> Henry (John Nance) resides alone in a bleak apartment surrounded by industrial gloom while posting on /hor/ 24/7. When he discovers that an earlier fling with Mary X,Charlotte Stewart), a mtf, left her pregnant, he marries the expectant mother and has her move in with him. Things take a decidedly strange turn when the couple's baby turns out to be a bizarre lizard-like creature that won't stop wailing. Other characters, including a disfigured lady who lives inside a radiator, inhabit the building and add to Henry's troubles

>Bruce Campbell has put Evil Dead's Ash Williams to bed, ruling out a future with the character.>In a new interview with Screen Rant, Bruce Campbell confirmed that "Ash is done" and that he won't be reprising the role again, even for voiceovers in animated projects. He noted that creatives will have to get a soundalike or find some other workaround. It's a disappointing thing to hear, but probably shouldn't come as much of a surprise, given that Ash hasn't been at the center of the franchise in a while.

>>222640571Qualley is even more overexposed than Goth at this point, I'd be fine with never seeing her again. What we need, is Nell.
>>222639216Something neat that I like about Phantasm is that there's this unexplained relief sculpture above the Transporter Room. I wondered about it as a kid, but it turns out that it was a popular image of the characters in the Iliad (Achilles, Nestor, etc) which was repeated throughout the 20th century. In the film it's just an ornament that goes with the classical western set design, the alien's idea of how these bozos want their local mausoleums to look (like).
all right im gonna do it. im gonna watch exorcist 3 since you guys were talkin bout it yesterday. and im doing it legit: on tubi with adblocker turned off. theres something occasionally satisfying with watching a movie with commercial breaks. especially dialog-heavy movies
>>222639360>wasn't everyone expecting sadie sinkNo, it seemed like everyone expected her to be Jean Grey. She wouldn't really fit Rogue either. I think Inde would have worked as Kitty Pryde.
Also, I'm pretty sure Daft Punk lifted the Transporter Room aesthetic for their movie "Electroma", where the robots put on human makeup. Another view of the relief sculpture.

>>222640763I wonder if it was there originally, or added as part of the film. It's quite striking.
>>222640226Man, film is kino. This has a great aesthetic. Makes me realize how soulless digital is. And the composition here is even really good for what it is.
>>222640824has one of the goat slasher costumes too. funny it doesn't have a remake.
>>222640824>>222640842With Tom Savini doing the kino effects
>>222640880Fuck that guy. He's nothing compared to Bottin or Baker and everyone who worked with or even met him say he's an asshole.
Also, the clearest visual cue that the funeral home is "off", evil, alien AI imitation, etc, is that its facade is ARCHITECTURALLY INCORRECT.In classical Western architecture, facades of great buildings must have an EVEN number of columns. The reason is so that it is possible to walk STRAIGHT UP DEAD CENTER up to the front door. If you have an ODD number of columns, then anyone trying to march straight up to the front door must duck around that central column, which blocks the path. All you have to do to understand how aesthetically horrible that idea is, is to just think about it for a moment. In great public houses, it is possible (if only in principle, but still) for the visitor, tourist etc to again walk STRAIGHT DEAD CENTER up the steps, between the two central columns, right into the center front door, which is of course a psychologically and sexually satisfying experience.Because the alien is interested in harvesting the dead rubes, he doesn't worry much about correct aesthetics. And most human rubes are too stupid to see what's off about the place.

>>222641990It has a great atmosphere to it and I thought pic related actress was good. Not necessarily great at acting, but good making the character sensual and she has a nice asmr voice or something. You should put it on your halloween list.
>>222642205It's a bit abstract though. I put it in the same category as stuff like Messiah of Evil and The Driller Killer (1979)

>>222642376Nta, but it was good. Very underrated.
>>222642449I haven't seen 5. 1, 2 and 3 are all great but different enough that I can't really compare them. 1 is kind of horror comedy with a serious tone. 2 is I don't know. I really like 3.
>>222642449>>222642524I really rate 4. Yeah it's low budget but it has this small town mystery detective feeling to it that is quite dreamy. And then it packs all of it's budget into the last section for SFX.
>>2226425245 had some comedic elements, mostly from Clive Turner (one of the writers and stars). It's a murder mystery in the same vein as The Beast Must Die, where you are trying to figure out which one of them is the werewolf. It's set in a castle in Hungary. Very comfy.

>>222644523It's worth watching as a series. The individual films are all over the place but imo the total experience is more powerful because you grow fond of the characters.
>>222644548also it's one of the only horror franchises where they were almost all directed by the same person (fucking Ravager combo breaking)

>>222639216Rip , he's a shiny silver ball now : (
Decent film, with some effective spooks. It's the kind of movie that doesn't so much show the horror as imply it through suggestion, mostly over a phone call. So you have to be in the right mood for it. >>222640124I watched the first movie last year and thought 'what the fuck is this character' but I wasn't complaining at all. The film had that 70s American feel to it, where they just said fuck it and put in whatever they wanted, less studio oversight. Badass, balding ice cream man who also plays guitar? Sure. When they took a few minutes to just play some tunes at some point in the first act, I knew I was witnessing some kino. And the fact that ice cream man is a mentor figure who shows up when you need him... We could all use that in these trying times.
>>222644548>>222644569As incoherent as they are at times, there’s really nothing else like them. Truly a very distinct horror series.

>>222645109It wasn’t boring. Watch Drive Back next.
>>222645147
>>222643208Just finished. Not as good as the original by a long shot, but much better than most of the sequels. I would rate it something like>Hellraiser>Hellraiser 2>Hellraiser 5>Hellraiser 4>Hellraiser (2022)>Hellraiser 3and then the rest of the series is pretty avoidable and barely related.I think the 2022 movie had a good concept of what it wanted to do, but it didn't pull it off quite as well as it had planned. It's very hard to make this kind of movie with CGI and digital cinematography, when raw, analog visuals are really required to get the aesthetic right. Still, I think the thought that went into it was good. Pamela Adlon's daughter also did a good job with it. I hope she gets more roles.

>>222645931>God bless 90s straight-to-video horror directorslol, this one made it to theaters, my man
>>222645870even funnier is that there's more forethought put into cd head and video camera cenobites than anywhere else in the series.
>>222645958>came out on 9/11 Predicated the later tragedy
>>222645846I like 3 for its dumber qualities, but I think it really betrays the series' lore and makes Pinhead seem like such a dumb villain. At the same time, it's a certain kind of dumb that I enjoy on some level. If it existed on its own, I would find it very stupidly charming, but the fact that it's supposed to be a continuation of 1 and 2 makes me want to ignore it in most conversations about the series.
>>222646102i think 3 makes pinhead a dumb villain for good consistent logical reasons in 3. the pillar sacrifice stuff is all really great and sets him up as this unchained dark half constantly hungry for more suffering and then it just goes profoundly retarded and wastes it all. half of 3 is just a really good hellraiser movie.
>>222646156>the pillar sacrifice stuff is all really great and sets him up as this unchained dark half constantly hungry for more sufferingYeah, but his hunger and character is portrayed too stupidly to bear. It's just dumb>and then it just goes profoundly retarded and wastes it allThat's it's whole portrayal though. It's all just too dumb.
>>222645778Just finished. Oof, another Curtis Everitt, but this one was a catastrophe and not in a fun way. The premise:>Kevin takes his wife Joy to the beach for a vacation. What he doesn’t realize is that there are clowns coming out of the ocean.Genius. Best idea I've ever heard.Problem is the entire first half hour is Kevin and his wife arguing with each other before the clowns show up, the clowns kill a couple people, then Kevin and Joy KILL ALL THE CLOWNS WITH A KNIFE AND A BELT, then run to find help at some random house and it turns out it's holding two cops who have one of the FBI's 10 most wanted tied to a chair in one of the bedrooms, and Kevin and Joy argue with THEM for most of the second half hour. Then the clowns show up again and kill everybody except for Kevin, Joy, and the gangster, who turns out to be their leader(?!?). The Everitt absurdity is here in spades, but I just wanted everybody to shut the fuck up. Disappointing.
>>222646201watch out for clowns

I missed the Hellraiser discussion? damnHellraiser 3 and Judgment are kino I don't care I just love everything about the franchise. The first part of Judgment with the Auditor and the house is so sick and inspired. The Surgeon was my favorite part. I clipped that scene for my channel and need to do more from Judgmenthttps://www.youtube.com/shorts/QoY9ZbI54xoHellraiser 2022 was good and the best thing we've got in years, the ending with Roland Voight being turned into a cenobite is the best cenobite transformation in the series. Only Channard's transformation from Hellbound comes close. Also the aspect ratio for this one is cool but makes it hard as fuck to clip scenes from for shorts and that sucks

The backstory there is as strange and funny as the backstory behind the filming of The Island of Dr Moroue.-for werewolf costumes the studio sent them ape costumes from the short lived planet of the apes TV show.-this forced christopher lee to film a scene to explain you went through many phases (and ape.phase) before you became a wolf.-they filmed in a communist eastern European country and their version of the KGB didn't want them to film crowd scenes because they had laws to prevent too many people gathering together to prevent potential revolt. They should have made a movie about making the movie.
>>222643271New Moon rising is either the best or the worst depending on your point of view. If they had added 1 or 2 more songs it could have been a werewolf musical.
>>222652123charming af
>>222652411theres a serious lack of horror musicals, its a proven concept

THIS PLACE IS CURSED
>>222654000A couple twitter nutjobs have been trying to cancel Inde for a month or two already jej
>>222639412In theory, but also they'd probably ruin it. Those original movies have so many idiosyncrasies. The largely amateur cast of actors, the weird balance between horror, comedy, and science fiction. The small town vibes. The dream logic.
Possibly the most body-horror-heavy movie of our time

>>222645109It Ends was supposed to be a “gen z” horror movie but I didn’t see it as such. Gen Z horror movies are ugly looking with obviously ugly actors and actresses and characters are major losers like Obsession
>>222656132I saw a time loop movie within the past 3 weeks but I must have forgot to add it to my notes. It was a pretty good movie but now I don’t know the title.

>>222652390>the studio sent them ape costumesI never noticed they were ape costumes. I'll have to see if I can find one with commentary. I just realized last night the VHS is kind of valuable. I was on some whatnot stream with a guy selling horror tapes. He kept showing off rarer cool stuff like Howling 2 but then running cheap common stuff above ebay prices so I gave up.

>>222645810The Auditor is like a top 5 character in the entire franchise, I wish more Hellraiser fans knew just how kino the actor ans director are (he did both) because despite how flawed it is, the scenes during judgements are just really fucking good and hes such a likeable guy, wish he'll come back somehow, part of me had the pipedream he'd show up in the Revival game as like a shopkeep or some sort of "helpful" NPC but itll probably never happen and theyll never bring him up again, a damn shame.

>>222659596I found Caveat enjoyable because it had good pacing and a proper "explore the spooky house " feel. Oddity felt like it was trying to recapture what the former movie did, but on a grander scale (and budget), only for it to lose sight of what made the first one engaging.

One of the advantages of growing up with garbage public domain VHS's and terrible broadcast TV reception is, as long as I can physically see the movie, I'm happy.
Just finished. Actually a few hours ago, but I had to sleep. Another Curtis Everitt, I'm addicted to this guy's movies. They make me feel like I'm having metal springs screwed in behind my eyes. This one is an attempt at modernizing Dracula, complete with naming the characters Johnathan, Lucy, and Mina Harker, except they gender swap Drac into a not that hot Southern lady. The most notable thing about it is they use greenscreen at fucking every opportunity, including shots set in cars, convenience stores, around the back of normal houses, etc. Makes the whole thing surreal and slightly physically painful to look at. Also it's boring.
>>222664671half the movie for some reason is about this guy's two daughters trying to get married off and this giant dowry whoever gets them gets. the fat one on the left is the one everyone's chasing and the right one is a dyke, who it's later revealed is just pretending to be gay to scare off potential suitors.
>>222664696Dad's car trip to Transylvania.
>>222664748the Queen herself

>>222664170>a chemical breakdown process in cellulose acetate film that releases acetic acid. It produces a sharp vinegar odor, followed by film shrinkage, buckling, and brittleness. The released acid speeds up further decay and cannot be reversed once started.>Cellulose acetate film is a transparent, plant-based plastic derived from wood pulp or cotton fibers. Historically called "safety film", it replaced highly flammable cellulose nitrate in photography and motion pictures. Oh yeah. Film use to catch on fire. Being a projectionist was dangerous.
