This was a pretty good folk horror movie but the main father character was obviously a cuck beta male. It is hilarious how they make every male character weak and beta in movies and men irl don’t say or notice.
(It is because majority of men are beta.)
But still, when did weakness become celebrated?

Impossible to make.
To make it well they would need to do it practical and that would far too expensive for a studio to invest in an unproven ip. Instead they would just fill it with shitty cgi and give it to some director who doesn't care for the source and puts his own shit on top.

Most people are usually very divided on what makes a horror movie good. That's why they always end up with mediocre scores such as Weapons with started incredibly high but settled at a 3.6 over on Letterboxd.

Obsession is still as high as ever. People are not divided on it, everyone loves it.

The masses do not step foot into the theatre to watch horror movies. The masses go for slop.
If Obsession was a science fiction movie instead of a horror, it would have made a billy.

The cattle are scared of horror, only true patricians realize the value of creativity that the genre has to offer and they reward such values accordingly. Obsession is a masterpiece and a modern classic. It is the 2020s Exorcist.

You know what's cool now that fable 5 is available again? You can generate full indie horror games and they're actually pretty spooky when you try them because unlike the real ones people recommend, literally anything could happen because nobody has played it before. What was THE horror movie that your cohort of friends saw too young on late night TV? For us it was Event Horizon.

Does that still even happen with kids these days? On the one hand, nobody has tv anymore, on the other there is streaming services with parental controls nobody bothers with so they could have access to everything, but I'm not even sure kids watch movies and pay attention to them anymore. And there's stuff on youtube I guess.

The boogeyman episode of The Outer Limits.
Young children cannot handle the concept of an invisible monster that wants to eat them specifically.
>>
>>221508928
I never really watched the outer limits, but I caught glimpses of it now and then. The thing that always stuck with me was little monster/gremlin things, or maybe it was little grey aliens were holding a guy down and started sawing his fingers off with a small pocket knife. That freaked me out for a while.

There is a Exorcist Directors Cut or something and part of it is original 1990 quality. No way your youtube video was that bad.

I think this is why creepypastas and mascot horror is so popular, because that's kid's exposure to horror now.
Before it was scary covers at the VHS store or late night horror shows, now it is the internet and probably adjacent to whatever fandom you're in.

What we've been saying is true - modern films suck. Critics keep hailing Babadooks as masterpieces and they're not. This was an actual great film and so it looks like Tiger Woods showed up at a putt-putt.
The mechanics of it are just like why the best bands are great - all the members are great at what they do.
Obsession had excellent cinematography, excellent soundtrack, excellent acting, excellent direction. You don't need an original story when you have that, a classic one is good enough.

>Primarily set during the early 1990s and late 2000s, The Mandela Catalogue takes place within the fictional Mandela County, located in Wisconsin, which is terrorized by shape-shifting creatures named Alternates. Alternates, led by a false depiction of the Archangel Gabriel, are nearly-immortal beings that aim to eradicate humanity by psychologically torturing them to the point of suicide. The Alternates can manipulate audiovisual media, such as televisions, personal computers, and vehicle GPS systems.[1][2]

It's in presentation. A demon wanting to torment people so they kill themselves isn't edgy, it's just a horror plot. If the movie itself is just gore and people dissecting their own balls in extreme closeup then its edgy.
>>
>>221517311

Not him, there's a more recent version where a millennial girl is taken out to a cabin in the woods as in intervention by her friends to kick the habit, and then she invokes the demons in the book, leaves her friends to die horribly and she's the one who survives in the end. It's not a good movie.

Just finished. Very stupid and very bloody gothic urban fantasy, with super assassins and absinthe bars and a story about vampires using online dating to catch prey. There's a very cool scene at the beginning with Mena Suvari bathing in the blood of three cheerfully eager girls getting decapitated. Stephen Dorff plays a crazy vampire again and Tyrese gets tangled up in the axle of a cadillac. Had a real early 2000s vibe.

Am I an incel? I walked away from Obsessive wondering why she didn't appreciate Bear killing himself.
>>
>>221520511
>incel
90% of men are born incels and when they turn 20+ and get their gfs/wives, they have to pay for it with providing and emotions and relationships.
This whole men calling men incels is just cope for being low status.
When girls use that word, it is projection. Gurls fear not being undesired or no friends or liked, so all their insults are “no one likes you” or “you have no friends.”
Hope that clears things up.
>>
>>221520586
By incel, I mean hate women. I've got a wife, and 2 side-chicks, 1 that my wife approves of. With most women, hate is just love. With the girl in the movie, I was just so annoyed.
>>
>>221518201
Yeah, but you wouldn’t know he is gay unless someone told you. Either way, Obsession was not terrible and good for a watch without leaving a bad taste in your mouth. It definitely spreads through word of mouth hard cause the movie was clearly zoomer-centric and zoomers are a loser generation so they all piled onto the bandwagon. Also, zoomers are growing up into a world where there is extreme polarization. Rich vs poor. And the whole “incel” thing. 90% of men have always been incels, thats why the term “betamale provider” exists. Incel is just the new term for zoomers.
