I don't even dislike Guinan but I definitely see the flaws of her character. She's very two-dimensional and was created at the drop of a hat because one of the biggest stars in the world at the time, Whoopi Goldberg, told them that she wanted to do the show. They had to make her high profile in some way even as a guest character so they made her some mystical, super undefined person that everyone just believes rarely without even being second guessed. She's alright and she can be used well (like in Best of Both Worlds) but the show doesn't really need her and she kind of sticks out. I understand why some people have an issue with her. She adds a certain incongruent burr onto what is otherwise a very smoothly edged show with the folksy wisdom routine. I'm not even trying to be racist calling her a "magical negro;" it just so happens to perfectly describe her archetype.
