The setting of Star Trek is literally established to be a "Post-Scarcity Society". Traditional and familiar economic systems and even economic concepts, such as "Socialism", no longer apply within a Post-Scarcity Society.

The Ferengi seek "wealth" (latinum, trinkets, artifacts etc.) for the same reason Feddies seek exploration: it gives them satisfaction. They don't actually need those minerals or money. It's only for bragging rights and social status.
