>>222699854>neorealismo italianoAlso made by burgeouis marxist elite though.
>>222699862Are you new to women?
neorealismo americano
>>222699878I don't give a shit... it could have been Bill Gates as a director, I only care about the content of the film, and neorealismo was actually about real problems that real people went through. I think the bourgeois discourse a-la Sofia Coppola of "omg, life is so boring, it's so bad, I'm gonna kill myself because life sucks awwww" is quite literally spitting on real people's problems. I think someone like Chantal Akerman would have benefitted a lot from doing shit like factory work, farm work or facing poverty, etc., these bastards have literally no awareness of how good they have it and how minuscule and ridiculous their "problems" are compared to what regular people go through.
>>222699934I understand, but you seem to think the only problems a person can have are economical, when there are also mental and emotional issues that affect people and are independent from money, and shouldn't those also be addressed/represented in film? There are different types of suffering, and suffering is not a competition.
>>222700052>suffering is not a competitionLeftists didn't get the memo on this.
>>222699780filmão>almost no one in /film/ can "~"
>>222700052Yes, you are right about that, but what I'm talking about is the sense of entitlement and martyrdom that people like Akerman or Coppola expose while being completely unaware of how life is for the people that are truly unprivileged. You can even be "aware" of people's problems in the sense of knowing about them, but unless you've lived through them, your complaints will be based on sheer ignorance and you will come as an egotistical and ridiculous person to those that suffer. When you've went through *actual* problems, you stop caring about stupid he said she said bullshit and start focusing on the good things which you already have.TLDR: bourgeois retards think they need more to be happy, while they're actually blind to all the blessings they already have because they get obsessed with muh problem which is: 1-muh mom died, 2-muh bf left me, etc.

I don't care about real sadness. I just want the movies to be good not Jeanne Dielman's case
>>222699892but women back then were supposed to be trad
>>222700475It's hard to make a good movie when you don't even know what the fuck the film you're making is about, kinda like making a realistic WW2 movie without even knowing who Hitler was. I think that's why Chantal sucks so hard.

>>222700955>meritocracy and all.Doesn't exist, never has and never will
>>222700980Exists to a degree, for example, the best soccer players usually get to the best clubs because skill is something that's pretty much objective and demanded in that profession, but the same cannot be said for cinema or politics, in which sometimes the mediocre can get pretty far through sheer strength of bullshit... blame it on subjectivity.

The average drooling, knuckle dragging 1982 American movie goer was simply not capable of appreciating such Emersonian thighs and B-cups. Francis was taking a stand for the medium itself.
>>222701736I think media executives are basically just lazy retards who don't believe in anything and definitely don't sit down and watch movies to personally approve of them or not and even if they did it wouldn't matter. At best they might have some vague understanding of certain actors or directors being popular but I seriously doubt anyone in charge at Columbia at the time it was owned by Coca-Cola was media literate.

>>222704201>I don't want to ask what happenedHe got "industry-famous". Hanging Rock was a bit of a breakthrough and he got requested for larger budget stuff.>Any other filmmakers with underrated arthouse beginnings? Many. Good directors, before they become famous, usually tend to make experimental, artsy and very indivisual stuff, without much of a budget. Ideally, they keep making what they want to make even after getting famous and get larger budgets, but that doesn't always hit the same.Look at George Lucas: American Graffiti isn't exactly arthouse, but it's an interesting approach to the coming-of-age story, applied to a whole group of teens that represent an entire generation. Then he made the first Star Wars, still experimental in a way, mind you, but from then on, the more money he got to invest, the more he filled his films with needless fluff and Hollywood tropes. He still made what he wanted to make, but that was far removed from his beginnings.Speaking of Star Wars changing career trajectories: Rian Johnson. A bit of a new Hollywood enfant terribile early on. Brothers Bloom in particular is an outstanding film. But during the best part of the last decade he's been stuck in a (very lucrative) Netflix deal making Knives Out sequels. Which aren't bad films at all, and certainly something he enjoys making, but ... I wish he'd return to something more grounded and very different once again. The much rarer case is a director who made an excursion to Hollywood but kinda came back to arthouse and experimental features afterwards. David Lynch comes to mind. Eraserhead is magnificent, but you can hardly get more bohemian that Inland Empire. Lynch went to Hollywood studio filmmaking, but then full circle. And his big budget Hollywood stuff is his weakest: Elephant Man, which he influenced a lot but did not write, just doesn't really feel as poignant as his other work, and Dune's production process possibly soured him on Big Hollywood for good.

>>222701903>Literally the most fucking AGP movie in existence.>The entire thing is the director, saying he wants to be a woman lesbian, while being chased down and raped, which he will have the biggest orgasm ever because he's a dirty female slut and women obviously get off the hardest when they're sexualised and raped.>The whole point of being watched, is that he wants to see himself, as a woman, being raped, from the perspective the rapist, because he gets off on being seen as a woman.>Absolutely insane shit. I love how people are reviewing this film based on it's thin deep "feminist/lesbian" themes, when in reality, it's just a thin cover for him bragging about his AGP fetishism

Hey /film/, Dan -- I mean Jane Schoenbrun here. Make sure you check out my new film SEXY TEENAGE GIRLS. It's a meta-story about a director using his, I mean her, protected identity to prey on vulnerable young actresses.

I actually told my girlfriend I went into the red light district once and she got mad and left me like a week later. I thought that was weird since I didn't even have sex with anyone but her. I think she didn't trust me! Women are crazy, man.

>>222705701The movie was directed by Jane Schoenbrun, not Dan. And Amanda Fix only had nice things to say>“Jane is just a dream director to work with,” she says. “Working with a writer-director is so special too, because you know that passion is there and they have all the answers to your questions, and I think that’s just such a great collaboration, so more of that is what I look forward to.">Fix’s future is looking especially bright given her sensitive, all-in performance in Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. One key moment is a sex scene in the film-within-a-film that is dreamily layered in subtext. Without spoiling what happens, Schoenbrun’s general advice was to “let it happen, let it happen.”>“It was so nice to have all of that information, because when I got on set, I felt that it was in me, and I could let it go, and just be present in my body, so that all of those things that are happening internally can come out, and it’s not forced in any way,” Fix says.
