>>222187082you know what, thinking back, it all goes back to Akira and Tetsuo (lmao). Both were on the shelves at the same mom n pop place I did the slasher classics at, and Tetsuo especially created a craving for anything else that high energy and visceral. They also had a sizeable real death mondo movie collection, so they got me over a final level gore hump where I was comfortable watching anything. Was ordering the Guinea Pig movies off of ebay in like 2001.

>>222168456>To confidently assert what the film is definitively about is a difficult endeavour — something which attracted its lead. “I see Her Private Hell as an avant-garde art piece,” Thatcher tells me at the Carlton Hotel on the sunny Croisette, the day before the film’s world premiere. >Flanked by Liu and Froseth, with whom she shares a bubbling, warm chemistry that sharply contrasts their icy friendship triangle onscreen, the burgeoning scream queen describes the film as markedly different to her previous horror roles in projects like Yellowjackets and Companion. “I think it’s so incredibly open for interpretation. It doesn’t spell things out for you. It forces you to engage and be immersed in the movie for the full experience, and that’s rare. We don’t get that singular kind of movie anymore. It’s so hyper-specific, but also such a beautiful blend of so many different genres.” Refn’s previous film, gory fashion industry thriller The Neon Demon, premiered at Cannes 10 years ago to a mixture of applause, boos, and walkouts (a characteristically divisive reaction). >Sitting beside his leading man in another room at the Carlton, the ever-cool, curt director explains in his naturally calm tone why he’s returned to the festival with another polarising arthouse horror film “I’ve always liked genre, and I’ve always liked horror, especially ‘cause I think it’s all about what you don’t see, like the subconscious,” he says with a smile. “As a filmmaker, horror is very much a visual language, especially in cinema. [Growing up] it always just spoke to me, and it was a way to make my mother very angry.” >More specifically, Refn wanted to make a horror “opera”, complete with lush orchestral music by Italian maestro Pino Donaggio that recalls his scores for Carrie and Blow Out. Comparing the film to Only God Forgives, with its thorny mother-son relationship, he sees Her Private Hell as an operatic exploration of “father-daughter dilemmas”.

>>222189430I haven't actually seen it yet but I usually enjoy Refn's stuff though he's definitely not for everyone. A lot of his films are more about mood and vibes and have barely any plot to speak of. The Neon Demon was really good psych horror I enjoyed it a lot but I wasn't a huge fan of Only God Forgives which was Refn at his most self indulgent I feel but that sort of thing can actually work really well for horror like Eraserhead and Suspiria and Texas Chainsaw and Halloween and Neon Demon etc
I miss the video store days. my local store was an absolute beast that had huge cult and horror sections that were divided up by director. they had fucking Jorg Buttgereit and Andy Milligan sections. I rented all the Russ Meyer stuff to jerk it to in high school. they had the uncut version of New Wave Hookers with Traci Lords and I rented and copied it to a dvd-r, kek. They had Black Devil Doll From Hell and a bootleg of El Topo. I miss the shelves and shelves of Something Weird stuff and the posters for The Worm Eaters, The Honeymoon Killers, and Meet the Feebles. what a paradise.

Putting on some M'Bava
Just finished. Tedious made for TV feeling thing. Jenny Agutter is an architect supervising construction of an office building, but people keep dying in accidents, including a crazy scene where a detective pulls his gun and just starts plugging people in the lobby. Turns out the ghost of Jenny's husband who me murdered is haunting the building. the last scene is the best in the movie, where his zombie corpse that's walled up grabs her and drags her inside the wall with it. Michael Moriarty has such a weird screen presence, he's always very quiet or very loud and looks like he doesn't believe anything anyone's saying. Kevin McCarthy from Invasion of the Body Snatchers is here too but underutilized. Unengaging.
>>222192341Cool poster though. I always wanted a killer high rise film.Haven't seen that elevator one though.
>>222192485you might wanna check Poltergeist 3. Demons 2 is set in a high rise but the building itself isn't what's attacking. Shivers, also.
>>222192341i really love it but definitely not for moriarty. it is weirdly spanish like nothing else ever, comes off as a bit made for tv. they really know how to use the skyscraper setting well even if the story is kind of a let down.
>>222186746I can't get over how nice the paint on the mask looks.

>>222191738This was pretty slow to get going but when the ghost showed up it actually spooked me at one point. I guess this was Psycho inspired, but you can see a direct line to Maniac from it.The idea he saw a little bit more every time he killed is an excellent plot driver. It makes you the audience want to see the murders to solve it too.
oh yea thats the ticket

>>222193603>Poltergeist 3RIP Heather O'Rourke.
>>222192485Cyber City Oedo and the X-Files have episodes about that.

92 days til HalloweenReminder Halloween falls on a Saturday this year
>>222194337I'm just glad I live in a non-Anglo country, so there are no kids ringing my doorbell demanding sweets. There are also no parties except for a few extremely profit-oriented (i.e. expensive) venues, which are few and far between. I'll probably end up comfily at home, watching some good horror movies, and since the next day's a sunday that means I get to stay up late.

>>222194743That's not bad, some pretty spoopy moments.
>>222194573Rules are if the porch light is off, you skip the house. My street rarely gets kids anymore because nobody wants to descend and then ascend a steep hill.
>>222194573I get a lot of trick or treaters every year usually, but I also decorate the most out of anyone in the neighborhood. My new neighbors who moved in a few years ago have started stepping it up with the decorations which is cool.
>>222194909>>222194963Halloween was never really established here. There was this one year when karneval (mardi gras) was cancelled due to the Americans starting another war in the Middle East, so wholesellers of costumes and decoration tried to make Halloween a thing over here to get rid of the inventory. (True story btw.) They managed to reach kids with the merch, but not the grown-ups, they established the lore with the kids, but again not with the grown-ups, so when the kids went from door to door demanding candy, the grown ups didn't know what the fuck was going on. The whole thing ended up in thousands of cases of property damage and police being called so much that it overwhelmed the emergency call systems. The years after that the problem with massive property damage persisted, even though lots of cities introduced curfews. I don't know for how long but finally the youth gave up on Halloween, it was not going to be a thing in my country. And that btw. goes for most of the non-English speaking world.
>>222195093>non-American western countries fuck up Halloween>Japan adapts Halloween and it's successful so far>South Korea copies Japan's Halloween and 150+ people dieHow are you retards fucking up something so simple?
>>222195223>South Korea copies Japan's Halloween and 150+ people dieAFAIK that was the very first public event that was allowed to take place after the corona pandemic, and it was held only in one small section of Seoul in a district with small, narrow alleys.Things like that also regularly happen on the muslim pilgrimage on 20 meter wide massive highways. Thousands dead because they failed to control the streams of millions of people that all follow their religion telling them YOU MUST VISIT MECCA AND YOU MUST DO IT ONLY AT A SPECIFIC TIME.My country introduced strict regulation after some 20 people got crushed to death due to police mismanaging a mass event. That means some festivals get cancelled, that means people get turned back if they don't have a pre-sold ticket. That also meant that I had to leave a lecture at my university twice because I was 5 minutes late and I didn't get a seat. You're no longer allowed to stand or sit on the stairs of the auditorium.
>>222195355It's just weird since South Korea copies a lot of things from Japan and usually improves on it. Maybe one year they'll surpass them on Halloween as well.
>>222195410They're weird. I've once seen a Japanes shop window Christmas decoration, and they had nailed Santa to a cross and placed buckets of KFC around the cross. Voilà, Japanese Christmas.
>>222195462Them having 2 Valentine's Days so both guys & girls get something is a great idea though. I wish America would adopt that.
Is this actually a good movie or do people here just enjoy it because they want to commit the crimes in the film
The horror genre has been quite pathetic. Why isn't anybody even trying anymore?
>>222195685It's okay. It's a protoslasher, so it's missing some of the stuff you'd expect, and the cop side of the story feels like it belongs in a bumbling buddy-cop story more than this, but it's not bad. There was a followed up in 2014 that serves as both a remake and a sequel at the same time. It's good, but closer in style to a slasher than a protoslasher, so if you don't like the 1976 one you'll probably enjoy the 2014 one.

You cannot work with this, you need to get institutionalized, so you need to find a way to get into a mental ward. >>222218077wdym? i just posted a picture of my favorite actor together with a really good song
>trying to hook off failed baitIt's just sad, really.
>>222218105is it really a failed bait if you keep swallowing?
>>222217579What if you took strong hallucinogenic drugs, maybe the smile monster would get messed up
>>222209225really one of a kind look, she's iconic
>>222218117you need drugs to remove the hallucinations, along with therapy and social interacting with humans. basically you need to be institutionalized. Rose should have put herself into psycward.
>>222218532that didn't work so well for the original chick
>>222209252this was an awful movie but most of the girls were hot as fuck
The smile / trauma entity is an eldritch horror that exists in a parallel plane of existence outside of our own. It took trillions of our years drifting to discover our universe. imagine millions of light years traveling at snail pace. The horror because more or less corrupted by the evil essence of humanity and turned into the horror we know. There is no way to kill the entity. The entity will only stop once all the collective trauma of humanity, built up over 300,000 years is spent by feeding on blood sacrifices. since humanity keeps growing and more trauma is created, it will de facto exist until we die out as a species. you can in theory defeat it in your mind, but that only cuts it off from our plane of existence. once cut off, it will go and find a new host planet of sentient life, as that’s what attracts it.
>>222218845this nigga op
>>222218767did she show signs she was gonna kill herself? straitjackets?
>>222218845we find out ancient humanity dealt with the entity, though blood sacrifices. because humanity started moving away from sacrifices due to the Abrahamic religions and modernization, the trauma moved more towards the mental plane. Humanity began studying psychotherapy as a way to combat, realizing that schizophrenic people have unlocked a truly enlighted plane. while the entity cannot control humanity, it can guide us in whatever direction it wants. since almost zero humans lived after seeing its true form, most we get are dark shadowy horrors the night, which we blame on magic or satan.
>>222186746Good morning FixbrethrenAre we partaking in espresso today?
Watched 3 horror movies and it was an underwhelming mixed bag:>The WoodmenFirst off, the name is terrible because I keep reading it as The Woodsmen, which sounds better on the ear. It's an innawoods FF movie where only the Ranger isn't a retard. It's a 4.5/10 movie that could have been better. The tent scene reminded me of the boring tent scene from Willow Creek. It's watchable, but wouldn't recommend it. Kills are shit, acting is mostly bad, and it ends on a tie-in to a sequel.>The Andy Baker TapeDidn't like it at first, but I warmed up to it. It's a 5-5.5/10 FF movie. It's actually great casting in that they do look like half-brothers. Basically a travel food critic type finds out he has a half-brother and meets up and of course shit gets weird. The horror is more in the tension until the 3rd act, but the acting is actually good for what's a 2 person FF movie. Recommend giving it a try.>Soulm8te5/10, but goes to a 4/10 at times. It's very predictable, especially the timeskip ending. It could have been A LOT better if it cut out most of the drama shit. The effects are okay mostly, but also shit at others. Entire movie is like that really, just a grab bag of quality. At least she gets her tits out twice. Is it better than M3GAN 1 or 2? No. Do I understand why it kept getting postponed and not given a theater release? Absolutely. 50/50 movie and those that don't like it will definitely be justified. If the 5/10 is a like or dislike, I'm not sure. There are 2 death scenes in the entire movie I think and probably the best scene in the movie is the 2nd one.
>>222219337Are you going to watch Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma this week?
It's rare that a movie appears interesting enough to keep me watching the whole thing but I still absolutely hate it at the end. This is one such movie.
>>222219349Probably 1-2 days after the torrent comes out.>>222219337Correction, there are 3 death scenes in Soulm8te, the last one is still the best. Glad I didn't wait for the 4K version, not worth it.
>>222198412I love this movie and wished they’d made a trilogy
Reminder that Black-Eyed Susan is the best modern sexbot film
>>222219583Didn't like it, found it very one-note, which it didn't do well.
>>222186746i wish everyone involved with Friday the 13th could just come to the table and put their differences aside and just agree to make a new movie. Just shake hands and each agree to 50/50 profits or better yet just put the IP under one company. The world deserves another Friday the 13th movie
>>222219762problem is I think Victor Miller actively wanted to sabotage the franchise, he resents it
>>222219762Or just wait for an 86 year-old man to die and then throw a bunch of money at the estate for the rights.
>>222219762>and just agree to make a new movieWell the dispute was settled, and we are getting a new movie, but that's not good news. The new "Jason Universe" has been nothing but cheap cashgrabs so far. Dead By Daylight crossover, terrible consoomer merchandise, and a 15 minute (bad) short film that was an apple cider commercial ft. the worst Jason design (and a girlboss). Now we're getting the Crystal Lake tv series. It ain't getting any better.
just saw soulm8te's titsif you're paying hundreds of thousands of dollars or whatever wouldn't you go for something a little perkier
Sexbots not just being Monique Gabrielle in Evil Toons is a plot hole
>>222209959I wish they would wait a bit longer. In early October some stores put up Christmas decor, like slow down there. It is insanity.

>>222209959Halloween decorations are for sale at some stores near me. They even have those expensive ones that talk, move around, etc. for your yard.>>222221154One decoration is a Halloween Pilgrim Turkey, so you can leave it up for both holidays.
>>222220886But this is Bachelor Party, not Evil Toons

what are some modern zombie movies worth watching made past Train to Busan? Sequel was so shit
>>222222472So zombie movies 2017 onward. Here's what my autism sheet spit out, in no particular order:>This Is Not A Test>Zombieland: Double Tap>Ziam>Godforsaken>New Life>We Are Zombies>Zom 100: Bucket List Of The Dead>#Alive>Murder At Shijinso>Zombiepura>School Live!>The DarkNote that Murder At Shijinso isn't horror
So I watched "Deadly Blessing" (Wes Craven 1981). Solid acting, directing, camera work, editing. But the pacing was so slow that it would have been overtaken by the horse-and-buggy they used in this movie. In fact, the whole story could have been cut to 30 minutes runtime without losing any plot points. This movie was tagged as "horror" and "folk horror", but it's not. Except for the final 1 1/2 minutes of it. Out in the country where there's nothing but farmland as far as the eye can see, a cult of evil super Amish terrorize the few normal people that live there. Meanwhile people are being murdered, and at first it's not clear by whom. In the end it turns out the neighbour's strange daughter is a hermaphrodite and it was all xer doing. In the eyes of the cult, she's the messenger of THE INCUBUS! INCUBUS!Anyway, some cuties, this was Sharon Stone's first role in which she had actual lines to speak, and Ernest Borgnine almost got a Golden Raspberry Award for playing the cult leader.5/10, comfy watch, some deduction for the slooooow pacing.
Widow's Bay is so fucking boring. Neither dialogue nor the mystery are captivating I was memed into watching it but 7 episodes in I just couldn't

>>222226726>Bullets of JusticeI might give this one a try. Decampitated had its moments and managed to be fun at times. It's from 1998 and looks shot on video, so I liked the aesthetic. But overall a bad movie that frequently tries too hard to be silly.
>>222227471It tries so hard to be weird it's basically a detriment but I was still entertained and it was free, so I really don't have to give a shit.

They were shooting some of the Reanimator remake near where I was today and showed me some pics from the instagram page. I'm pretty skeptical though, don't really think it's my type of flick. They said it's more like the book and not a remake. I wonder why call it reanimator then though.
>>222226205Pure trvthnvke actually.
>>222227756I thought that was a garbage truck and laughed because it made sense
>>222227756CW stars are so cursedI rather like the guy too, but he was king of his own ridiculous little universe for over a decade and now he's a nobody doing a movie that will flop and the five people who watch it will hate
>>222219762>>222219787>>222219892If there’s any solace to take it’s that Miller and Cunningham are both old as shit at this point, so we probably don’t have to wait around long, then some studio will snatch the rights up and start making them again. I was surprised to see adult hockey mask Jason in the Crystal Lake show.
