neither does Hollywood capeshit productions with 100m+ budget so I don't see the issue, at least it means low budget horror won't have as appaling effects anymore especially for creature or killer animal movies

Speaking of surreal movies. Trying to find an older one i want to re-watch but i can't remember the name of it.
Only things i remember about it is the main character is plagued by nightmares, ends up in some nightmare world. And a scene where his sofa grows huge teeth and tries to eat him.
I think most of the movie took part in his apartment and this nightmare world.
Late 80s or early 90s.
Rings a bell for anyone?

>, at least it means low budget horror won't have as appaling effects anymore e
I hate to say it but there's really not a lot of argument for not using it for low budget monster scifi. Does it look GOOD? Eh, most shots are at least passable. Does it look GREAT? No, not at all. But in this genre, especially the monster/creature feature subgenre, has pretty much always had eras with ten more "Wow that's shitty" effects for every 1 decent looking one, and in a way it's kind of the charm. Nobody watched Scifi/SyFy monster movies expecting it to look good, the mammoth was gonna look shitty, the Basalisk was going to look shitty, Dinocroc Vs Supergator was going to have double the bad looking monsters, but you still signed up for it for the fun of it and the cheese of it. What, exactly, does AI strip away there? The artistry? But there wasn't any on display, if anything it was miserable from every single solitary interview I've ever seen from FX crews on those productions. I used to read Dread Central forms and any time a crewmember shared their story they were pretty much "Yeah I had two months to design and render this whole thing, they got what they paid for and nothing more." The human connection? But humans never connected to those, meaningfully. They were designed and made to be quick and disposable popcorn flicks. What is missing with an AI addition in this very specific genre?

Now, obviously, bigger budget or more ambitious stuff should avoid it. If you're trying to bring a big concept you need a human touch for every part of it to make it resonate. But creature features? I just can't see the argument. For every OP with it's shockingly good practical effects we have three Bone Eaters with it's... uh... not.

There is 5 Carnosaur movies apparently. Anybody recommend 4 & 5?
>>
>>221327161
4 and 5 aren't actual Carnosaur movies, they're at best unrelated stuff that uses most stock footage from the first two movies for the majority if it's dino scenes. Raptor even has the fucking audacity to change out an actor for his own death scene to use stock footage of someone else dying. Which on its own is weird enough, but the person who's body is on screen is a different race than the guy who got killed.

They're not just bad, they're a full on waste of time because you've already scene the best parts of them, literally, in a different movie. There is no new scene that justifies their existence. This is cinematic inbreeding.
>>
>>221326531

It's worse than Frankenfish overall, especially in the effects department, and you see the fish waayyy less, but narrative wise it's actually freakishly similar to Lake Placid 2 for its plot. If you just wanna see that specific creature on the attack then yeah it's fun. It's even out in full on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuH7WIDtAYU this one that anon posted is a way more fun movie though>>221327521 it's stupid but its that special kind of stupid that makes it actual creature feature fun

It's not acid proof so probably not, even if it got in the upper shell the minute it cracked the exoskeleton it's getting whatever assimilaty parts melted. It's not like it can adapt to new things, fire still worked from start to end.
>Do you think a facehugger could impregnate a Thing?
It's not a singular being so even if it got inside it, it would just try to assimilate the egg and probably kill both in the process. Egg would turn into a melty timebomb the inside of one of the creatures would crack open...

We just see it as combos of terrestrial entities. Assuming that it ate a spider at some point for the spider head form, and a worm in the last one.
I guess that says it can only take forms of the last beings it absorbed, so it has no true form. Or the long stasis made it forget whatever alium form was piloting the ship.
It knows how to build a spacecraft though, so has some internal intelligence.
>>
>>221327860
>Do you think The Thing could replicate a Xenomorph?
Why wouldn't it be able to? It's whole schtick is that it's a perfect imitation. If anything, adding the Xenomorph to it's memories would make it all that much more powerful.
>Do you think a facehugger could impregnate a Thing?
Depending on the form it's currently taking, why not? It would probably convert the egg before it has the chance to hatch, but as to what happens after that, idk.

Just finished. Christ what a stinker. Very feminine, this is a pg-13 at worst and was probably made for TV. The opening clip I posted is the most action there is in the movie and it's borderline fantasy with gypsy medicine women and magic books and dreamy ghost boys and it just sucks. Hilariously the daughter beats the piper by cucking him, lol. Liz is very covered up and they don't play up her sexiness at all. The daughter is a babe. Hated this.

Here's my ideas for the segments

1/2

>Cruise ship inexplicably loses power in the middle of the night, deformed sea creatures climb up the sides and begin killing people, protag is trying to fight them off and get to a lifeboat
>4th of July event on a popular beach, girl filming her bf, he gets stung by a tiny weird-looking jellyfish but seems fine, later at night in their beach house he slowly starts to mutate into something horrible, locks and barricades all the doors with some gross sludge stuff he vomits out that hardens over all the exits, think Moreau from Resident Evil Village. He then goes after his gf as she tries to hide from him, mutates further as the segment goes on.
>Mini-mockumentary about a new species of aquatic worm discovered, it's parasitic and can form a symbiotic environment with almost any type of host. Whole thing is described in a dry clinical sense, it ends with experiments performed with it where a fish, horse, and spider all become hosts, with varying grotesque results, letting the viewer imagine what would happen if it infected a human
>Helmet-cam footage of a stuntman going over Niagara Falls, the first to do it in decades. The stunt is successful, but he gets pulled down into the water which mysteriously is far deeper than it should be. He keeps going down until he gets pulled "up" into a strange temple complex. Segment is him exploring the temple, filled with weird statues and murals of unknown gods. Comes to a room filled with artifacts, ends up getting done in by one of them.
>>
>>221333652
The Niagara segment is a pretty good idea and sounds like something that would be in a VHS movie

2/2

>Guy stranded on lifeboat in the middle of the Pacific with small rations left. He gets more and more crazy as supplies run out, strange stuff starts happening in the water and in the sky (bizarre lights in sky, huge shapes moving in the water under/around him, massive shadowy faces at night staring at him from the horizon that quickly disappears, nights lasting longer and longer). His compass doesn't work right, he doesn't see any ships or plans for days on end, his thirst and hunger mysteriously vanish. Eventually he ends up floating to what appears to be the edge of a flat Earth, he goes over the side, under the Earth are massive frightening eldritch shapes and fractal patterns and loud roaring that comes from everywhere, segment ends with him falling down into it
>Wraparound segment: Childhood fear of "shark in the swimming pool". A dad is filming his son on a summer day, they have a new backyard pool but he's scared to go swimming because he's scared he'll be eaten by a shark. In between the main segments we see footage of his dad filming his son and the pool, putting his hands and feet in, showing him how clear the water is, how it's not even deep enough to fit a shark, how it's filled with chlorine and would kill a shark, how it's impossible for a shark to even get in the pool at all. Finally he hands the camera to his son, tells him to film him, he'll go swimming in the pool himself and prove that there really is no shark there. The kid agrees. He films his dad as he swims. "See son, there's no shark in here. There's nothing to be afrai-" Huge dark tentacles erupt out of the water and drag his dad under as the kid screams, drops the camera and runs
>>
>>221333716
That wraparound idea is KINO. Especially if it's set by the sea, since that's plausible.

Dangerously based. That's actually what gave me the idea for the lifeboat segment, just a more extreme version of it.
>>
>>221333795
I think that episode is one of the best pieces of ff media out there. Actually a lot of the series touches on what I find creepy which is completely unexplained phenomena.
>>
>>221333652
there should be a jellyfish horror. when you think about it they're the zombies of the sea.
>>
>>221333860
The guys who made Blair Witch Project were inspired to make the movie like that because they found that documentaries about supernatural phenomena were often scarier than standard horror movies.
>>
>>221333914
I dunno, once you drop below a certain intelligence level basically all animals are zombies. The entire insect kingdom is operating in autopilot. I think a scarier idea would be a smarter animal, like an octopus, getting zombified. Imagine a horror version of one of those Netflix octopus shows
>>
>>221333919

I watched "Blood on Satan's Claw" (1970) (sometimes titled "The Blood on Satan's Claw"). It's one of the classics of the genre of folk horror, together with "The Wicker Man" and "Witchfinder General". It's set in the 18th century English countryside, locations and costumes are authentic. But the script is a mess. It contains three stories that have been mushed into one, and the one is not very convincing. The devil is worshipped in the countryside, children are murdered, and in the end a judge with a 18th century wig simply takes a big sword, drives it into the devil and lifts him into a burning fire. Wouldn't have thought it would be so easy.
