Windu had deficiencies, but he brought pragmatism and disregard for dogma that the council desperately need more of to survive. And then he was one of the best duelists in the galaxy and also all-around very powerful in the Force, as you said.

Qui-Gon was also great and brought many of the same qualities to the table. The Jedi weren't declining because of Jedi like them, it was stagnation and dogma and resistance to change.

Well you see, back when I was younger, I had a friend who was the Queen of Naboo. I’d been off planet for a while, Jedi business on the Pod Racing Circuit. When I met up with her, she told me she’d been deposed. Well, anyway, next thing I know, there’s this big Zabrak buck snarling and leering at me. He’s tatted up to high heavens, black and red all over. He’s pulled a double bladed lightsaber, bloody crimson blades and all, so you knew he meant business. He’s mean mugging me, it’s clear he had to get it on. So I did what I must. Like I said, I’m not proud of it, but I’m not ashamed neither.
