a better human being, a better film-maker (or film-critic) and reward intellectual rigor. Then again ... it's fucking film schools ...

As to what your opinion on Citizen Kane should be: It really doesn't matter. Loving it makes you a complete retard. Hating it makes you a tryhard rebel with no cause. Best to take it for what it is, and not be afraid to both laud it for what it accomplished, while also call it out for when it absolutely does not work (or had no ambition to begin with). But that's just my opinion.
>>
>>221186406
>>221186414
I mean it's not like it's a long movie it's probably worth watching just because it's influential and I think it's generally good to see the source material instead of just 100 references.

https://ok.ru/video/4251873512005

Really liked the modern editing choices, the jazz score (I think it's Dave Brubeck's Take Five), the suave humor and of course the on-location shots of Hong Kong. Very recommendable watch.
>>
>>221186414
"Casa blanca" is Spanish for "White House".
Therefore the film is actually an allegory for American forgeign politics. Audiences were shocked because such wordplay was considered extremely clever for Hollywood standards at the time. This alone earned the film a spot in Hollywood's hall of fame.

>Before the advent of Orson Welles, the most important thing in motion picture technique had been the story, the devising, spacing, and arranging of shots into a plot line that moved easily from one thing to another. Welles, more concerned with exhibiting his impudent showmanship and his deep thoughts about graft, trusts, yellow journalism, love, hate, and the like, fractured his story all along the line, until his film became an endless chain of stop effects. At every instant, the customer was encouraged to pause over some Kubla Khan setting, some portentously lit floor-shot of an actor, or some symbol (the falling-snow toy, the bird screaming in escape), and think in the terms of what it had to tell about a publisher’s immoral pursuit of love-power-respect. The plot was simple enough: a famous man said something (“rosebud”) just before dying in his castle on a mountain, and “March of Time” sent out an inquiring reporter to make a story out of it. Eventually we did get the answer, not through the flash-backed memories of those interviewed—Kane’s oldest friend, his newspaper manager, the girl, the butler in the castle—but in a final nerve-tingling shot, privy to the director and audience, of the “Rosebud” sled of Kane’s lost, barren childhood. The story was presented in such complicated ways and made so portentous with the shadows of meaning cast off by a hundred symbols that you could read almost anything into it, including what Welles had put there. There were certain dramatic high points like the rough-cut in the “March of Time” projection room, the kid outside the window in the legacy scene, and the lurid presentation of an electioneering stage. But in between these was a great deal of talk, much less action, and almost no story.

Then that's okay. Obviously. But let's just say that they need to be very careful not to get thrown in with the cultists. No fault of theirs, but that's what it is when a cult exists. Probably best if they at least acknowledge a few of its smaller flaws to distinguish themselves. That's a healthy stance to take towards your favourites anyway, even if they aren't as difficult to discuss as this particular film.

A great engaging picture building up to a thrilling conclusion. I wonder if there are two ways of interpreting the picture depending on if you're a jealous person yourself. If you are, you'll always think she did it. If you aren't, he's crazy from the jump. Chabrol to me did a good job having my mind bounce back and forth on this.

I one of his other pictures, Story of Women, downloaded from some time ago. I'm definitely interested in seeing more from him. Hopefully it's somewhat calmer. This was tense.

Sidenote: Cluzet pulled off a delightfully accurate depiction of psychosis at the end. I have experience with such symptoms and his body language in the last shot looked authentic. Probably something you wouldn't notice if you didn't know what to look out for. Another movie that pulls off an authentic depiction of psychosis is I Never Promised You a Rose Garden.

In Bergman's interview with Assayas, he mentions that he would compulsively rewatch Pepe le Moko and that Duvivier was a huge inspiration. It kinda caught me off guard.

Must've missed it, but for me it's Ave Lúcifer and the wonderful distortion sound in A minha menina. Have you listened to their later prog period, foreigners usually don't, it's interesting, not as good but it has its charm.

He worked in the industry, so presumably he had access to prints.

Hardly.

I just realized: if a movie made nowadays has couples and none of the couples is rafe mixed (black male required) it's because the director doesn't trust his movie to be good.
Compare this Zendaya-Pattinson movie (teo couples, both raced mixed, black male) with Disclosure Day (two white couples)
Spieoberg knew the movie was going to be bad, so he went with white couples.
The Zendaya-Pattinson movie director knew his movie was good, so he did interacial couples.
>>
>>221200419
You got it the wrong way. Spielberg's movie was bad because it had a mayo couple. The Zendaya-Pattinson movie was good because it had an interracial couple.
