A Dark Song will always be a pretentious pile of fucking vomit for database faggots to feel good about their knowledge of muh occult practices. That's it. The end of the movie is the best part for the big guy and the fact that it's finally fucking over. Not scary. Waste of time. Fake ass faggot recommendations
>>222588339calling something pretentious is lazy dismissal
>>222588163>devil's mouth>isn't about a succubus who sucks out men's souls>just some gay sharks are bad propaganda in the big 2026Lame.
>>222588163It's been done a hundred times before. It's basically Ten Little Indians in a Thai cave. In the first 5 minutes you'll figure out on your own who will die first and who will be the final girl. The jumping shark is idiotic, as is how it gets itself killed.I reviewed it here and gave it a 5/10. Technically well made, but conceptually nothing new. It is entertaining on a lazy sunday afternoon if you've got nothing else to do.
>>222588510the ironing. I explain why it's pretentious, the antithesis of a "lazy dismissal" which you yourself are guilty of. Sorry you have shit taste.
>>222588339I've never had more than a passing interest in the occult and esoteric religious stuff, I liked the movie because the characters are interesting. Initially you think okay it's these two characters in one location for the whole movie, that sounds boring. But their exact motivations are purposefully obscured, and you question whether their intentions are as they say they are or if there's something sinister to the whole affair, outside of the occult practices. The movie plays on this audience perception in a satisfying way I feel; the acting/dialogue writing is pretty solid, really sells the uncertainty and desperation of their respective situations. Then the climax of the movie is kino as you said. So while I feel it's one of those 'not for everyone' movies because it moves slowly and is heavily reliant on simple scenes of character interaction for most of the movie, I do think it stands out and is worth a look. I put it off for a while thinking it would require a lot of patience to enjoy but I found that to not be the case at all.
>>222588339I saw it years ago and wasn't impressed. I feel your pain for being scammed.
>>222588339>The end of the movie is the best part for the big guyVery true. One of the coolest depictions of an angel in film. It's a shame it's so short.

Been trying to get into horror movies, since I love horror books. Here's what I've watched recently, and my ratings with a few thoughts:>Hokum: 4/10, just didn't enjoy it. Boring mostly.>Scream: 6/10, hated the twist. The fact that it wasn't a fair-play mystery ruined it. Would've been much better if that didn't ruin the end of the movie significantly.>Halloween: 5/10, generic and fine but undercut by tonality issues like the asylum versus town.>The Cabin in the Woods: 7/10, enjoyed quite a bit but the zombies were lame. Plenty of better options for their chosen killer. The controller aspect was really good though, and I really liked the contrast.>Hellraiser: 3/10, just very boring with gaping plot holes. Apparently the novella is significantly better.>The Backrooms: 8/10, very good movie overall, but the therapy/trauma plots were bad, and the ending way too much. Should've kept it simple and avoided generic human emotional drama.Any recommendations? I've seen a few other famous ones long ago, what I recall are: Nightmare on Elm Street (can barely remember), Alien (thought was good but more action than horror), The Shining (as a book fag I hated this one), and The Silence of the Lambs (liked, but Hopkins carried the everliving Hell out of it). When it comes to books I like a whole lot of horror. Off Season, the sequel, Dracula (my favorite), The Long Walk, The Taking, The Shining, and a whole lot of short stories are my top ones.

>>222591057I don't agree with your points, but who does? Watch the original movies you talked about, NOT the reboots with the same title. Some older movies are still classics after 50 year or more, like the original "Alien" 1979. Some older films are pretty tame by today's standards. Not all horror movies need a bigger budget to be good/interesting. For example I liked "Lee Cronin's Mummy", even though you know they didn't have much of a budget.
>>222591269None of the ones I watched were reboots. I don't even know which ones have reboots.
>>222591322I think "Scream" and "Halloween" came out not with their sequel number like "Scream 7", but with just the title "Scream".Anyway, there's lots of horror subgenres. There's the slasher/splatter films that are just interested in a body count and ample use of artificial blood. There's gore and sexploitation horror. There's cheap cash grab horror like Backrooms. I like the ones that have a plot and that build up an eerie or scary atmosphere, like "Crimson Peak" or "The Awakening".
>>222591447>ample use of artificial bloodi really love when someone's on blood hose duty just pumping that shit full blast
>>222591447Bro I don't know what the fuck you're talking about with sequels take your meds. The Scream I watched was from the 90s and the Halloween from the late 70s or early 80s.

At that time they could no longer go on being named "Noah, son of Benjamin, son of Shmuel, son of ..." In contrast to other Europeans they didn't get names assigned to them by neighbours and friends (like "Black" - the guy with the black hair or "Smith" - the village blacksmith). They got to pick their own family names and made up "nice sounding" names: Rosenthal ("valley of roses"), Goldberg ("mountain of gold"), Rubinstein ("ruby gem") etc.

People live in democracies and eat poo willingly, what does that say about them? Fascism doesn't inherently make people want to make others eat poo.Idk I watched it like 20 years ago.

He never finished it and the film left out plenty. So posters saying it was included because of the director's fetishes are probably correct.120 Days of Sodom, both the book and film, are only notable because of the lore around it and the fact they were trying to be disgusting and perverted. They are uninspired and uncreative. There's not much there.

>>222584302Lucy Lawless had kind of a funny line during an interview, it must have been around the point of Ash vs Evil Dead. >>222584162The She-Bitch was played by my beloved Patricia Tallman, aka Barbara in Night of the Living Dead '90.
>>222599000I think it's less a problem with werewolves and more a problem that the films have never quite hit the mark. There's always something fucky with them, and I could probably say that with some weighting the original Wolf Man is actually the best.

>>222603689I remember disliking it when I saw it probably 15 years ago. And I was pretty primed on weird black and white shit. I loved his segment in that Vincent Price narrated anthology though.

>>222603771>it's actually Not For BeginnersAgreed. I never understood why it's constantly recommended as a "beginner" arthouse film when it would be much more effective watching it later on after getting enough context on Fellini + seeing enough films it heavily inspired to the point of homage.

>The Spiral Staircase (1946)absolute kinoBy far the best movie I watched this year.
>>222604168good for you! love this movie and it's still pretty under the radar. earliest slasher type movie I can think of.
>>222604168I love that scene where she runs in from the rain. Big old sets will never be beaten. Always makes me think of The Haunting though, which has an even more memorable spiral staircase.

>>222591057>Alien (thought was good but more action than horror)You're thinking of Aliens, the sequel. There's zero action scenes in the original Alien unless you want to count Ash manhandling Ripley as action. I still don't agree with that assessment of Aliens desu. Most of the action scenes involve a small group of people dying horribly to a horde of terrifying monsters. It's all suspenseful but in the scary way. I would describe the turret scene in the extended cut as exactly that.
>>222603013RIP cuties
Interesting flick for those who like martial arts/Shaw Brothers movies that have some horror leaning. This one's about rival femdom kung fu witches who use a poisoned claw weapon to create zombie slaves to do their bidding and carry them around in coffins
>>222605937how do I eyebrowmaxx like that chink dude? do I need to sleep in a coffin?

>>222606908the same director did a few satirical horrors. He's also behind Disconnected and Cemetery High.
Hayden Pennettierie looked late 40s in Scream. I thought her character was supposed to be some divorced 60 year detective. And I say late 40s only because I know she isn’t over 50 irl. I thought she could be anywhere in the 40s. She looked terrible.
So they either never mention Kirby again or write her off as being killed on duty in the next Scream movie?
>>222607038She said in the past that her now ex-husband ruined her body.
>>222607361Doubt. She was just a druggy actress and her ex husband was the equivalent of a blue collar worker.
>>222607361>>222607402Yeah, no offense to her. I like her in Scream but let’s not pretend she was intelligent or anything above mid. Dumb and walled and married to another low iq type.
>>222607338
Just finished. A single dad inadvertently agrees to become the grim reaper. This is mostly a sad drama and could've just as easily been about a guy with a drug problem or something. It's him trying to avoid cops and child protective services and earn money, etc. Not bad but I can't imagine most /hor/ posters liking it. From the title and poster (Ba is Chinese I think for Dad) I thought it was going to be a foreign movie but it's from L.A. Brian Thompson has a good small role and dude is looking old.
>>222607580
>>222607580I don’t want things that advertise a daughter as a main character. Always bogged down by mary sue-ism or drama. A son is better but I would rather not. The only way to show a “tough daughter” on screen is to make her act like a boy and it is just so dumb. I saw the Furious, a Hong Kong movie, and the daughter was just annoying. Acting all boyish and rebellious like a boy. Reminds of that horror movie about spiders where the main little girl character was just playing a boy.
>>222607630what the fuck is wrong with youget professional help. I'm worried you're going to be waiting in line at Wendy's and end up murdering a child because her haircut offends you of something.
>>222607641I always pictured him as the "murders his parents" type
>>222607641 Where did you get that from? I agree with him. The only way they seem to know how to write a tough young female character is to literally write a boy character and just cast a girl in the role.
>>222607666>Satanoh.
>>222607630>The only way to show a “tough daughter” on screen is to make her act like a boy and it is just so dumb.Name 10 movies.

>>222607630>I saw the Furious, a Hong Kong movie,That's one movie. And I'm asking in good faith, I actually want some examples of girl characters who are just written to be like boys. Because I scrolled through an imdb list of 'horror movies featuring young girls' and I couldn't think of any there where this applies.
>>222607658I dunno, he seems to specifically have an irrational hatred for women. I see plenty of guys here with a RATIONAL hatred of them, but he gets triggered by nothing. Like who the fuck suggested the daughter in this movie was supposed to be "tough"? The movie isn't even about her.

>>222607739No you retard, I can think of vague examples of this happening but I can't remember the movies where it actually happens. I'm asking you to list some of the movies where it happens.
>>222607721He also mentioned the horror movie about spiders. I think I know which one is he is talking about. It was the one that came out when another French spider horror movie came out.

>>222607762think it was this one, which is pretty good
>>222607762I think I know which one you mean although I didn't watch it. I did watch Infested though, the French spider movie, and it was better than I expected it to be. Solid creature feature and the characters and apartment complex in general have some personality to them. >>222607775The fuck are you squawking about, cunt? Star Wars? How is that an example
>>222607782
>>222607760Nta but you lost this one. >>222607762The one in the apartment? That one was garbage. >>222607775Yeah, her whole character was just a boy and cringe.
>>222607814>lostYou're insane. I'm not doing the 'pretend to not know what someone is saying' thing, I'm asking for examples. Imagine getting this defensive and acting like it's so self-evident that you don't need to back up your claim.
>>222607782This one for sure. Her character and her adventurousness and personality was a boy character. Hollywood no longer has manly characters played by men just like how they won’t make boyish characters played by boys. This is why all major hollywood funding IS STILL GOING TO CAPESHIT. I thought marvel was finished but a new phase is coming out. You dont need strong screen presence or good acting or masculine actors when it is capeshit.
