Does anyone here remember a Spanish horror movie with a guy turning into a demon and a Jesus on the cross in the background but the color of the wall in yellow or orange and there's probably not a cross.

I remember it as a child and it caused me nightmares. Thank you. I love you :)

yeah hi I'm a big fan of this movie. the thing is is that you're like oh yeah it's just a movie about a castle with a freak in it ha ha ha but there I feel like there were attempts to actually have some kind of point to this movie because there's so many parallels between John and the Freak and them being related and it's like for every relationship in this movie there's some kind of analogous relationship between other characters and it just weaves this web that you think is going to pay off in some emotionally resonant way where it says something about family or something but it just doesn't and it kind of doesn't ever come together and frustrates me and then ends on a really down note. and then you have other "Freak" movies as I like to call them in this genre such as Barbarian aka AirBnB Freak and then that Tubi movie Match is basically the same type of thing so watch those if you're into basement freaks.

The Gate (1987)
I guess Rosemary's Baby is cliche, but it's literally 'you don't know who is a satanist.'
The Blood on Satan's Claw if you want to go folk-horror.
Trick or Treat (1986) is making fun of the satanic panic.
>>
>>221591272
The Ninth Gate
The Omen

Alucarda's unknown, I'll look for it.

>>221591446
So the best of both world? A retro look, but without the hysterical women constantly shrieking? I dislike that in old movies.

>>221591594
I'm more looking for that kind of horror where you get paranoid.
Like a political thriller where anyone can be an assassin, except it's satanists.
>>
>>221591721
>without the hysterical women constantly shrieking?
oh boy, don't watch Alucarda then, the whole appeal is the women are constantly screaming.
and Love Witch is explicitly feminist.
>>
>>221591721
Well you're asking for a lot, because out of the old satanic panic films that are more thrillers, there aren't many good ones Rosemary's Baby and The Omen.
The Devil Rides Out is alright but it's set in the 20s.
To The Devil A Daughter probably fits the theme most accurately, but it's not the greatest film. Outside of the infamous... Christopher Lee performance of course!
You probably want Kill List, even though it's a newer film.

Yeah, sorry about that. Still, I'll check these.
I'm looking for old movies out of laziness: they tend to be on youtube or archives, so no need to buy them.

>>221591970
Oooh, that sounds nice too. Another to the list.
>>
>>221592111
Nah it's understandable it's just that it's one of those genres you'd expect there to be more bangers than there are. Same with Werewolf films, they're underpowered compared to Vampire films.

I'm very uneasy with pedophilia. I like Satanic Panic because it offers the potential for a really deep mystery that starts normally, and turns into demon possession and really weird shit.

Pretty lame how every horror movie now has the protagonist be pre-traumatized by the thing that the main plot of the movie is a metaphor for. Feels like they think the audience is too stupid to understand it otherwise.
>>
>>221592463
big grain of salt but I've heard it's better than Rise. manages a bit more comedic moments, but also gorey.
>>
>>221592486
bonerkill if the word "grief" turns up in the summary
>>
The problem with horror now is that it's just eating itself and shitting itself back out. People making horror movies now have no new ideas, they just want to pay homage to other horror movies that were already successful. "Horror" has become too specific, too recognized, too impersonal. The whole genre is just going through the motions.

i saw your/tv/ post. you want satanic panic but you're uneasy with pedo shit? you're not familiar with the mcmartin preschool case or the finders cult? both are heavily alluded to in FAITH - surely an artistic masterpiece but commercial, heavily sanitized for your ilk. you're okay with 70x7 newborns slaughtered for a cheap gimmick boss fight, but sexual assault on them makes you heckin uncomfortable. airdorf knew this and tailored the game for sick babies like you. "satanic panic" was the media cover-up deflecting to dungeons & dragons and shit, but it was very much real. those were the "epstein files" of the day, but it was much easier to deflect and deny and cover up back then. and even today insane pussies like you would prefer children be ritualistically slaughtered than sexually assaulted.

Just finished. Really, really terrible pile of nothing from ex-porn star Tabitha Stevens and her husband, who directed Bikini Carwash Company 2. Tabitha is looking for her estranged brother, a clown serial killer, and wanders around looking at shacks in the desert until she finds him in one of them. Absolutely noting happens, not even Tabitha takes her clothes off. She doesn't even get dressed like a clown until the last shot of the movie (which is also the poster.)

so what's the /hor/ verdict on Obsession (2025)? I just watched it and had skipped most of the discussion. I enjoyed it but I had to ignore some of the dumber stuff. If wishes are taken literally in this world why does Nikki become possessed by a demon? Felt like the story was just throwing a bunch of shit to the wall to make her spooky.
>>
>>221597172
i don't understand why they're calling him an incel
he doesn't fit the incel archetype
he's nice enough to have friends
even got a secret admirer who's also a long time friend of his
he's not resentful of his inability to get the girl he's crushing on and it doesn't seem like she finds him all that creepy or stalker-ish, maybe pathetic and later rapey? but that's about it
and to address your point it's probably just to make him, and the audience, realize that she is aware of what's going on and that she very much does not like it, just to lessen the ambiguity of the situation
>>
>>221597244
The incel term lost all meaning about 30 seconds after it was created.
>>
>>221597244
Fun fact: normies don't know what an incel is. Actual incels are invisible to them unless they're relatives. Bear is as close to an incel as they are capable of envisioning outside of a comedic context, he's a normal guy who isn't confident, which, is to them, all they think an incel actually is. See Mr. Robot.

It's great but definitely heavily carried by Nikki's acting.

The writing is interesting, the character dynamics are extremely well done and it's rare to see a genre film tackle ideas like that where the whole friend group is kind of evil and shitty because they can't set boundaries with each other or define what their relationship actually is. That kind of delayed adolescence depiction is what really sets it apart and why it struck a chord with the 20-35 crowd especially.

At the same time the writing can be kind of sloppy as far as the actual plot points like after the party (where nobody called 911 apparently) Bear just drives Nikki to the hospital (presumably) a nurse just accepts that Nikki refuses treatment despite being very obviously psychotic.

As for how the willow wish works exactly I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing that we never get an explanation for exactly how it works or how a wish could go wrong. If anything it goes against the modern horror standards of demons and magic needing rules that humans/the aduience can easily comprehend when the whole point of the concept is it's supposed to be something humans don't fully understand anyway.
>>
>>221597244
yeah most people are vile and just want to hate men. "He's a sniveling weasel creep who deserved what he got!" "What a piece of shit coward!" He's just a shy dude. Fake Nikki is such an abuser in the relationship.
My point is that in the movie wishes are taken literally, so the most that should've happened is her personality should've changed, and we would've seen how this itself could be very bad. The "Get Out" type possession resulting from a wish of "I wish she would love me more than anyone in the world" doesn't make any sense and only served to set up the weird backwards walking scenes
>>
Looks like we're getting a new Wicker Man related film and maybe a Summerisle prequel focusing on the ancestor of Lord Summerisle who was exiled if this one is a success. I'm kind of hyped but at the same time I feel like it couldn't really offer anything new that hasn't already been done in folk horror before but we will see. I at least hope it'll be better than The Wicker Tree
>>
>>221597326
Being a real incel is such an unthinkable scenario for normies that they literally can't imagine what it's like, so they have to put regular men in movies instead.
>>
>>221597394
I remember seeing stories during covid lockdowns how normies were going crazy without having sex for a week. These fuckers really don't see others as people.

Have you seen Attack The Block? Doesn't quite meet the criteria on several levels but it's probably the closest you'll get.

>>
>>221597333
The delayed adolescence is interesting, I haven't thought about that all. They all look like late 20's, and they're sitting in their sleepy old fashioned town doing nothing. for me it was a weird blend of times/eras kind of like it follows, unsettling backgrounds.

How ambiguously defined the relationships within the friend group is I think is the whole core of the movie
>bear thinks he likes nikki despite not being that close to her actually
>sarah likes bear
>nikki is hooking up with ian nsa but will call bear in the middle of the night and say "you're the only one i can talk to" even though she's aware of his feelings towards her
>ian gives bear advice to bear to supposedly get with nikki but possibly gives intentionally bad advice
>ian gets jealous of bear and thinks nikki is only dating him to make him feel bad and couldn't possibly see bear as a romantic partner (bear is our only pov character so we never get to know if this is just information ian actually has or he's just making more assumptions out of jealousy since he lost his fuckbuddy)

Also I don't know if it's intentional or not but Nikki taking the $20 from Bear to give to a bum and Bear thinking it made her a good person sat really strangely with me and I think shows both of them are kind of shitty people.

Sarah is the only one who doesn't really do anything wrong but even she falls to the inability to define roles in the friend group beyond "hanging out" despite not being able to move on from the friend group. If the movie wasn't horror and just a straight drama the friend group still would have imploded
>>
>>221597752
I'm saying that it doesn't matter who the lead actor is, if they're black, the movie is automatically hated.
>>
>>221597172
Unironically one of the best horrors of the last decade. A lot of people hating on it are doing so because it's popular (or they're sociopathic boomers).
But the incel discussion is fucking funny. Bear and Nikki are both bad people. Neither of them deserved their fates.
>why does Nikki become possessed by a demon?
She doesn't.
Bear wished that she would love him. She fundamentally doesn't though. For her to love him, either she has to be a different person, or he has to be a different person. So the wish put a version of Nikki into her body that loved him.
It's not a demon. Just a manic version who loves him more than anyone else.

As for the possession I'm not convinced. Why does she have to be a different person? Why doesn't her personality just change to love bear and everythng else stays the same? Why the backwards walking/ forgetting very recent memories / floor shitting? Why couldn't he just say "Nikki, if you truly love me, you will do anything I say. So stop doing weird shit" and she would do it

The whole thing is Bear's wish is fundamentally retarded and evil. Instead of improving himself he wanted to force someone else to be something they weren't but didn't even word it in a way that relayed actually what he wanted which was "I wish Nikki was the person I want her to be"

It'd be like if you were a professional athlete and instead of wishing you were stronger and faster you wished everyone else let you win.

I cannot believe that anyone who cares about horror could hold such a dogshit opinion.
The 'modern horror standards' of supernatural elements requiring rules is 'standard' because not doing so makes for shitty stories. It is also not 'modern' given that you can see rules tracing back to pre-Christian superstitions about demons and the supernatural.

Fundamentally, supernatural threats are stronger than the human protagonists. Rules help provide limits that gives the audience the belief that the humans could theoretically triumph. The events of a film should be finding out whether the protagonists can triumph over the supernatural threat and therein lies the tension that makes the film compelling. A supernatural threat with no rules or limitations takes all the tension away because at any point the threat could just decide to explode the organs of the protagonists and that's it, movie is over. Everything that happens for the first 90 minutes does not matter because at any time the demon could have snapped its fingers and killed them.

The rules do not need to be made clear to the protagonists. Ringu is a good example where a big part of the film is trying to figure out what precisely the rules even are. Final Destination and Nightmare on Elm Street sort of work like that too. But the audience needs to believe that there are consistent rules that govern what a supernatural force can and cannot do.

The exception is [genuine] cosmic horror but the number of good cosmic horror stories can probably be counted on one slightly-mutated hand so I'm treating that as an outlier. Obsession is not cosmic horror and if the wishing willow needs to be understood by the audience as consistent and operating under rules or else the narrative falls apart.

You don't need to post your retarded mental diarrhea on /hor/ either but here we are.

I do not know if you are being intentionally disingenuous or are just actually profoundly retarded but there is a difference between explaining something and demonstrating that something exists.

At no point does A Nightmare on Elm Street explain how Freddy turned into a demon. The supernatural aspect is never explained. The rules and limitations of his abilities are communicated to the audience (and eventually the characters) very clearly: He can invade your dreams and is able to cause you harm in the waking world. The audience understands that Freddy cannot make Nancy's head explode Scanners-style in the middle of the afternoon nor can he show up at a pool party and massacre a bunch of teenagers in the 'real world'. If he did either of those things people would, rightly, say that the movie was dogshit because it contradicts the rules that were demonstrated (but never explained) to the audience.

I had two corn dogs for breakfast which I bought from the local gas station for under five dollars and have since made $400 from selling worms. Tonight I'll spend $100 dollars to ship 100 niggers to the UK so they can rape Kier Starling. Then I'll read some comic books.

How many corn dogs, on average, would you say you eat a day?
>>
>>221601314
Probably 2/120.
>>
I never get one corn dog. It's always two when I get them. Two or three times in a year.

I'm gonna hijack two commercial airliners and fly them into the world trade center. Thank you for your attention.

It comes in waves but I think we're currently in a Thing is underrated era because people are praising things like Obsession for it's lighting like it invented looking like an Apple TV show which says to me people haven't watched The Thing recently.

Just finished. Has more plot than Muck, but still borderline plotless. This guy has a way of filming girls so that it seems like you're seeing them naked but juust not quite. The villain has a double headed chainsaw like Darth Maul, it's great. Has a kinda nutty third act.
