Definitely not the highest quality anthology but I like it a lot. I got really sick one Halloween and I was forced to stay inside for days and it played on TV along with The Company of Wolves. Been watching it almost every October since then.
Solid cast too.

I finally got around to watching Murnau's "Faust" (1926). 100 years old and still a very good film. Gösta Ekman is top billed as Faust, but Emil Jannings steals the show as Mephisto. Great sets with depth, plus very early special effects done with double exposure. Even though it's a silent movie you can perfectly follow the motivations of the characters, the script is better than many scripts that are turned out today.
>>

>I got really sick one Halloween and I was forced to stay inside for days
I know what that's like. I once got the flu and got it bad, but that's how I finally got to watch Twin Peaks. (Seasons 1 & 2.)

>Disconnected (1984)
It was clearly meant to be somewhat of an arthouse horror, but the line kind of becomes blurred and leaves you wondering if some parts, including the plot, were just poorly executed or it was on purpose
>Messiah of Evil (1972)
This movie was shot but not finished. The footage was then bought and given to an editor who was completely removed from the original film. So, it's unknown how similar it is to what it was originally intended to be and how much of it is the editor just doing what he could with the footage he had.
>The Last Slumber Party
Technically bad/fails on every level imaginable.

Mario Bava's Black Sabbath is a fun anthology film. The band actually got its name after seeing the movie in the cinema. The Drop of the water (pic related) is the best segment. It worked even if the mask looks kinda silly.

Just finished. Darker than I was expecting, which was appreciated. For a moment when the full premise is revealed, I actually got frightened for the lead characters. Kudos to going all in on the villain as a villain. The black friend is hideous. Kind of a Hostel vibe what with the whole subculture being teased.

Hollywood takes pride in not doing that anymore. Comic book adaptation? Don't read the comic book. Showrunner for Starwars or Star Trek? Don't watch the original trilogy / show. Who knows, doing that might throw their sense of entitlement and diversity off balance for a minute.

Just finished. Pretty agonizingly slow rape revenge that plays more like a eurospy travelogue. A fashion model type young lady wears beautiful clothes on beautiful trains and planes on her way to fashionable cities, and seduces old dudes for a LONG time before quickly dispatching them with sewing shears or running them over. So boring but groovy music and gorgeous locations. Jess Franco fans might get a little out of this.

Watched this because it was one of the only 4th of July horror movies I hadn't seen. Not really horror, more of a zombie comedy-romance. It wasn't good, but it also could have been a lot worse. Main actress does a good job with the character.

It's somewhat cheesy, but I don't want to make it sounds like it's a cheap movie by any means. The directing is actually pretty decent and the cast seems to be playing it up for comedic effect. Plus it's got Robert Englund and Lin Shaye, two horror legends. The kills are fun and gory, kinda giving the same feeling as a Leprechaun film. You should definitely check it out if that's your thing.

I kinda liked that they gave the cube an actual reason for someone to want to open the damn thing to begin with.It was getting a bit monotonous when in ever Hellraiser movie someone opened it ''on accident'' or ''just for the lolz''.
Also
Pinheads' character was already out as the leader of cenobites from the previous instalment of the series anyways
so the most dissapointing aspect of it is that they just went with lady Pinhead when every other cenobite ,except the chattering teeth one, was a brand new design.
>>
>>221548746
Pinhead is such an iconic design, though. I think I'd have been disappointed if they scrapped it.

Although the cenobites weren't bad, I think they lacked the intimidating quality of the originals. Being nude instead of leatherbound makes them seem vunerable, corpselike, less lordly. Lacked the BDSM touch.
The masque one was the best.

Just finished. Agonizing psychodrama from the director of Last House on Dead End Street. Woman is in a psych ward because she saw her parents drown as a kid, gets sent home to her empty mansion and snaps for no reason some night her doctor comes over for dinner. The sound is earpiercing. I'll give him it gets intense at the ending, lol. I was mostly interested because apparently Watkins made a comedic mockumentary during the making of this because he hated doing it so much.

Indeed. It's a mix of stories made into one. I would love to see an adaptation of The Crawling Chaos, might be hard doing those opium dreams/nightmares but still.
