If you look into the reasons why America wanted to be independent, it doesn't really stand the test of time. 1st reason was they wanted to keep their slaves, the British were starting to free slaves and abolish the whole thing (one of the things that really worked for the British army was that if you signed up you became a free man and under Britain's protection). 2nd reason was that rich American land owners didn't want to pay tax to the British for building up an entirely new country and protection from Frenchmen, blow the common American folk who needed this. 3rd was that the same American land owners wanted to fuck over the natives, while the Brits wanted to work with the decent ones.
