I am certain I was being followed by someone while driving home late ome night. I had a sudden gut feeling of 'danger' while driving. I got off the highway thinking maybe there was something coming up or wrong with my car. Then the car behind me followed me off, even though I exited last minute and quickly. Then I pulled into a random parking lot quickly and they drove off. My sense of danger immediately went away. Then I saw them turn around at the end of the road so I drove around random neighborhoods to make sure I lost them and verify they weren't following me anymore. Might have been paranoia but something like that never happened before or since.
Have a couple supernatural things happen too, but those are longer /x/ related stories.

Just finished. Pretty good psycho killer character study that had an aura that was, dare I say it, Lynchian? I mean that on the low end of the spectrum, haha, it occasionally felt a little like a season two episode of Twin Peaks, especially cause the lead looks vaguely like a young David Lynch, lol
Anyway, this guy works at an NYC morgue and one day lo and behold his oneitis that he obsesses over shows up in his morgue, dead. He's shattered, but then becomes obsessed with the idea that she was buried alive and things progress from there. It's got a similar vibe to Nekromantik but much less gross during the first half, but he gets more unhinged and psycho as things go on. The makeup is very good, they keep the live actress in it as the girl's corpse decomposes, and they switch between showing us as she physically is and as he sees her. The dead girl is gorgeous and shows her tits plenty. Like I said, pretty good, I see why Mondo Macabro picked it up.

I have a regular boring ghost stories but the most terrifying "spooky" thing to ever happen to me was when I was around 10 and cycling around the lakes near me, I went down a path into some woods I hadn't been before and fell into a ditch/pit surrounded by dead trees, on the trees were loads of handmade voodoo dolls with pins in them, obviously in retrospect it was just some older kids messing around in the woods but it really did spook little me.
>>
>>222091390
>on the trees were loads of handmade voodoo dolls with pins in them
I had a friend who had a similar experience. 37 years later, he was decapitated in a massive train crash.
>>
>>222089449
A random ass video changed to some analog horror style shit out of nowhere then went back to normal, the guy didn't bring it up and didn't answer my comment, so idk if i imagined it or not and it was such a random "filler noise" video that i can't find it anymore.

On a true real life level, never had any supernatural experiences as far as i know of, tho i do believe in it to some extent.

When I was young my parents left my sisters and I at home to go watch some sports game, probably one of the first times we were left alone as kids.
But out the window we saw the strangest lightning. Never seen anything like it since, red glowing flashes and no thunder. We were convinced it was aliens, scared us for sure.

When I was a kid I saw the hat man for months
All I can say is that I'm so fucking old that there was certainly no internet in my childhood, no cross contamination
In fact the horrifying moment came years later when I saw all the creepypastas and shit and realized that he wasn't some singular whim of my retarded kid brain, that plenty of other people had seen the exact same motherfucker

Even now I struggle, what's the rational explanation? The human shape sure, that's brain chemistry 101, but why did we all see him in that stupid fucking hat?
>>
>>222089449
Not really, but something very odd did happen. Somehow I got lost in my room. I could navigate my room blindfolded and it's not big either. I woke up in the middle of the night and needed to go to the bathroom. I turned left and began to walk to reach my door, but it took way longer than it should have. Somehow I ended up stumbling into my closet, which is impossible. My closet is going straight from my bed, not left, and it's the same distance away as the door. So how the fuck did I end up in my closet? I still have no fucking clue and it has bothered me all these years later.

Watched Exit 8 over the weekend. Pretty good aside from the main character being an annoying, coughing faggot for 95% of the movie. Also finished Tales From the Crypt. Some pretty kino episodes in season 7. WTF were they thinking with that animated final episode, though? Also, the sound mix is completely fucked. You can barely hear the Cryptkeeper's narration, but if you turn the volume up enough to hear him the rest of the audio blows your head off.

Not really. Used to have Sleep Paralysis as a kiddo, thinking there were monsters in the closet.

Also, not scary in itself, but I have have something I call "vertigo", amd it's when I lay down in the dark (in bed or whatever), and the room "breathes". The room gets bigger, then smaller. It feels pleasurable to me (especially if I smoked a bunch of dope before), but it kinda looks like the staircase dolly zoom in Vertigo(/High Anxiety)

I’ve seen all but two (maybe three?) of these. I love Ringu and the one where sadako joins a theatre troupe. The rest are pure slop. The sequels are obsessed with sadako trying to be reborn but that’s pure dogshit as a concept because she’s not scary as a dangerous psychic, she’s scary because she’s a video that will kill you if watch it unless you doom someone else to die. I watched "Haunter" (2013). Found it kind of boring. What might have been an interesting story was drawn out way too long. It's Groundhog Day, but supposed to be scary, we get it. This should have been a 40 minute episode of a weekly TV show.

Great corpsification scene though. Overall maybe a 4.5/10.

This happened to me once on foot, I was walking home from a friend's house at around 3am and had this nagging feeling I was being watched or followed. I made a few turns that made no sense and could still hear footsteps far away. For some reason I can't explain instead of running home or going back into a well-lit area, I felt compelled to go into a dead end alley and then, once I reached the end I started walking back towards the mouth of the alley. Just as a I got half way, two figures entered the alley but I couldn't make them out because they were backlit. I stopped, they took a few steps towards me but when I started walking again they turned around and left. When I got back to the street there was no one in sight, I still felt very uneasy all the way home but could no longer hear footsteps.
For a long time this bothered me but today I figured maybe they wanted to mug me but changed their mind when they lost the element of surprised and ran hard which is why I didn't see them, but I distinctly remember there was no running footsteps sound, just normal walking.

not me, but my parent's house has an allegedly haunted room and multiple people have said they felt a hand on their neck in bed or heard whispers, my brother and his gf even went as far as dragging the mattress into the corridor instead of sleeping there. Meanwhile I sleep there everytime I visit and haven't seen shit.

In our childhood home though, from ages 6 to 8 I would regularly see some barechested kid crawl out from the plumbing under the bathroom sink and wander around the house. I don't really remember much beyond what my parents told me but I had to go see a psych because I was so convinced it was real.

The summer I turned 10 a couple of neighborhood kids and I broke into an abandoned house in the countryside, came in through the basement window. Everything was gone as the house has been for sale for over a decade now, but up in the attic there was a mannequin left in a corner, the kind without a head but with limbs so you could put clothes on display. Someone had drilled a hole in one the hand parts and put what I can only describe as a wand or short, polished switch in the hand. As soon as we saw that we all felt It was wrong to be here and left running. Again probably nothing, but the wand thing is very strange. The next time I went to that part of the country I was 16 and the house had been sold to an old Dutch couple that wanted to make an inn out of it.

Not spooky, but when I was 13 I went trick or treating with my best friend and my little brother. Very ordinary night, not much loot since our area didn't do Halloween as a big thing so most houses weren't really prepped. But then we get to this one place that has all the lights out but the one above the porch and the whole porch area has a glass veranda over it so that you have to open the front of it to get to the front door (I hope this makes sense). So we figured the owners must be home but maybe they're upstairs or something and ring the bell at the front door hoping for candy. No response at first, we ring again andhear a voice inside, we can't hear shit so just say ''Hello?'' but just more muted voice from the inside. So we knock on the door and suddenly someone is BANGING on the inside and howling. We're scared shitless so obviously turn in the direction of the exit: just behind the door is a tall figure in a dark trenchcoat with one of those Balinese masks on holding up a chainsaw it was off. My brother denies it but I'm pretty sure he pissed himself. Loud banging behind us, scary masked figure in front, that was the most scared I felt until that point in my life. Of course the dude took the mask off as soon as he got a good scare out of us and then his wife opened the door and gave us candy, they made a little fun of us but were nice enough. I left thinking every house should try and pull that kind of shit, but I think it only worked because of how unpopular trick or treating was in our area.

When I was in 4th or 5th grade, I went with my parents to one of my sister's swim meets. I left the pool room and was walking alone in the hallway of the school near the entrance. A big brown or black dog turned the corner nearest the entrance, looked at me, growled, then walked out. I went to look for it, but didn't see which way it had gone after going back outside. In retrospect, life seemed to get increasingly dull after that. I think that's the night I lost my innocence. I think about it a lot.

Yes, Kurosawa always intended for it to be an unconventional horror film: https://letterboxd.com/journal/kiyoshi-kurosawa-chime-serpents-path-interview/

>Q: For the Belfort Entrevues Film Festival, you once played a game of “double features”. With each of your films screened there, you associated a film from your personal pantheon. Which films might you associate with Serpent’s Path and Chime?

>A: Regarding Serpent’s Path, it was a film that I made such a long time ago, so I am having a difficult time remembering what headspace I was in back then. This answer is not necessarily limited to Serpent’s Path but, back then, I was making genre films. These V-cinema films were basically yakuza or gangster movies, but I remember I wanted to shoot them as if they were horror films. Even though the genre is that of gangster film, I wanted to shoot it in a way that was horror, in such a way that a ghost or a dead body could appear at any moment.

>The reason why I was interested in doing so was actually The Silence of the Lambs—which is a very famous film that many people have seen. I remember being taken by this film, because it was ultimately a crime or detective story, and yet it felt like a horror film. It was shot as if it was a horror film. Of course, there are no ghosts that appear in it, but it still felt like horror.

>When I watched this, I felt this was something that perhaps I could replicate while making films in Japan. This is a very specific memory that I have from watching that film. I started to think about how I can shoot non-horror stories to feel like horror stories. Out of that came my film Cure, which was the film I made before Serpent’s Path. Both of these films ultimately are not horror narratives, yet they feel like horror films.

His views on horror is very interesting because to a Japanese person, especially from his generation, horror typically just means supernatural ghost stories and then he made one of the GOAT psychological horrors

Watching Sleepy Camp III: Teenage Wasteland. I like Sleepy Camp II quite a bit, even though it doesn't work too well as a sequel to the first Sleepy Camp. Sleepy Camp III, however, is an excellent sequel to Sleepy Camp II. More Angela shenanigans, more offensive humor, more crazy kills, more nudity and, dare I say, better-looking breasts. Suffice to say, it rounds out the Sleepy Camp trilogy rather nicely.

That's the point though. You don't expect anything horrific to occur at all but then it suddenly does. It establishes that a murder can suddenly happen at any point without warning carried out by ordinary people just going through their daily routine in a completely mundane setting and that music then never plays again because it served its purpose. The entire song only lasts for like a minute. There's barely any more music at all during the remaining two hours of the film.

Just finished. Another shorts binge from my watchlist
1/2
Death Walks On Nitrate (2020)
Same director as Viola vs. the Vampire King. Not much to this, he admits he just had an image he wanted to shoot and forced a narrative to get it. The short sucks, but kudos to him for sticking with his Super 8 aesthetic.
https://youtu.be/p-geG6F693Q?si=YQVLK3OKwDGqND7t&t=2451
Doom of Dracula (1966)
The Dracula subplot from House of Dracula condensed into a Super 8 digest version. Not really a short, just watched it out of curiosity.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03Z0bQCtVk8
Third Dimensional Murder (1941)
A demo short for anaglyph 3D. They have a comedic narrator on a first person walk through a haunted house with lots of stuff poking straight into the camera. This presentation has the two images stacked in a column instead of overlaid in red & blue so it's a tough watch, but all the other elements are stuff I love.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=651vmupn-lM
Seeing Green (2018)
Awful feminine comedic short about some bitch getting revenge on brides to be with a cake that makes them bitches. I must've added this because it has an actress I thought was hot in it, and I like the redhead who makes the cake but this SUCKS.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzFcxBykQmk
The Hidebehind (2018)
Short by the director of the Smile movies. Very simple, shot in the woods with one guy, but he nails the gimmick of the short. He fumbles hard by deciding to show us the monster, though, ruins his own short.

Evilio Vuelve (1995)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgHu-PY4VdY
Pair of shorts from the director of the Torrente movies. I guess people in Spain see him as an Adam Sandler type or something, I google translated the letterboxd reviews for these and people seem to hate the guy. These are both about a gross hobo type (played by the director), who kidnaps people to punish them for minor sins. In the second he kills an old woman for offering him cookies when there are children starving in China, I think. Watched these unsubtitled and I don't speak Spanish, so I may have missed some of the humor but I'm pretty sure I caught the gist of it. The second video is somebody filming the short on a monitor with their phone, LMFAO. If there's a better way to see this I'll rewatch. Had some cute girls in these.
Das Clown (1999)
Feels like a Conan O'Brien sketch or something. Slideshow of a story of an evil clown doll and an old man. Twist ending. Not all that funny and definitely not even trying to be scary. Apparently people remember this from airing on IFC and the video has the old IFC Channel logo on it. John Popper from Blues Traveler narrates.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPNJr4_cu5E
The October Garden (1983)
Homemade feeling little B&W short about some kids and a guy with a small cornfield who hates trespassers. Opens with a Ray Bradbury short and seems like it wants to be like something he would write. Not very impressive but you can tell there was talent behind it.

Skin of Man (2021)
First actually good thing I've watched doing these shorts binges. I'm a Dan Deacon fan so that's how this came to my attention. Two girls and a guy go into the woods, drop acid, and maybe see some tree/cave people. That's it. But the shooting is very stylish and polished, I'll probably rewatch this. Watched on the director's website.
https://www.jimmyjoeroche.com/skin-of-man
My Love (1994)
Sad and ugly little Amiga animation from the director of Midori about a sad girl with an ugly boil on her face and a sad, trollish, ugly little midget or child that falls in love with her. Sad and ugly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zXk1GxNJTA
Hands of Purple Distances (1962)
Complete bullshit from I think Croatia. Some bitch makes wide eyed faces in the woods, some shots of a horse and buggy, lots of screeching. Worthless.

Any mockumentaries where the camera crew discovers something that is way bigger than they ever imagined?
>>
>>222119535
Malevolence 1 was rough, but had potential as a concept. Had a made-for-tv quality take on Friday the 13th Part 2.

Malevolence 2 was better only for camera quality, acting, and direction, but it was a far more boring film.

On to Malevolence 3 now.
>>
>>222119955
Got 17 minutes and 30 seconds into Malevolence 3 and turned it off. Back to rough and with a cheap mid 2000s digital camera feel. The retained none of the quality increase of 2, and have worst acting than 1. One thing Malevolence 1 did that annoyed me was having sudden loud music stings whenever the killer appeared in the background of a shot, and it's back to doing that in Malevolence 3. 3 has more cliches than 1 had as well. Feels like it's worst for its time since this was made in 2018. Also a bold choice revealing your Jason/Myers ripoff as an emo twink. Not gonna waste my time with this one.

Found Footage is kind of like that, they are shooting a behind the scenes while they film a Bigfoot movie and then the movie gets real dark (and no, it's not that they find the real Bigfoot).
Other than that there are a ton of low budget found footage films about people investigating a low level paranormal event that is more powerful than they thought. The Houses That October Built and then that other one, Hell House LLC or something.

Nothing with a "camera crew", but "The Possession of Michael King" is a kind of mockumentary. Michael King's wife died of an accident, supposedly because she listened to a soothsayer lady. So as a form of revenge Michael sets out with a camera visiting mediums and conjurers of demons, trying to prove to the world that it's all hokum. But in the end it's not.

I had this happen with a Leatherface, got a bootleg instead. Thinkgen of getting the remake one by McFarlane soon, they don't have any bootleg versions.

Not paranormal per se, but years ago I saw several projector-type lights shine on the apartment building next to mine, happened around 2 AM. There was no logical explanation for it unless one of my neighbors had bought a disco light machine of some kind and was fucking around with it.
To this day I think it was aliens, but before I could get out of bed and take a look, the lights were gone.

Hello, working class! It’s day two of my retirement. I saw Dolly last night, and it was decent. There was some good gore, but overall there just wasn’t enough violence . And honestly, it’s pretty unbelievable that a woman that size could pull all of that off. Movie gave off Incident in a Ghostland vibes.
>>
>>222122533
I've never seen Incident in a Ghostland, can you rate Dolly in terms of the Friday the 13th movies? I.e., part IV (great) or Part VIII (boring but it has its moments)

A black male and a white girl it looks like. Such a random picture.
>>
>>222122711
Dolly has its moments, and horror fans and gorehounds will definitely appreciate a few of the kills. That said, it drags in places and leans way too heavily on the usual horror cliches like knocking the killer down instead of finishing the job, then running away.

So, I watched "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (1956). I dimly remember the 1970s version with Donald Sutherland, but it turns out there's actually 4 movies. I watched the very first one from 1956. Not going to lie, it's pretty corny. And while they shot in colour at the time at Hammer Studios in England, this American movie is still in black and white. It's a pretty straightforward adaptation of a magazine serial story, and it manages to build up suspense towards the end. And apparently this film was selected for preservation in the US National Film Registry by The Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
Anyway, 5.5/10 from me.

I think there's more than 4
>>
>>222123678
When I went looking for a restored version, I found a folder with 4 movies online "Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1956 - 2007". There's probably movies that have been inspired by this, but maybe they mean the 4 have the same basic story with the plants and the seed pods.

Btw. I found out the German title is "Die Dämonischen" despite of them clearly saying in the movie there's nothing supernatural, it's seeds from space that do this. They even say that they kill faith that way, so the resulting clones don't even believe in demons anymore. Well, I guess they didn't care to much about movie titles back then, main thing was probably to get people to buy a theatre ticket.

The 1950s Americana look will always be god-tier comfy. It being in black n white adds to it in my opinion.
>>
>>222123660
Cool. I might put this on tonight.
>>
>>222123774
Should watch the found footage adaptation of it called There Are Monsters.
>>
>>222123792
>The 1950s Americana look will always be god-tier comfy
Yeah there's a very specific reason for that.
>>
>>222123792
>>222123805
It was a comfy watch, but as I said also very corny, so that's why it only got 5.5 out of 10 from me. Maybe that's just how people lived and behaved in the 1950s.

>>222123827
I hate found footage films, they're just an excuse to film cheaply and with a shaky camery. Maybe I'll check it out anyway.
>>
>>222123853
This genre and general isn’t for you. Please leave.
>>
>>222123835
We all know what you're talking about, but it's more than that. It's the simpler times feel before technology ruined everyone's brain. A time where the local diner was the spot to go. Girls didn't dress like whores and young guys didn't try to be black. Town businesses were family owned instead of just another corporate chain. That's not diving into anything money or job related.
>>
>>222123931
That's a big part of it too. It gets worse every generation.

The same principle applies to most western countries. Just go back 70 years, hell even 40 years, and compare then and now. Well actually don't do that unless you feel like being depressed.

Thing is, most people would still be poor and low status. People act like with a different decade or system, they would be rich.
>>
>>222124197
>go back 70 years
You'll get a completely wrong impression. There were still ruins from the bombing raids everywhere, what was rebuilt was rebuilt cheaply and quickly. So they shot romances that were set in the country or the Alps, or westerns in Yugoslavia, anything but ordinary European city life. A life people wanted to escape through going to the cinema at the time.
>>
>>222124306
nta, but at least I wouldn't have to see tattoos, facial piercings, dyed hair, broccoli heads, non-whites, trannies, etc. everywhere.

I would say they also don't have the historical knowledge and often think something is new and groundbreaking and a great film when it's similar to many that came before. Not that a writer/director can't retell a story as their version of it and it not be good, but it's hard to have a deeper conversation about it.
