Her looks are part of the movie. If she was portrayed more unflatteringly, either on purpose or not, the reveal at the end wouldn't have been as shocking. The final shot of her (or rather the actor with the fake head) juxtaposes with her being this cute tiny if not androgynous girl. It fits nicely along side other supernatural slashers in that way, even though obviously they wouldn't have had a prepubescent girl naked for the final shot, but also for budgetary and conceptual constraints. >>222700498In the movie, yes, but IRL where it counts she's a beautiful woman, sorry, leddit.

>>222699651Pennywise is such a bitch. Defeated not once, but twice by the old “I’m not afraid of you anymore” routine.Part 1 was such a solid little standalone movie, it’s a shame that it was sullied by Part 2 being such an overlong boring mess. That fucker had no business being three hours long, and you can tell that they shoved the kid flashbacks in just because they knew the adults wouldn’t be able to carry it on their own.

The Guardian (1990) is simultaneously kind of terrible and also cool and genuinely creepy in parts. Wild that Freidkin is capable of making something so unrepentantly schlocky. But most importantly, Carey Lowell is stunningly beautiful as always.
>>222700569Correction she was 14, so not prepubescent, but still that would have been way too shocking even to imply it, so naturally I think that the awkward and obviously male actor standing in her for her during the final reveal shot made it more effective and surreal.

For a while I was wondering how come Ringu and Dark Water are wo good, while most other Hideo Nakata movies are shitty, and don't even adhere to a similar style with him descending into slop with no personality but recently I found out that at this period Nakata was greatly influenced by Kiyoshi Kurosawa and everything fell into place. Ringu was in fact co-written by a Kiyoshi Kurosawa collaborator and originally Ringu was supposed to be directed by him too. Nkw I see how similar the style of Ringu and Dark Water is to KK in general, but Cure and Pulse in particular.

>>222707895Ghostwatch aired when was 14 years old. I thought it was real lol. If you grew up in the UK back then the people you see in the show (Michael Parkinson, Sarah Green) were familiar faces as interview hosts and childrens TV presenters respectively so it felt really authentic. Especially considering how the show wasn't introduced as a work of fiction rather as an authentic "outdoor broadcast/report" of a ghost hunt. I also remember feeling this weird confusion after it ended which in retrospect was probably my developing brain signaling "it's not real but haven't figured out why yet". But yeah it was a hell of an experience. Probably similar to how when War of the Worlds was first broadcast people thought it was real.>>222707988I looked up the ghost scene on youtube and got scared by 0:51. Ghost-adjacent is an underrated 1972 film called The Asphyx about a group of paranormal researchers who attempt to capture people's spirits at the moment of their death. For comic book readers, James Tynion did a miniseries called Spectregraph which has a very similar concept.

The family home had suffered [I removed this part for spoilers]; Denham linked this to the activity in the show, causing him great worry. He left a suicide note reading "if there are ghosts I will be ... with you always as a ghost".After a high Court Judicial review:>"The BBC had a duty to do more than simply hint at the deception it was practising on the audience. In Ghostwatch there was a deliberate attempt to cultivate a sense of menace.">"the presence in the programme of presenters familiar from children's programmes ... took some parents off-guard in deciding whether their children could continue to view."I personally agree with this one. The blonde reporter (Sarah Greene) was a kids TV presenter. I grew up watching her in the Saturday morning kids TV show Going Live. Seeing her in the show made it a lot less threatening (at the start) and way more "real">The programme has yet to be repeated in full on any UK-based television channel, following its initial broadcast. It was absolute kino looking back, but way too scary for it's time, the slot in which it aired.

>>222711006Kino. I might have to rewatch the original before Adams Curse, was kind of a confusing film.
I watched Clive Barker's "Book of Blood" (2009). It takes place in dreary, grey, depressing Edinburgh - totally apt, since it's a dreary, grey, depressing movie. It's cheap, too: Three actors, one set. Three people are sitting around in a house trying to elicit something spooky. A female professor who fucks and fondles her young male student, said male student who is the medium, and her assistant who actually does all the work monitoring cameras, picking up sound, investigating the writing on the wall etc. Pretty much nothing happens in the first hour and twenty of the film, and when it does, it does so off camera with some screaming involved. The last twenty minutes is where the actual story of the film's at.I think I already saw this film a long time ago, and I know now why I forgot all about this snoozefest. 3/10. Well made, proper actors, cinematography and set, interesting idea, but not much to go on for 1 hour and 40 minutes. This could have been a segment in an anthology or a TV show (Twilight Zone etc.).

>>222699542She was so hot in this flick.
>>222711889The Ruins is a decent little flick, and you're right it has some horrifying moments. For me it's:American Mary rapist college professor is kidnapped by medical student who he date raped. She keeps him hanging from a harness, his limbs chopped off, his dick split in half, with a feeding tube, all done with medical expertise so he'd stay alive hanging there for days. Of course this is rape revenge so it's arguably justified but still that image has stuck with me. Hellraiser, forget which one at the end where he realises he is going to repeat the same day over and over forever, unable to die The Road the cannibal house scene, where they go in the basement and the human 'cattle' are there, some of them missing limbs, all of them no doubt malnourished, unwashed, trapped in the dark awaiting the next amputation Tumbbad basically there's this giant, subterranean fleshy womb you go in to steal some gold and if this demon creature touches you before you escape, you are trapped there for all eternity, slowly rotting but unable to die Probably forgetting some other spooky scenarios.
Hello /hor/ :)
>>222711993I haven't seen American Mary but I've read about that scene before and it haunts me too. Granted I'm not a rapist so it would never happen to me but still it's a grim fate.
>Camp Miasma‘s emotional charge lives, most piercingly in the film’s tender, aching flashback sequences that follow a younger version of Billy (played beautifully byAmanda Fix) as she navigates the world of the original 1980s slasher franchise. One especially haunting moment sees young Billy accosted by a would-be love interest named Alex, who asks her upstairs; she instinctively says no, before self-correcting to a hesitant, performed yes, doing what she’s been quietly trained to do as a young woman of her time. >“That whole section of the film, without Amanda and without her portrayal of young Billy, it would just be pastiche,” Schoenbrun says. “There’s plenty of pastiche in there as well. Plenty of, like, ‘oh wow, the tropes of the horror, the slasher film in the 80s, isn’t that fun?’ And I love that stuff and I’m enjoying it. But there is this almost, like, heartbreaking short story playing out against it, where you have this character, as these final girl characters often are in the movie, the kind of the virgin who fits a little less cleanly into gender roles than everyone else.”>“There’s almost this cruel ritual that’s being enacted, that everyone else kind of effortlessly understands the rules to. She’s a little bit on the outside, but she knows just enough to know the scripts of what she’s supposed to say and what she’s supposed to do. It’s almost like the movie is pushing her against her will a little bit towards these things,” they continue. “But at the same time, she’s still a person with her own inner desire to figure herself out. Queer is the word for it. She’s alienated within the tropes of the culture and the genre, and just, like, lamb to the slaughter in a lot of ways as I think a lot of young queer people are, both in those films and in real life.”
>>222711676sexy crazy eyesI shouldn't but...

>“Jane is just a dream director to work with,” she says. “Working with a writer-director is so special too, because you know that passion is there and they have all the answers to your questions, and I think that’s just such a great collaboration, so more of that is what I look forward to.">Fix’s future is looking especially bright given her sensitive, all-in performance in Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. One key moment is a sex scene in the film-within-a-film that is dreamily layered in subtext. Without spoiling what happens, Schoenbrun’s general advice was to “let it happen, let it happen.”>“It was so nice to have all of that information, because when I got on set, I felt that it was in me, and I could let it go, and just be present in my body, so that all of those things that are happening internally can come out, and it’s not forced in any way,” Fix says.

Just got back from TS@CM.Unsurprisingly, I think people will enjoy it roughly the same as how they did I Saw The TV Glow.Pros: Hannah Einbinder has an awesome rack, really nice tits. Gillian Anderson is an effortless pro and A. Fix is certifiably cute. Some great direction.Cons: It's meta, but almost disappointingly not meta enough. I thought it could have gone further. A lot of people will think it disappears up it's own ass and it meanders around the same asexual troony moping as TV Glow did without coming to much of a point.
Give me masterpiece Giallo to watch with friend that's not Deep Red or Don't Look Now.

>>222698999New pic from the set of /ourgirl/'s next kino, Conjuring First Communion
>>222712880Ironic, given what the film is about, that it has an unsatisfying climax. I thought the actual story was a lot weaker than TV Glow. There's no conflict in this one at all.>>222712230Are they seriously suggesting that the actual "Camp Miasma" film featured Billy having actual sex in it? That seems ridiculous. It's things like that and the CGI blood that took me out of the film within a film.
>>222713322Forgot pic.Are we excited Fixbro?
>>222713327Lel, truth. Something else I thought is that unlike TV Glow, the real meta of this film is you can't escape the fact Schoenbrun is trans. It's just a cacophony of their own creation, and if she wants it that way then I can't help focus on the fact it's a former dude making a film about cis lesbians as if he was one. I'm pretty sure wish casting Gillian Anderson in a lesbian scene is as straight cis male as it gets.
>>222713338Very much Fixbro! Judging by the movies displayed it is 1943 and thus its likely the scene where Lorraine meets Ed for the first time as this happened irl while he was working at the movie theatre that year.
>Exhuma filmmaker Jang Jae-hyun has lined up his next horror movie, Vampir, and it is set to star Yoo Ah-in>ScreenDaily reports that Vampir is going into production this month, with a target release of 2028.>Yoo Ah-in leads the cast as “a contract killer who tracks down a mysterious pagan group at the request of a clergyman.“
>>222713165thanks for the rec. How does The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh stack up? I watched Your Vice is a Locked room from the same director and it wasn't anything special.
>>222713458Is Amanda Fix in it?
>>222713468Haven't seen it, though since it also stars Edwige there's at least one reason to watch it.
>>222713421I don't like to dwell on it, but like you say, I couldn't help but imagine the response to this film if a current dude made a film about a dude director meeting the star of their favourite horror film who instantly becomes dedicated to fulfilling their sexual needs.

>>222712618>>222713575it's 'bath time' but that was a body double. it's a pretty standard if not typically macarena-ly psychotic sex scene otherwise.

>>222713809fuck off troon
>>222713809She doesn't have what it takes to direct a NOES, they should have given that to Scott Derrickson
>>222713809They would do an infinitely better job than Lee Cronin, who I also heard suggested. As long as they remember to make it entertaining.
>>222713852Cronin is a decent director, just not the right person to write it. Though I heard they wanted a shot for shot remake of the original.

>>222711646just read the books
>>222715193You need to watch all adaptations to achieve a 100% completion run
>>222715193The film has nothing to do with the short story. Even though the film is titled "Dagon", it is inspired by the story "The Shadow over Innsmouth".
>>222715560>it is inspired by the story "The Shadow over Innsmouth"Should I read that before watching the movie?
>>222715535>>222715193just play DCotE last
>>222715633I don't know. I haven't seen the movie. I have read and re-read all of Lovecraft's stories, though. I lost some of the books when moving three times, but I do also have them as E-Books.There are a lot of movies that try to adapt Lovecraft's ideas, though most of them fall short. Lovecraft's stories aren't particularly suited to be photographed, because he plays with "indescribable horror" a lot. There's an appreciation society that has turned "The Call of Cthulhu" and "The Whisperer in Darkness" into low budget modern black and white silent movies that are very close to the original story. They weren't bad, also they're not very long, you can watch both in the time it takes to watch a full-length feature film.
>>222715633>>222715193Actually never mind. I was mixing up Dagon and Shadow over Innsmouth. Already read the former but still need to finish the latter.

I watched "The Woods" (2006). It's a slow burn folk horror movie, comfy watch, not too scary or gross. Heather starts a fire that almost burns down her house with her parents in it, so she gets shipped off to a boarding school for young girls in the woods, and there's witchcraft afoot. It's the 1960s, so no co-ed, just young girls and elderly female teachers in a very remote location. Oh, and Bruce Campbell is in it for a bit, he plays Heather's father.5/10, solid film with really good sets and actors, a bit too tame for my taste, but as I said a comfy watch.
